Review:

It would be fair to say that Tokyo's Masanori Ikeda has been around the bock a few times. He snagged his first DJ residency in the early '90s, and made his production debut on legendary Japanese deep house label Flower Records back in 2007. Here he pops up on Hong Kong's fast-rising Palms & Charms imprint with the epic "Afro-Tipsy", a simple but effective fusion of Tangerine Dream style cyclical synthesizer motifs and rolling, African-influenced percussion that builds brilliantly over its' 10-minute duration. Claremont 56 regulars Almunia provide the (virtual) flipside remix, layering up their own delay-laden guitars and beats before introducing Ikeda's eyes-closed synthesizer refrains. The result is not only brilliantly, but wholeheartedly Balearic in outlook.
