Transatlantic Night Slugs cohorts Fade To Mind has just released an EP from juke expert Dave Quam’s Massacooramaan alias, and they’re giving away Nguzunguzu’s remix of “Dead Long Time” to mark the occasion.
Taking in elements of juke, dancehall and other unidentifiable strains of dance music, Massacooramaan’s debut is difficult enough to describe in its original form, but in the hands of Los Angeles duo Nguzunguzu his material becomes even more abstract, recomposing the original (which can be previewed below) into a sparse, bristling creation that pushes the more melodic elements right into the background.
