Review:
Like Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano, Guti brings Latin American musical influences to bear on his music. Unlike these minimal techno kingpins however, Guti's album doesn't just sample sources. "Una Tarde Con Pedro" and "Al Viento" are mournful piano-led workouts and "My Whole Thing" combines a seductive female vocal with infectious Latino drums. Indeed, while Patio De Juegos does have a dancefloor sensibility, its most rewarding moments occur when Latino influences feature. "Still Here" is a beautifully melancholic, understated groove, "Shame" is underscored by shaking percussion and a snaking bassline and Guti uses infectious piano keys and a sassy rhythm to devastating effect on "All The Girls".
