Making the bold decision to rework a couple of much loved jungle classics, it's over to the ever-outrageous bolshy dubstep playboy Doctor P and jungle revivalists the Serial Killaz for two sterling remixes of Krome & Time's "The Licence" and "Ganja Man". First of all is Doctor P's synth soaring, exuberant take on the original, with the vocal weaving around bubbling synth belches, quirky chiptune melodies, smacking snares and a computerized vocal calling "remix". Watch for the tempo switches in the second half! Then there's the Serial Killaz remix of "Ganja Man" which brings out the original reggae flavour and mixes it in with some sharp, rattling breaks and rave-tastic bellows.
Founding fathers of jump-up skank-wise drum & bass, Vital Elements and Tera return with the official mix album we've been waiting for since their Top Cat throw down five years ago. Blazing through 50 tracks, the mix is devilishly close to their legendary clubs sets. But that's just the start as many tracks and their own special remixes are being made available for the first time; the premium positivity of 2Nice's "Uprising" the gruelling drum switches of Krome & Time's "The Licence", Ras Demo's spitfire mic-wrenching on "Fire" and the straight-up nasty of SK's "Kill Tune Time" are the tip of the highlight iceberg. Complete with a selection of DJ FX tools, Jungle Cakes and Serial Killaz have created a next level junglist package right here.
For anyone who likes their beats hard and their samples nasty, this LP is an essential purchase. Spanning the ranks of Serial Killaz themselves, Rebel MC, Run Tingz Cru, Top Cat & Tenor Fly and Tribe of Issachar as well as some very special guests, this is a hard dance treat for anybody with fire in their shoes. Those in the know will already expect blazing jump up stylings from the Serial Killaz crew but that's only the start of it. From beginning to end there's no let up - you step hard, or you go home. The choice is yours.
Doctor P and Flux Pavilion hand over the selection duties to familiar label faces Funtcase and Cookie Monsta for the second Circus set. A 25-strong banger compendium balanced between classics and exclusives, it oozes the perfect blend of bare-faced bass attitude and tongue-in-cheek humour. From Roksonix string-soaked jig jamboree "Music In Me" to Brown & Gammon's emotional audio rainbow "Dark Matter", the Circus sound is represented at its boldest, most characterful and, above all, fun. Not a dull moment in sight - check this and remember why we all got into dubstep in the first place.
