Review:
Having brought us such singles as "The City" not so long ago, Author - the collaborative project between Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin - reaches a climax with the release of this self-titled LP on Pinch's Tectonic Recordings. An eight-track venture into dubstep's unchartered quarters, opening track "Turn" feat. Ed Thomas pairs sonorous vocals with a hypnotic soundscape, and draws us in to other tracks such as the deeply beautiful "Green & Blue" feat. Ben Glass and "Dashiki", which recalls the pattering percussion of label boss Pinch's "Qawaali" or "The Boxer". Elsewhere there's the thunderous "Mothership" with its punishing subs and pelting drums, as well as the soothing, sultry rhythms of grand finale "Drain". Superb.
