Review:
The alter-ego of Rhythm Maker/Antonelli producer Stefan Schwander, Harmonious Theolonious has graced fans of alternative techno with a handful of these gems previously as 12'' releases, but "Listen" marks the second album proper from this much underrated project. Chiming Afro-pop is the basis behind much here - including the deceptively simple "Argwohnische Muziek" and the poly-rhythmic trance of "Trans-Harmonic System". Elsewhere, the influence of Steve Reich shines through, notably on the incredible "Profaner Tanz" which not only mirrors the NYC composers choice of instrumentation (mallets and percussion) but also his creeping minimalist arrangements that unfurl and unravel in a giddy and hypnotic stupor. A remarkable release and a hugely recommended listen.
