No One Is Out Of Touch (Louderbach Go Away remix) - (8:43) 121 BPM
More has a small back catalogue, but he has already released on respected labels like Correspondant and Items & Things. This second release on Get The Curse features more of the same tripped out grooves; "No One Is Out of Touch" is a slow-motion affair, its solid claps and low slung rhythms reminiscent of Chicken Lips, especially when the delayed synths kick in. "Remains Of The Recent Past" is similarly inclined, with groaning, creaking sounds and tortured vocals adding to the sense of weirdness. Finally, there's the Louderbach version of 'No One.' Featuring the same low-slung bass, Troy Pierce deploys bursts of guitar and Gothic vocals to make sure his version stands out.
Russian producer Buzz Compass (aka Andrey Bychenko) is back with a new tune that arrives flanked by three mixes. The original is a captivating disco-funker that's a veritable whirlwind of escalating string samples, very much like Kiki's Luv Sikk from way back in 2002. Olej opts for moody electro-boogie on his mix, while elsewhere Shyam goes all slap bass and The Gemini Brothers go for retro The Beloved or Sueno Latino-style late 80s Ibiza house.
Spearmint Tastes Better Than Cheap Rice - (6:32) 120 BPM
Golden Hour - (6:39) 116 BPM
Feelings Shaped Around A Crazy Beat - (5:22) 117 BPM
Mellow Per Te - (7:35) 106 BPM
It's been a while since we heard from the usually reliable No More Hits label, a regular source of quality material that sits somewhere between sample-heavy original productions, illicit remixes and re-edits. Here, producer Mat Chiavaroli delivers a quartet of floor-friendly concoctions. There's some jazzy, early '90s US house deepness in the shape of sax-sampling "Spearmint Tastes Better Than Cheap Rice", some lovely deep house/jazz-funk fusion ("Golden Hour") and an unusual trip into chopped-up soul-jazz-meets-deep house territory ("Feelings Shaped Around a Crazy Beat"). Best of all, though, is the downtempo "Mellow Per Te", which somehow forces together woozy beats, tasty deep house chords, vintage synths and an intoxicating vocal sample.
