Review: Since forming way back in 2009, Tim & Chad & Sherry - a 'supergroup' featuring members of Silver Jews and Lambchop - have flickered in the shadows, thrilling those bold enough to check out their obscure, hard-to-find ways. This second album, snapped up by the eagle-eyed A&R types at Tirk, should see their profile soar. For starters, it's an excellent set, delivering the sort of loose, sun-flecked grooves and warm, fuzzy songs that recall classic Beck and early Hot Chip. With stoner rock, Prince style soul, lo-fi pop and Pavement style fuzziness in the mix, there's certainly plenty to enjoy.

Review: There aren't too many new ideas left to explore within the minimal house sound, but Chad seems to have found a few new possibilities. On "Cut Up", he deploys the doubled up claps so beloved of post-Sandwell techno producers to an arrangement centred around dubbed out drums and a black vocal sample claiming that "there has to be a method to the madness". On "Awake", Chad offers a different perspective on this well-used sound. The rhythm is stepping and the accompanying effects tripped out, and they lay the basis for a growling vocal that says "sooner or later you'll always have to wake up" in between the filtered breakdowns. Here's hoping that Chad's dreams never end.

Review: Nashville-based combo Tim & Shad & Sherry make music that's gloriously hard to pigeonhole. At times, their brand of loose-limbed, post-alternative groovery sounds like a contemporary take on Beck (see the brilliant title track), at others like blue-eyed soul as recreated by a bunch of slackers in a rented lock-up (see the rather quite beautiful "Don't Disturb This Groove"). They're even capable of krautrock-inspired, droning oddness, as displayed by the formidably scratchy closer "The Greatest Fans in the World"). Of course, if you're an All Tomorrows Parties (RIP) regular, you'll probably already have heard them. The rest of us have got a lot of catching up to do.
