Review:
Combining a baroque pop sensibility with African percussion, Francois and the Atlas Mountains are Domino's first ever French signings, and this remix package sees of quartet of equally intriguing talent rework "Piscine" into a variety of weird and wonderful shapes. Odei's remix sees the three piece band take snippets of the vocals and create an improvisational live drum and synth jam around it, filled with bubbling acid and sepia tones which recall Caribou's analogue take on techno. Electro-pop duo Jensen Sportag create a melodic version whose rigid but lively drum programming and 80s melodies recall Junior Boys' early work, while Outer Limits Recordings transforms the original into what sounds like Ariel Pink creating warehouse techno, with piano drenched in reverb and a huge rising bassline sitting beneath. Finally, French hardware wizard Etienne Jaumet turns in a typically tense version, with horror movie strings and a looping piano that recall his work as one half of Zombie Zombie.
