Gareth Emery should need little introduction. The Southampton-born but now L.A.-based producer and former Five AM Recordings boss has been one of the leading lights on the progressive trance scene for the best part of a decade. Here he delivers his third studio album, the decidedly bright-eyed Drive. Full of surging trance rhythms, bold riffs, comforting pads and impassioned vocals, it's as musically rich and thrillingly uplifting as you'd expect. Highlights are plentiful, from the near-Balearic rush of "Javelin" and woozy "Million Years" (complete with epic build-up and luscious vocals), to the picturesque "Firebird" and drifting "Long Way Home", whose sweet melodies and swirling pads offer a breathlessly beautiful finale.
