Retrospekt's last outing for Bristol-based digital imprint Slime, "Rolling" was something of an unconfined floorfiller. "Popularity" flips the script, allowing the little-known producer to indulge his deeper side. He does this well, combining woozy chords and post-garage grooves with the head-nodding pulse of contemporary deep house and a smattering of ear-pleasing touches. The slower "Get It" is, if anything, even deeper, working some fuzzy nu-disco melodies and sparkling chords over a chugging groove. Like its predecessor, it gets just the right balance between comfy home listening fare and dancefloor-friendly shuffle.
