Review:
Mikael Nordgren has always gone down the less travelled road, and this is apparent on his latest Tiger Stripes release, Glorified. Featuring raw, loopy beats fused with a surging, walking bass, the combination sounds close to incompatible, but Nordgren's deft arranging makes it work. By adding clipped drums and a tripped out vocal talking about 'glorifying' an unspecified individual, the busy elements sound perfectly ordered and placed. Rodriguez Jnr opts for a different tact with his version: starting with loose break beats and a swampy bass, he builds a woozy, out there mood by swathing the arrangement in dense chords.
