Review:
Bocca Grande is a musical collaboration between Tokyo artists Kousuke Ishida and Yuka Kobayashi. Ishida has a long history with electronic music, producing since the age of 16, while Kobayashi is a classically trained pianist. As you would expect, this collaboration, previously explored on the Cray And Pinky single in 2008 bears some rich fruit, flitting between the bumping house of opener "Abend" to the downtempo hip-hop of "Below My Hands" and dusky slo-mo grooves of "Even If". It's undoubtedly Kobayashi's piano playing that steals the show however, with his upwardly spiraling melodies on "Slow Gravity", improvisational keywork on "Room In A Clutter" and jazzy tones of closer "As Adele" all contributing to what is a one-of-a-kind album.
