Black Dice are back with their fifth album proper. It's three years since we last heard from the Brooklynites, and in that time they've gotten no saner. With a predilection for absurdity in noise, there's something joyously cartoony about the splattering funk of a track like "The Jacker" that calls to mind classic Butthole Surfers minus the grunge. At times you'll hear a groove forming out of the jerky chaos, but it's not the best way to start listening to Black Dice. It's music for an acquired taste that seeks out the ridiculous, but if you feel the need for something silly in your ears then this could be just the ticket.
