Review:
While Teengirl Fantasy would have to dig deep to top the musical brilliance of "Cheaters", you get the feeling that Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss aren't looking to replicate their 2010 epic paean to Chicago House. Instead Tracer, their forthcoming album for R&S Records, looks like giving them the platform to fill the expanses around traditional rhythmic structures with their undeniable sense of textural colour. That much is evident from the two tracks on Motif, a single that precedes next month's album, with the title track a particularly crystalline production that spirals delightfully through various off kilter moments of 4/4 incandescence, augmented by some excellent instrumental flourishes. "Eternal" initially seems more rigid in structure, as if there's some kind of force vainly attempting to hold back the inevitable onslaught of synth led detail. How to make an excellent release better? Get Actress to deliver a blunted, thick set techno remix of the title track that like many other remixes from the Werk man is totally removed from its origins.
