Review:
Along with the leading production lights of Montreal such as Jacques Greene and (half of) LOL BOYS, the blossoming musical scene in Toronto only serves to show how far the reach of sounds such as UK Funky has spread across the Atlantic. Meati is the latest producer to step forth from the Canadian East Coast city with the Air Jamaica EP for the Get Flavour imprint. The title track is a stripped down affair employs typically boisterous carnival elements atop a dub skank, and is presented in whole new lights on the accompanying loud, techy abrasion of John Roman's remix and Bosstone's blissed out crunk effort. Meati's other production "Skinnydip" ploughs similar territory, splaying scattergun samples of vocal encouragement over a stripped down rhythm embellished by plentiful air horns.
