Review:
Like many producers of slo-mo disco edits and sample-heavy concoctions, Hotbox has decided to move on and start producing his own music from scratch. If this EP for Newcastle-based digital imprint Audio Parallax is anything to go by, it's a good move. Denver-based Hotbox grew up in San Francisco, and the city's lounge-friendly deep house sound is a definite influence on the three original slow and midtempo groovers showcased here. Both "Paradise" and "Simmering Nights" boast a warm, sultry grooviness and fluid deepness that belies their rigid beat structure. The darting vintage synths and rumbling low-end heaviness of the Stuck At Sea remix of "Simmering Nights" is pretty tasty, too.
