Review: If, like us, you're still getting pain pangs from Dissident withdrawal symptoms, the recent spate of digital reissues from Andy Blake's long-gone label offers some relief. The latest cut to get dusted down and re-released is "The Bounce", the seventh track from Blake's own Control Voltage project. Despite its vintage - it originally appeared way back in 2008 - "The Bounce" has lost none of its power. Like much of Blake's work since - and the musical direction of his World Unknown night and label - it offers an uncompromising, twisted take on late night acid house. Its energy and ragged, analogue sound recall not only Phuture 303 and Virgo Four, but also the darker fringes of Detroit techno.

Review: Tech sounds like the bastard son of juke and rude ass ragga. Over a detuned, rumbling bassline, Soulja Man drops insanely pacey claps, pseudo-horror riffs and the sound of a gun firing and reloading. It's like a sonic expression of every concerned parent's worst nightmare. The DJ Dodger remix is more upfront but straighter and more DJ-friendly: based on a slamming rhythm and pounding beats, the arrangement supports jarring riffs. The hilariously titled No Pulse No Heartbeat remix by Massacooramaan provides a further surprise, as it veers into low-slung break beat territory with a focus on the gun reload samples.

Review: Fresh from his Doubleheart collaboration on Boddika's Nonplus with JD Twitch, unsung UK techno hero Neil Landstrumm finds himself on German label Killekill with an EP that perfectly captures the myriad eccentricities of his sound. The abrasive yet bright tones of the title track have more than a hint of Drexciya about them, whilst "Jack's Creation" is in much the same vein, a rasping piece of proto-techno with a rhythmic swing that stays on just the right side of 2-step. "Robin Gets Revenge" meanwhile employs a devastatingly simple bassline which tumbles through echo laden rhythms, whilst "Touch It" utilises a similar approach, but with synths that hint at early rave music without being overly referential. The final track "Trevor Distance" may come as a surprise - slowed down to a hip-hop tempo, its testament to Landstrumm's unique sound that it doesn't really feel jarring, being filled with all the weird electronic gurgles that make his material so unique.
