Review:
French imprint, Record Makers release a remix album of Sebastien Tellier's Sexuality long player of two years ago. Comprising of sixteen remixes, the album features the likes of A-Trax, Boys Noize, Moulinex and Breakbot.
Tellier?s album has received much critical acclaim over the last two years and refused to lay low yet, still receiving attention across the globe. This is due in no small part to the fact that so many different producers, also caught up in the album, decided to make their own remixes of the tracks off it. Now, Parisians Record Makers have decided to release a selection of them as an entire remix album.
Fellow Frenchman, Sebastian opens the release with one of the record's biggest highlights. His rework of "Sexual Sportwear" showcases the futuristic electro yet classic sound that he does so well. Aeroplane take things back to 1984 Italy with their disco influenced interpretation of "Kilometer" before label mate Kavinsky applies his sensual touch to "Roche." Boys Noize take their uber European, trance-like sound complete with killer breakdowns to "L'Amour the Violence" and A-Trax provide another remix of "Kilometer." Doing no less than expected, they turn the track into a funky and soulful trip to New York?s disco clubs of the 70s. Other highlights include Arpanet's dark and brooding mix, Floating Points? dubstep injection and Kasper Winding?s slow and contended jaunt along "Elle." Breakbot, Donovan, Moulinex and Midnight Juggernauts also make worthy additions in an album that covers varying styles and genres whilst keeping the original effort close by.
As the legacy of his Sexuality album continues to pile forward, Sebastien Tellier will be no doubt pleased to see that his music has inspired a plethora of producers to work their own sound around it. The remixing artists, in turn, will be buoyed to see that their reworks have been valued as tracks in their own right
