Review: With tracks and releases under his belt on Fokuz, Soul Deep and Luv Disaster - mostly during a super-productive 2012 - Brazilian basshead Duoscience is beginning to make something of a name for himself. This latest two-track missive is typical of his take on drum and bass. His cuts are rarely less than sunny, soul-flecked and surprisingly deep, and that's certainly the case here. Opener "Thanks" is particularly good, offering a smooth combination of South American breaks, warm chords and bluesy jazz horns. "Think", meanwhile, has a more rigid snappiness - all hypnotic bleep melodies, intricate percussion programming and laidback atmospherics

Review: One of the US bass scene's more colourful characters, Quentin - or Quintonius the sage as he styles himself - has teamed up for two tight collabo exercises that work very different dancefloor limbs. "Cleo" is a progressive gem that sparkles the most in long, dark tunnels. Clunky two-steps smudge the rhythm as the vocals stir deep emotions to the floating backdrop of crisp clean synths. "Discomfort" is a much heavier affair with a thicker rhythm, more complex drums and bassline that doesn't sound a million miles away from Dead Prez. Big ups Quintonius.

Review: If you like things deep, dark and brooding then this excellent release from Nitri on Plush should cut the proverbial mustard. A spaced out intro of crackling white noise and sonorous atmospherics swiftly progresses into a soundscape carved out from snapping snares and moody minimalism. As the track moves on, we are plunged deeper and deeper into the unknown, with only a glimmer of bassline pressure to guide us. Murky and meditative, this one track single provides plenty of food for thought.

Review: Dreamy, ethereal D&B here from Self Definition on the Plush imprint. "Lost Land" is all shuffling beats and hissing hats, clicking and clapping with swathes of heavy atmospheric sweeps over the top like a weighty storm. The bassline undulates below like lapping waves and cooing instrumentals dance a-top. "Incognitus" (feat. Yankowsky) is all panpipes, spaced out SFX and oriental atmospheres, with a whispering vocal element and pattering breaks. Tripped out, blissed out D&B here with a difference.
