Review:
As one of those artists that gets forgotten amidst the hype of his fellow Detroit brethren, Reggie Dokes has been doggedly doing his thang for well over a decade now. His approach is heavy on the rough sampling and fractured groove, but imbued with a heavy sense of soul. "Child Of The Sun" is a thoroughly jacking romp that wrestles with an oddball synth, stark flecks of piano and plastic strings while the beat hammers away incessantly. "Funk Below" focuses more heavily on the piano while rolling out in a similarly stilted fashion that builds to a more symphonic crescendo of melodies.
