Review:
A really well chosen selection by Parisian Dj Michael Canitrot who concentrates on French house beats and female vocals on this mix for Defected. The unmixed tracks available really are some of the most feted and hottest tunes working dancefloors right now.
The twee and pared-down Sound of Love by Husky Rescue is brilliantly followed up by Simian Mobile Disco's collaboration with Beth Ditto, Cruel Intentions. Another powerful vocal comes courtesy of Candi Staton, on the recent hook-up with Rasmus Faber, Wilder Side. David Tort's mix of Barbara Tucker's I Get Lifted also uses a female vocal to great effect, bringing the vocals in on a build-up with strings rising to match it in the background. Possibly one of the most anthemic female vocals of the decade - in Dennis Ferrer's Hey Hey - also gets a look in on the mix.
Other bonafide modern anthems feature here, like Daft Punk's Thomas Banglater taking apart Dj Mehdi's Signature (heavily sampled from Dynasty's Strokin') - a remix that has virtually obscured Mehdi's original such is it's popularity. Some more songs that have been making a splash in recent months, such as Tensnake's funk-filled Get It Right and Breakbot's blue-eyed soul tribute Baby I'm Yours also make the cut, making this a really valuable collection of 28 essential tunes, bagged up and ready to be enjoyed.
