Review:
Dutch producer Bas Mooy is one of the finest proponents of dark, bassy techno. However, on Darknet 03, the remixers appear to overshadow the muscular beats and screeching, titanium-plated riffs of the original version of "Krull". Audio Injection's interpretation is a rolling, filtered affair, its walking funk bass providing the perfect counterpoint to the insistent, Klock-style percussion. Veteran techno DJ Gayle San and DJ Hi Shock go a few steps further, with the grungy bassline and intense riffing of their version sounding like iron bars being bashed against a concrete wall. Finally, Ortin Cam turns in a wiry, creaking analogue techno version that sounds like Dan Bell on angel dust trying to replicate Suburban Knight's darkest, most droning basslines.
