Review:
Chris Clark's sixth album for Warp sees him favour a distinctly pastoral approach. Tracks like "Henderson Wrench" and "Ghosted" are breathless folksy affairs, powered by acoustic guitar strumming and in the case of "Ghosted", a haunting vocal. On other occasions, Clark opts for a sweeter style as saccharine synths and mid tempo, unquantized beats vie for the listener's attention. The same kind of quirky playfulness is audible on the humming bass and break beats of "Open" or "Tooth Moves", where live drums underpin a synth that emits waspish tones. But Clark also has a reflective side and the album's highlights occur when he delivers the beautifully contemplative piano compositions "Black Stone" and the widescreen ambience of "Broken Kite Footage".
