Review:
The alias of producer Pierce Vaughn, the Blue Monk's debut album is a treat for fans of sample-mangling cut 'n' paste nu-jazz and midtempo funky thrills. Songs like the excellent downbeat disco swoon of "Secrets" or the soulful trip-hop of "Butterflies" make this an entertainingly varied and surprising album - one that even has room for straight-up jazz treats like the ethno-swing of "Jazz In The Jungle" or slow bossa nova moments like "Cast Away".
