Review:
German producer Oliver Klein's ability to make credible mainstream dance music is well documented, but on Gallery, his debut album, he effortlessly displays his underground credentials. "Hey Baby", "Century 22" and "Suspenders" provide a masterclass in crafting sassy DJ grooves, built on fat basslines, irresistible filtered builds and insistent stabs. Gallery also allows Klein to showcase a harder approach: the snaking bass and dense rhythms of "Gran Torino" harks back to late 90s loopy techno, "Straight To The Point" is a high-octane minimal affair that climaxes to the sound of white noise whooshes, and "Cougar" sees Klein drop his own interpretation of Resse hardcore techno.
