DETROIT GRAND PUBAHS - Sandwiches (Front Cover)
Review:
The rude electro-funk of "Sandwiches" introduced the Pubahs to the wider dance world over a decade ago. What will these remixes achieve? With UK veteran Ben Sims at the controls, the answer is simple - they give "Sandwiches" a new, techno-focused lease of life. The main Sims remix is a rolling, jarring riff-heavy affair and not dissimilar to the sound that he plays in his sets. However there is more to Sims than just pumping techno and the "Acid" remix sees him combine the rude narrative with gurgling 303s, while the "Killa Productions '91 Revival" version opts for a radically different tact. Using the same jarring riffs as the main remix, its slamming break beats bring the listener back to the crazy days of early 90s hardcore.
