UK disco royalty Faze Action are back. For the fifteenth release on their own imprint, they’ve searched the globe for producers to remix tracks from last year’s well received album Stratus Energy. Kicking off in the tropical climes of, erm, Glasgow, The Revenge comes through with a druggy deep house refix of “I Wanna Dancer” replete with one of the best basslines Mr Clark has produced to date. This element is expanded on superbly in the accompanying dub version that bumps that little bit harder. From here, we are introduced to some rising talent from opposite ends of the globe, as Sao Paolo duo Boogie Central remix “Danae’s Journey” and treat your senses to a glistening contemporary disco classic. Vintage elements such as the hugging bassline and sweet vocal harmonies dovetail nicely with the crisp drum programming and key shimmers. Finally Muscovite TARAS 3000 engages light speed for a suitably cosmic sounding refix of “Starship”, which is built around an increasingly euphoric piano melody.

Check out Faze Action deep in the mix on the latest Juno disco podcast, with a selection that includes new cuts from Jimmy Edgar, Ilija Rudman, Hot Toddy and Severino of Horse Meat Disco.

The Faze Action boys are back again with another killer disco podcast, featuring the likes of Prins Thomas, Jacques Renault, Diskjokke and Rudy’s Midnight Machine.

Ilija Rudman, Jay Shepheard and Morgan Geist all feature in the latest Juno disco podcast, which has once again been expertly curated by Faze Action.
Since 2006 Faze Action’s eponymous label has been churning out their own productions, releasing such dance floor killers as “Hypnotic”, “I Wanna Dancer” and those remixes of the track that started it all – “Original Disco Motion”. Here comes the new slab, this time around it’s Robin manning the faders and knobs as Rudy’s Midnight Machine, following up their Reception twelve and remixes for the likes of, erm, Faze Action and Bodie Lee.
“Open To Your Love” opens with a steady bouncing groove punctuated by crisp 808 snares, stabby chords, “Your Love”-style arpeggios and stuck on repeat vocals intoning the title. It’s definitely going straight for the retro house jugular but still has enough oomph about it to appeal to young waifs as well as misty eyed rave granddads. Comes in vocal and Open to Your Dub flavors.
Flipping over, “Dib Dab” slips back a few more years for its electro dance feel, coming on like a long lost tougher dub of Shannons’ “Let the Music Play”. It’s a tune that wears its heart on its sleeve with orchestra stabs, proto garage baseline and sampled vocal chops, pretty much guaranteed to get any party moving with a cheeky smile on its face.
“Street Museum” is the most recognizably Faze-esque track, chuck in some New Order-ish synth melody lines, crunchy rocky lead and nagging rhythm guitar and a whole heap of delay on the drums and you are up and running with a disco winner.

The splendid cold wave synth industrial sludge disco imprint ThisIsNotAnExit Recordings will release a summer sampler later this month and have announced details of an interesting project to see it released as a highly limited 12″ via the Pledge Music charity iniatiative.

The late Arthur Russell is still revered in disco circles, and rightly so: he is responsible for some of the most original and inventive disco music ever made.
The cellist/composer/singer bridged the gap between New York disco and more avant garde and experimental genres, collaborating with everyone from Phillip Glass to Nicky Siano.
To honour a legend Electric Minds have released an EP containing some of Russell’s finest work, covered by today’s brightest disco talents. Faze Action call in Yam Who? to remake “In The Light Of A Miracle”, while New Yorker Pocketknife covers “Get Around To It”.
London’s electro pop upstarts My Tiger My Timing – who actually got their name from an Arthur Russell track – top it off with a lovely cover of “Arm Around You”.
