O DE LANZAC - Uncut (Front Cover)
Review:
Olivia De Lanzac is one international hipster (Born in the Congo, raised in Greece, based in London, releases on New York's DFA). This new mini-album, "Uncut" on soul/funk/hip-hop label BBE is one stoned classic. "Sketches Of Blue" begins with found samples and an anxious 70s cop film vibe, with it's low and dirty bass, "Get Free" sounds more like the kind of music found in a 70s skin flick and, with it's funk drum and vocal samples and intense bass, "Uncut" almost sounds like late 80s hip-hop a la NWA. Elsewhere we find mega-stoned dub "Gasoline Rainbow", 60s jet set disco, "Maani", arty noise "Thaeneb" and the surprisingly upbeat pop-funk of "Pyrexia".
