Review: If there's any tune that can truly say I'll be back it's Hizzleguy's screech-funk stepper "Terminator". Released in January, it has returned in both VIP and remix form... And the results are even more hair-raising. The former is pure mimetic poly-alloy T-1000 with its stretched out bass textures and unnerving sense of danger while the latter (courtesy of Nu Elementz) will take your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle with its added grizzly bass tones and looser sense of funk. Terminated.

Review: What an absolute treat from the F2 stable this is! The courageous label has taken it upon itself to keep releasing puristic garage in an era where genres are bbeing blurred like Saturday night cocktails, and it really is a great thing to have someone carrying on the UK's seminal tradition along the hardcore continuum. This is the first volume of their F2 comps, and features a whol load of break-ready, gun-toting individuals wishing to inject some class into modern house. Inside, you'll find some absolute bangers for peeps like Champion, Tuff Culture, Deadbeat - who comes through with some twisted two-step - and Pharaoh K, among the many fresh faces on here. SICK!

Review: It's been a few years since Ulterior Motive last delivered original material on Headz but these two ageless designs more than make up for lost time. "Step Change" is the assassin of the two: one click head shot business, this is a run for cover brock out with all the grit and aggression we need in these dark, paranoid times. "Get Close", meanwhile, proceeds to soften our edges. An unnerving, droning stepper that's restrained, but gradually built with measured menace, it's quintessential Ulterior Motive.

Review: His first substantial body of work since his agenda-setting debut album on DJ Hybrid's other label Audio Addict, Kumarachi jumps over to Deep In The Jungle with four bundles of absolute breakbeat bliss. "45" sets the scene with bashy amen cuts, a smoky ragga sample and basslines so rude you'll need new trousers. "Move Up Your Body" continues the lewd factor thanks to its Blackmarket-style bassline that rumbles with ankle-slapping lowness while "Buss It Up" plays the consummate end boss with its rough and rusty amen slaps and punches. "So Listen" closes the show with even nuttier drums, this time on more of a Dread bass timestretched flex. Impeccable and true to the craft.

Review: Unstoppable dark vibe maestro Joe Moses returns to V with five more of his signature understated, scene-uniting constructions. "Dimmer" plays the lead role thanks to its Krust-style drum savagery and ultimate groan bass riff. Highlight b2b highlight b2b highlight follows as the whole EP hits the kill switch.... The rolling Symmetry minimalism of "Kids", the creepiness and subtleties of "Suction" and the unabashed croaks and toxicity of "So Below" are just a few of the standout, hair-raising dynamics at play here. Essential.

Review: The mighty Maji takes the controls at his own Sweet Tooth imprint with four peaktime bumpers. Longstanding singer Jessica Luck features twice on the super-hooky "Pressure" and the creepier, sultrier "Dangerous". Elsewhere we have two straight-up slayers: the soaring samurai bass of "Back Up" and the glitch-tripped data spiked bass of "Guillotine". Massive.

Review: South coast soldier Vital makes his debut on the turbo-charged young label Bulletproof who are already 17 releases deep after seven months of ops! Living up to his name once again, each cut tickles a different corner of D&B's dark underbelly: "Skank Out" is plain lethal with its MC sample, open-hand slap bassline, loose drums and iced textures, "Bossman" fuses a little jungle magic and soundsystem samples with a nagging bouncing riff while "Murder" goes in for the kill with its lower, grumbling bass hook that refuses to quit. Finally "Walking Dead" adds a little mischief as a carnival bassline sizzles and pings its way around a swaggering, mildly skanked two-step. Vital by name....

Review: Remix time... Sub-Liminal look back over the last few years of releases, pick some of their many great rolling moments and get the artists to remix swap. It's gully grooves from the off as Hybrid adds a much darker dynamic to "Super Bad" and breaks up the reggae sample while Too Greezey injects serious drum muscle and switches out Hybrid's signature junglized basslines on "Kung Fu Master". Leaf follows with a darkened, clipped and steppy twist of Agro & Too Greezey's dubwise "Don't Mek Me Get Dark" and finally Agro smooths out the angular attitude of Leaf's "New Life" with a lower swung, funkier perspective. Great concept, killer versions.

Review: Funky jump-up is the order of the day as Bou and Dispoze collide for the first time on Smoke Signal Audio. Sparking up with a light bossa-style synth pattern and sparse string twangs, we're then blasted off a devilishly cheeky bassline that's straight from the Kartoons playbook. Simple but deadly and fractured by rattling drum fills, this will work in pretty much every double drop scenario imaginable.

Review: Belgium meets UK: Bass Boost's Basstripper makes his debut on Propz & Rowney's ever-shreddy G13 and he's really not messing around. Covering all shades across both sides of the scene he treats us to spiked-out high pitch paranoid riffage on "Safehouse", classic fuzzy bass hookiness on "Fur Dich", weirded-out robot-funk on "Level 1" and ridiculous harmonic switches on "No Laughing". Like we said... There's no room for messing around here. Crucial.

Review: Fast becoming one of Natty Dub's finest success stories, Jaxx returns with a job lot of sweet sweet rolling gully. There's a sexy simplicity and minimal sense of mischief throughout; "Don't Push It" purrs, "Herbs" twangs, "Take A Walk" groans while "Search Party" jitters and teases. Lean, to-the-point and straight-up funky, this is what properly classically trained drum & bass is all about. Welcome to the asylum.

Review: Scalpel-wielding rework merchant Brother J last appeared on Superbreak way back in 2012. While that was part of a multi-artist extravaganza, this is a solo EP packed to the rafters with club-ready rearrangements. He begins with a fine pair of disco dubs, first adding a rolling vibe to the rubbery and attractive "Round Corners" before doffing a cap to Afro-disco on the horn-heavy goodness of "International". Elsewhere, be sure to check out the spiraling horn lines and extra-compressed bass of disco-funk number "Journey", the sharp horns, dense percussion and filter tricks of "Body Bait" (a track previously re-edited by the Unabombers some years back) and the glassy-eyed heaviness of "Soul Power".

Review: Feel the "Wrath" of the legendary drumfunk innovators Nucleus and Paradox! 20 years after their first partnerships on Reinforced, the pair continue to push sonic time and space in directions it's not supposed to go. "Wrath" is the perfect example of restraint as a series of devilish textures and basses worm and writhe their way around a loose, almost jazzy two-step but never overcrowd or overtake. Next up: a samurai-sharp update on their 2005 Headz classic "Aragon" where a new arrangement and a higher definition of cause a spike of the senses in the true iced out style that both Nucleus, Paradox and Headz have championed since day one.

Review: Paradox & Nucleus - surely one of the most consistent and innovative partnerships in drum & bass history - return to Headz with two time-spanning/stretching/defying EPs that dig deep into their history while staring into the future. Mako takes the lead with an update on their 2005 cosmic b-boy cut "Twelve Bits" with more emphasis and rolls on the breaks. It's backed by a fresh original from the main men themselves; a crisp stepper with droning pads and a purring low end that really comes into its own on big systems. Absolutely no messing around here at all. But did you expect anything less?

Review: Opolopo barely puts a foot wrong, so it's little surprise to find that this collection of Bits N Bobs is really rather good. Highlights include the sparkling, jazz funk-goes-deep house swing of "Put Your Cap On", the P-funk bass and squiggly D-Train synths of "Spray Tan" and the swirling, life-affirming disco-house bump of "Stroke My Disco", where cut-glass string loops and crunchy Clavinet lines ride a relentless groove. Elsewhere, he further enhances his disco/house fusion credentials via the intricately produced, musically expansive warmth of "The Lakedown Stomp", before rounding things off via the bubbly Dam Funk synth solos, Chez Damier chords and snare-heavy drums of jammed-out highlight "Eventide".

Review: At the beginning of June 2017, Session Victim will release their third album, Listen To Your Heart. This taster EP - the first of a series of digital releases containing cuts from the set - offers a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come. Predictably, there's plenty to set the pulse racing, from the cowbells and timbales-laden deep house blues of opener "Bring It Back" to the drowsy, pitched-down dreaminess of closer "The Hatch", a colourful and atmospheric chunk of Balearic electronica. Sandwiched in between you'll find the EP's standout moment, the Afro-house meets synth-disco gem "If We Can Make It Here", and the dusty, head-in-the-clouds deep house shuffler "Moons & Flowers".

Review: This one's been on the slow roast. Juss B's spacious, spellbinding sound has always hinted at an album excursion and, from the moment the title track's cosmic synths take you to the stars you know he hasn't disappointed. Highlights at every corner: the physical, sub-aquatic trap elements of "Dime", the devil vocals and ghetto diesel of "Hater Blockers", the seasick riff trippiness of "Grand Hustle", the glock-knocking barbed wave weaver "Starry Eyes"... The list goes on. Juss B is in his sonic element right here.

Review: The big, bad Dillinja is back with some of his original vibes, and this is nothing but good news to those who've been feeling a little crestfallen with the current trends in d&b. This man deserves no introductions, but we feel compelled to say that he's been a leading figure in the jungle scene since the mid 90s, and his 'Valve' sound has constantly redefined and expanded the boundaries of the genre. The artist's amorphous sounds land on Dom & Roland's own label, another legendary drum and bass duo whose sound has equally kept on testing the scene, and "End Of Line" feels like a return to what Dillinja has always done best - a rickshaw of metallic breaks fuses ever so well to a mighty wall of bass with that inimitable crunch sound. It's a total chest-burster of a tune. "Acid Roller", as the name implies, proceeds to launch a devastating attack of break bundles over an evil, dubby concoction of sub-tones and short bursts of beats. Deadly.

Review: Serious business right here from Liquid: Addiction played a huge role in liquid's earliest chapters with releases on Fabio's genre-coining Creative Source imprint alongside Carlito with records the likes of Technimatic and Lenzman have cited as key inspirations. Here he returns to the game with the consistently on-it Villem who has done no wrong on Headz, Spearhead, Dispatch and Utopia. It's a match made in heaven; classy but weighted, timeless yet rooted in the foundations... "Make Me Feel Fine" is a Planet V era style jazzy bassline bumper while "Someone Somebody" is a roomier soul shake-down. Naturally both kill it. Tip.

Review: Netherlands meets Belgium: Nymfo & Phase crash into each head-on with insanely beautiful results. If the swooning synths on the breakdown of "Bristol Bombay" don't turn you into a massive goosebump then you need your senses rewired. Likewise, "Duvel" guarantees wasp-chewing bass faces of the ugliest order with its pranged out mentasms, "Beautiful Suicide" hammers with such weight and pressure it could crush tungsten and "Bulldog" wraps up the session with a heads-down fuzzy groove that's restrained-yet-raw in classic Dispatch style.

Review: A couple of years back, Rafael Top Secret - a selector known for digging deep for inspiration - delivered a tidy re-edit of "Sekele I Like It", a previously little-known Afro-boogie cut by French artist Robert "Bobby" Helms. Copies of the 1980 album it came from, Lay Down, Girl, now go for serious money, prompting this licensed reissue. Helms' brilliant, horn-totin' original is accompanied by another cut from that album, "Feet On The Ground" - a straight-up disco affair - and two new remixes. Baptman and Betino's "Philly Vibe" mix of "Sekele I Like" is a largely instrumental interpretation that includes some killer electric piano solos, with Vas Moody's "Feet On The Ground" remix taking that track in a tightly-wound dub disco direction.

"Monkey Bars" trundles along evoking memories of vintage Go-Go, hip-hop and swing, "Back N Forth (feat Imagine This)" shows of his turntablists skills in fine style, "Dustin' Diamond" on the other hand, shows off his disco and funk influences and "Infamous" is a tough party breaks jam that will fill the floor at any self respecting house party.

Broken and broad is the theme as we glide and slide amid the big roomy spaces in his style... "Riddler" is a minimal dark garage affair, "Santi" jacks with house groove insistency, "We Come Too" oozes outer planetary emotion with its dreamy breakdown while "Give Yourself" and "After Eight" are brilliant pieces of classic restrained speed garage a la Serious Danger circa 97. Review: Two Mind make their Young Guns Recordings debut with their most comprehensive and uncompromising collection to date. Serious range versatility is at play here; "Help Me Daddy" is a 96 roller with silky sexy sub-bass while "Cop Killer" is the steppiest, stabbiest snare-basher the St Petersburg duo have created. Between these sick, stark extremes we have the technoid rise and Advisory-style drama of "Insoient", the rubber ball bassline of "My Horror" and the spaced-out Commix-style cosmic stepper "Watching The Night". Murder never sounded so good.

Review: Spaow gets busy on High R8 once again and it's nothing but pure Belgian badness. With its militant snares, "Rasta Warrior" is less of a soldier and more of entire troop of metallic bulletproof rastas marching into the fearful unknown. "Dorador" takes a techier track with its samurai bass swathing down over the triplet-based power drums, "Jumbot Machine" has a nuclear laser bass with a half life of a million while "Enjoy Yourself" teases with a hazy sexy swoon before hurling us into android lions. Bare knuckle business.

Review: To date, Swiss quartet Alma Negra has carved a successful niche as makers of heavily percussive EP singles that look to the rhythms of Africa for inspiration. This outing for Heist Recordings draws on many similar influences, but shuffles further towards original production than their rework style back catalogue. Opener "Afrorleans" is a jaunty trip into shuffling Afro-house territory in the company of a cabal of Cajun musicians, while "Luanda Dub" is a booming, bass heavy late night trip full of swirling vocal samples and densely layered drum hits. If you are after some party-starting Afro-disco/deep house fusion of standout, then "Endless Summer" and a cracking Soulphiction remix of the same track will pushes a rubbery disco bassline to the fore to devastating effect.

Review: D&B demolition man Damage Report continues to batter down our doors on a consistent and remarkably prolific basis. Here he returns to the label he had the honour of debuting on the launch release - DeLuxe's Bass Legion. Fittingly, it's a beast of a collection... "Computer Talk" is a scratchy, angular robo-ruffneck jam, "Break Up" is a clap-happy triplet glitcher, "Disciple" strips the vibe right back to a space-aged two-step while "No No No" is pure genius in its vocal texture manipulation. Computer says yes.

Review: Hot on the heels of a fine new version of Truncate's 2014 single "7_1" comes this fresh EP of dancefloor dynamite from David Flores's best-known project. Appearing on James Ruskin's long-running Blueprint label for the very first time, Flores kicks things off with the no-nonsense techno roller that is "Terminal 5", a dark, brooding foray into pitch-black techno territory typical of the British label's output. "Process" is similarly minded but slightly more positive in outlook, with mildly foreboding electronics and a repeated vocal sample riding a rubbery techno groove. "Tribal Tool", an exercise in drum machine percussion and dense African drums, completes a rock solid package.

Review: Following CIA bossmen Total Science's remix of Phaction's "Stratos" on Fokuz last year, the two acts consummate their relationship with the Bristol-based artist's first full EP on their label. And it's arguably his most comprehensive and confidently explorative EP to date; "Should Have Known" is the sultry sunset jam of the set that would be perfect for Sun&Bass "Tonight" has a rougher breaky feel while "Signature Moves" is reminiscent of Brookes Brothers early material. The gems continue to glitter the very end as "Solar Meditation" submits our souls to deep hypnosis and "I Have You" steps out with a spellbinding double-bass rattling jazz vibe. Dope moves.

Review: Ever reliable Canadian producer Fred Everything makes his first appearance of 2017 with a selection of choice remixes of house classics for the Lazy Days label. On the A-side he's taking to Crazy P's "Like A Fool" a vocal and dub version and laying down a slick, bubbling groover that fits perfectly with the original's warm, disco-infused elements. On the flip, he takes on Roach Motel's "The Night" and makes it into a shimmering nocturnal cut peppered with impeccable synth lines and a sleazy vocal turn. By way of variety the final track sees Fred create a laid back Balearic, auto-tuned version of Franky Selector's "Wind Swept Dune".

Review: Here's the 411... Say some gangster is dissing your taste in drum & bass, just give them one of these bangers. Yes, the ever-creative (and hugely prolific) Bou has shown us that drum & bass truly has Moe limits if you're coming from the right place. Other highlights across the epic six-track spread include the necksnap breaks and death frog bass texures on "Blame It", the percussive-focussed riff on "Time & Place" and the hornets' nest bassline that buzzes murderously on "Clash". Arguably one of Bou's best EPs to date.

Review: Constantly dealing out killer versions on his Soundcloud and teasing us with dubs that seem to be lurking in the A-list forever ("Rizla" anyone?), northern powerhouse Brent Kilner delivers some serious goods on Second To None. With its MC-samples and broken glass bass riff "Shots On The Scene" is a straight up ode to bassline in all its 4x4 glory. "Wheel Up" adds a jazzier twist to the chords that tap into the original UKG foundations while "Earthquake" fuses in a little breakbeat murkery and grime energy. Shots fired.

Review: Moby on Shogun Audio... There's a sentence most of us didn't expect to see in a hurry. As with any Moby remix scenario, the shoes to fill here are huge. Naturally with Friction's mob, everyone has delivered something special that adds to the original without saying anything that isn't needed. Both Technimatic and Pola & Bryson add a sparkling, star-gazed boost to their works while Fourward turn the iconic Twin Peaks rave bomb "Go" into a concrete melting neuro thunder jam. Icy seals the deal with a twisted, broken glass halftime perspective on "Natural Blues". Respectfully next level.

Review: Starting out in the early rave scene in Boston, Soul Clap made their name through a series of house edits and became big names through notable releases such as a DJ Kicks mix alongside close NYC allies Wolf + Lamb. "Shine (This Is It)" is the first single from their self-titled second album. It features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx, an original member of the trio Labelle who's smash single "Lady Marmalade" is a timeless classic. "Shine (This Is It)" features the strength in Hendryx's vocal, which empowers spirits, moving you on the dancefloor. Midnight Magic's Morgan Wiley delivers an outstanding keyboard solo and fellow bandmate Jason Disu teams up with Kali Rodriguez and No Regular Play's Greg Paulus to form the Soul Clap horn section.

Review: Featurecast flexes hard into the crates right here: digging deep over 20 years of party breaks, he's put together the definitive journey of funk with the refreshing devil may care attitude we've come to expect. His selection excavations are here for all the benefit from... The Wiseguys's lesser-spotted jam "One For The Ladies", Lack Of Afro's horn-melting "The Outsider", Max Sedgley's sugar-sweet "Happy", Flevans' Afrofunk shake-up "12 Apostles" and Featurecast and Aldo Vanucci's 2008 hoe-down stomper "Blue Grassed Devil" are just some are just some of the floor-matured classics amid the 25 cuts on offer here. And that's before we even get to awesome mix. Don't dillydally on this one.

Darker than a lot of their previous work together, there's a heads-down, Randall roller feel to proceedings on "Conquer" while "This Style" embraced the original jungle foundation with a blunderbuss bassline and rattling amens. As the killer sample states: This is how it should be done.

Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk are proud to welcome back Marcel Lune for the release of his new LP. On this album, Lune continues to explore his fascination for melodies and composition and has created something that the label describes as "wonderfully refined and thrillingly accessible." with the young artist adding enough originality to stand out from the rest. From the soulful deepness of the title track or the funky Afrobeat style of "Thanks For Loitering", to the smooth and sexy nu-jazz broken beat of "Pinnacles": this guy has all bases covered. This is not only offering an unique twist on melodic and rhythmic house music, it also highlights Lune's growth as an artist.

Review: Manchester mandem: S-Man puts the S back in SubWoofah with a fresh original, one remix and two crucial VIPs of established bangers. "Jungle Junkie" is an open admission to the addiction many of us proudly suffer day-to-day. With its bashy scattered breaks and guttural ragga vocals, it's an instant call-to-arms and complete disclosure that you'll never find him in rehab. VIP-wise "Brain Freeze" scuffs up the euphoric dynamics of the original for something grainier and distorted while the perennial "Rava Flava" gets extra muscles in the drums. For more of a stripped back bassline-focused take on "Jungle Junkie" check his Rolling remix. Clue's in the title.
