It’s been eight years since Brooklyn duo Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani released their eponymous album as Metro Area. Drawing on R&B, disco, boogie, house and techno, it not only stood the test of time, but is now rated as one of the finest underground dance albums of all time. After a trip to London for the Red Bull Music Academy, Morgan spoke to Juno Plus editor Aaron Coultate about Metro Area’s new “bubblegum” sound, his own solo work and the era of disposable music.
It seems Hans-Peter Lindstrøm can do no wrong. His latest album, Real Life Is No Cool, has been rapturously received by every publication from Pitchfork to the Irish Times, and the praise is wholly justified. Whether he’s knocking out a 40-minute cover of Little Drummer Boy, or crafting a superb full-length album, the man has a svelte touch that appeals to pop fans and disco beards alike. We spoke to Lindstrøm about quitting the DJ circuit, his next productions and how he almost covered Boney M.
Relish boss Headman has teamed up with Dieter Meier from legendary electronic music act Yello for his latest single.
The Swiss pair worked together on “Gimme”, which will be released this month as a single ahead of the new Headman album due out early next year.
The remix package for the release includes efforts from In Flagranti, Kango Stein Massive, Bang Gang and the Surreal Stroll (a collaboration between Headman and Daniel Wang).
