Review: Denmark may not spring to mind when thinking of the late, great Rick James and his breed is glittery funk. However its Danish label Breakbeat Paradise that Go-Go addict Morlack has chosen to release his James-referencing Touched It EP. This one even comes with a special video featuring the James-meister in his spandex-clad prime. In short this EP is packed with five retro boogie edits, highlights of which include the pitch-bent boogie stomp of the title track, the tight digital synth funk of "Take A Ride On The Soft Side" and the quirky groove mania of "Take A NY Trip".

Review: Although the cover of this latest instalment in the Paradise Breaks series echoes the famously trippy sleeves of '70s prog rockers like Yes, the music couldn't be more modern. Actually that said, many of the productions on here do plunder the '70s for inspiration but they choose funk over wizard's capes and that. Highlights include the mighty "Bad Mother" which combines raw soul divas vocals, wah-wah guitars and thumping break beats, J-Sounds' tight and groovy break-funk jam "On And On" and the super catchy shuffle-pop gem "Nobody Else" by Arteo. A totally mixed bag and all the better for it.

What You Wanna Do - (3:55) 149 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release

Review: Serial album-blaster Morlack returns from his Go-Go odyssey with what must be his thirty-first long player. Going back to his dirtier bass, disco-edged samples and classic hip-hop vocals, it's another 12 track funk adventure with something for all DJs. Highlights include the fidgety swing of "Anything U Do Is Ugly", the Zapp & Roger style west coast steez of "Who Comes" and the all-out block-busting grit of "Jukebox". Concluding with the sweet digi-skank and slap bass bubbles of "What You Wanna Do", it's yet another immaculate collection from the unstoppable (and probably unsleeping) Morlack.

Review: Denmark's Breakbeat Paradise, as the name suggests, is Scandinavia's holy ground for anything breakbeat-oriented. Starting as an early music website back in 1996 it has since then developed into a full-blown label and an impressive one at that This time we have five different names and five different tracks, ranging from Conte Crux's electro-charged "Turn It Up" to "Like Jello" by DJ Rudd - featuring masterful sampling and chopping throughout. Morlack's "Makossa" re-spins some old-school NY rap, whilst "Bring Back The Funk" itself is a driving, break-ridden floor monster. DJ Throwback's "The Hook" tops it all off with some loose, hip-winding beats and breaks a la Africana.

Review: It's not often an artist gets treated to being remixed 18 times on the one release, but here Morlack pulls it off. But before the remixing gets underway he raises the curtain with a Notorious B.I.G sampling gambit of slashing synths, tearing basslines and fluttering drums. Then there's the remixes. Funkanomics get all big band, Stevie Wonder and straight up hip hop on part two of a remix to "Take It To The Zulu", while BadBoE provides a killer remake of "Nice & Rough". James Brown is in the place during Trotter's remix of "Play Cards Right" while Morlack electrofunkifies himself in a 2014 remix of "Ghetto Vaccination". More breakbeats than you can poke a DJ at!

Review: French producer Morlack pops up with this bangin' little release on BBP Recordings. "Ghetto Vaccination" will turn the most heads here, appearing in both original and remixed by Badboe form. The Danish producer adds some nu-funk muscle to his version, adding a sheen of buyability to an impressive release that also includes three more Morlack originals - namely "Electrophonic Mind", the squealing sax of "Nice & Rough" and Juno Download freebie "Play Cards Right".

Review: French breaks head Morlack returns to the BBP label after his first "Ghetto Vaccination" release for them a few years back with this sample-tastic, funk 'n' breaks work out. Lead song "Take It To The Zulu" gets split into two parts - one bearing a huge nod to Afro-tribal house and the other leaning on more of haunted hip-hop tip. "Get It Hot" however switches up styles into a jazz-funk blitz while "See The Light" goes all out soulful with some excellent mellow jazz samples layered over kicking breaks drums.

Review: Morlack's been on incredible form throughout 2013, and nothing sums up his skills better than this extensive EP on Breakbeat Paradise. "Let's Go Jammin" takes a cover of a Newcleus classic and applies some serious bubble bass and pop skank motifs. Premium party vibes can be found in the drum-dunking, uptempo bass romp "Get Your Back Off Of The Wall" and the raucous Wu-Tang/ACDC fusing body-slamming "Thunder Banger". Elsewhere Morlack shows off his more sentimental, emotional side with the Lord Finesse referencing "Everyday Thoughts" and gets his rocks off with the instant air-guitar strutting "When The Problems Are Dead". All areas of the dance covered in five simple booties - Morlack's reign over the nu-funk scene continues unabated.

Review: Breakbeat Paradise continue their commendable services to ghetto funk freaks across the globe with this rather delicious four track from French funkateer Morlack. The lead piece, a pelvis thrusting rendition of Tower Of Power's '72 hit "You Got To Funkafize", sets the agenda with supreme squidgy bass and a groove that simply won't quit. "Party Squeezing" follows, and with it comes an enchanting slap bassline that should woo the most poe-faced of dancefloors. Elsewhere we get a little lively on the horns with "Champagne & Caviar" and "Lil Strange To You", a track that harbours a walking bassline that's so brutishly funky rumour has it Bootsy Collins' chopped off his ear when he listened to it on our site.

Review: French funk baron Morlack returns to Breakbeat Paradise with a textbook quad of mid-tempo booty-shakers. "Chinchillas" takes Snoop to the disco, "Cele-FUNK-Tion" stomps with walloping 80s boogie flavour. "Ready Ready" gets Dizzee and spins with vibrant jazz funk fusion. "Party Time" finishes the set with Rick James/Bootsy style groove garnished in a healthy sprinkle of ragga. Lovely.

Review: If you're into beats and basslines then the Breakbeat Paradise label is the stuff of dreams. While many labels try to branch out into different styles and often lose their identities on the way, these guys deal solely in raucous breaks for the big room dances. While they usually release compilations by single artists, the imprint launched the first volume of the newly crowned Funk Bananas series. Coming through with a vast collection of new artists and familiar faces, these cuts are guaranteed to jump-start your Saturday evenings. Electrogorilla, Rory Hoy and many others dish out party bombshells in an old-school flavour. A mighty fine collection, indeed!

Among the 15 tracks, look out for Pimpsoul's low-slung remix of Badboe's "One of Those Days" and the re-energised Southern soul of Jiggy Joe and Prosper's "Sweet Home Smoke".

Review: Mo-Matic, mo problems... Problems for you - the choice of four excellent versions. Problems for your dancefloor - big bassy ones. Let's start with Mo's original: a low-swung slug cut that combines an A-Skillz flavoured wormy b-line with surging vibrant synths, it's a real face-muncher with myriad twists and drops along the way. But don't stop there. Remixes from DJ Love, Some DJ and Morlack complete the package, causing all kinds of carnage opportunities for any DJ with a penchant for the busted beat and raffish low-ends. A true party piece, this deserves all kinds of attention.
