If only more producers took a leaf from Tomas Hartl's techno manual. Working as Elektrabel, he has only put out a handful of releases over the past decade, but a number of them were issued on Jeff Mills's 6277 imprint. One draws on classic techno narratives, but does so with aplomb: "Moon" is a tweaked, bleepy take on minimalism, similar to the Ausgang releases on Synewave, while the title track is slower but more moody, as rasping percussion and growling acid lines make for an intoxicating combination. Finally, "P800" ploughs an eerie furrow, where ice cool chords and firing percussive bursts are set to linear rhythmic pulses.
