Review:
DJ Schwa hails from Sydney, but his geographical location doesn't preclude him from being plugged in to contemporary house. For the most part, this compilation focuses on disco-influenced tracks, including the funk bassline and sample-heavy "Safety Ghetto" from Murat Kilic and the building chords and shuffling tribal beats of the Pezzner remix of Trinity & Beyond 's "Near & Far". However, the real highlights occur when Schwa steps outside this comfort zone. The ponderous vocals and sensuous hooks of Hallow from David Garcet & K Hocini is reminiscent of classic deep house, but even it can't compare to the clipped US garage beats, sensuous chords and doubled up claps of "High On Music" by Deep Bros.
