Review:
We've become accustomed to Matthew Kyle's In The Woods label offering up hypnotic, sumptuous fare, but so far it's largely been of the disco/soul/slo-mo house variety. This EP from Domes flips the script, offering a higher level of musicality, some smooth jazz-funk flavours and house beats that are subtle rather than needlessly heavy. Opener "This Time" is the real killer, all cosmic jazz keys, rubbery bass and sparkling, crystal clear FX. The Homeboy & Pytzek remix continues on a similar theme, re-casting the original as a joyously dubbed-out slice of nu-Balearic goodness. There's also some slo-mo soul freakery in the shape of bonus cuts "Former State" and "Over & Over".
