Scuba, Blawan, Barker & Baumecker and more will be playing Fabric on February 2, and we have tickets to the night and a clutch of Scuba gear to give away.
Ostgut Ton have announced a forthcoming EP featuring remixes of material from Barker & Baumecker’s excellent debut album Transsektoral, with Blawan and Machinedrum among the artists involved.
The task of whittling down our shortlist of favourite albums this year felt more arduous than ever; the past 12 months have seen a glut of formidable long players released, and the strength of this list is reflected by those LPs that didn’t make the cut. Our final selections were based a few important questions, most pertinently, ‘had we heard anything like this before?’ If the answer was yes, chances are it didn’t make it. The 20 long players showcased below are, in our opinion, utterly unique, crammed with enough ideas and flair to make them worthy of revisitation for years to come.
With an air of surprise about them, Barker & Baumecker come bowling into earshot with a potent techno formula that eschews tradition just as it ably imbibes a broad range of influences and styles. Ostgut Ton is typically recognised as a home for more delinated electronic music, not constrained to Berghain techno but generally quite singular in its outlook whatever mood it aims for – this is not the case with Barker & Baumecker.
