Details for this year’s annual series of Sónar events have just been announced, with a host of diverse acts appearing at its events in Spain, Japan, Brazil and South Africa.

Sonar turned 17 this year, and for a good number of people it’s an essential part of the calender. The schedule is fairly well mapped out – bask in the hazy bonhomie of Sonar By Day, conveniently located a stones throw from Las Ramblas, before allowing yourself to be pulled gently into the mayhem that is Sonar By Night. Those still standing when the sun rises over the back of the unnervingly large complex that houses the evening’s festivities can give themselves a pat on the back. All of this usually takes place in the standard Barcelona summer weather (scorchio) – oh, and at some stage you’ll probably get pickpocketed too.

As June rolls around, labels, promoters, artists, journalists and the humble festival goer all rub hands in unison with the impending arrival of the Sonar weekend. Now in its 17th year, the electronic music festival has become an established highlight of the summer season, expanding into an elongated weekend of both official and unofficial parties. With that in mind, cast your eyes below for a run down on the parties before, during and after Sonar that you might just see the Juno Plus editorial team shaking a leg at.

A host of new names were today added to the already bulging line-up for Sónar 2011, with LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy joined by the likes of Four Tet, Martyn and Lucy (pictured above).

The Sónar festival will return to US shores in September with a three day event in Chicago featuring Martyn (pictured), Oval and Jimmy Edgar.

Moodymann and Caribou are among the names set to play at the Red Bull Music Academy stage at this year’s Sónar festival.

Europe’s leading ’small-e’ electronica festival Sónar has announced the bulk of its 2010 line-up, and, as expected, there’s plenty to get excited about.

The first two names for Sónar 2010 have been announced, with LCD Soundsystem and Air set to play live at Spain’s leading electronic music festival.

Tickets for the 2010 Sónar festival went on sale this week, with special earlybird prices for those who book before January 31.

Sónar – one of the world’s leading electronic music festivals – will branch out from its Barcelona home next year.
The 2010 festival will be take place simultaneously in Barcelona and A Coruña, the first time in its history that it has been held in two locations.
The A Coruña event, dubbed Sónar Galicia, will have a Sónar by Day with a music line-up, and a multimedia and audiovisual area with a special emphasis on Galician artists. The Sónar by Night stages will feature the latest leading lights in electronica.
The image of Sónar 2010 – to be held June 17-19 – will be “a journey to the end of the world along the Way of St. James”.
The image is associated with Galicia and takes the form of a full-length film. The film is entitled ‘Finisterre’, and includes six chapters and an epilogue. It looks at the introspective journey undertaken by two ghosts who during Sónar 2009 decided to travel along the Way of Saint James to the end of the world. Once they arrive, they begin a fleeting new period on earth.
