Review: Laidback Luke? No, Jason Laidback, to be exact. Purveyor of nu-skool breaks for close to two decades and formerly part of Finger Lickin' duo Slyde, it seems he's back! "Smoker Toker" is yet another tribute to everyone's favourite herb in the form of a dirty late night garage tip. "Oz Voodoo" is a return to form for Laidback, showing us his electrofied, in your face breaks he's known for. Finally "Smoker Toker" gets an instrumental version for those hot fond on the green monologue of the original.

Review: A self-proclaimed 'bass music reprobate', there's actually nothing degenerate or anti social about the productions of this London music veteran. In fact this member of Finger Lickin's iconic Slyde duo and one time Bolshi artist has a knack for making extremely positive sounding productions. Here he presents two more slices of this sound - the full, skippy sing-a-long pop houser "Deeper Dank" and the breaky 90s organ-heavy wobbler "Love Is A Bassline". Get boppin'!

Review: Former Slyde member Jason Cohen continues his prolific endeavours under the Jason Laidback alias with Freaky Ways his fifth single of 2015, all of which have come exclusively through his own Nightprowl label. Freakyways sees the self-proclaimed 'bass music reprobate' team up with vocalist Slimm with the lead original version a dank UK garage roller that may well indeed look to the Notorious BIG for inspiration. Complementing this, Laidback Jason turns in a Warehouse Mix that toughens up the track markedly and gives the producer a chance to show his prowess at chopping up all manner of drums.

Review: Lisbon producer Lake Haze pops his UTTU cherry here with two classy forays into the world of his beloved UK garage. The boy's done good with these new additions to the label's revered catalogue - "Late Night Trip" is a stomping 4 x 4 wobble belter wrapped in typically trippy, bleepy melodies. However, with its laser blasts, epic synthlines and heavy tropical rhythms, "Need For Speed" ain't just Tom Cruise's favourite, it's ours too!

Review: Lisbon producer Lake Haze returning to the bastion that is the UTTU imprint with Force Of Nature, an excursion into pure UK styles, fusing classic grime, house, garage and dubstep into a fresh-sounding whole. The elemental names should tell you all you need to know about how fierce these tracks are, with "Tsunami Riddim" and "Lightning Riddim" primed for club play. There's another side though in "Brandy Riddim" and "Vapor Riddim" which takes things back to the '90s - another essential grip from DJ Haus' label!

Review: It's always a thrill to unearth a brand new selection from the Tectonic team, who here have got busy delivering a spicy new four track collection from the unstoppable Lamont, who most certainly doesn't disappoint us. We kick off with the title track 'Hold Dat', an industrial post-dubstep warbler, infused with unpredictable drum slaps and lush sub designs below to bring us a truly original intro. From here we take a more rhythmic route as 'Push' delivers an eerie combination of metallic percussion and haunted vocal sampling, before the post funky tom pushes of 'Brain' switches the vibe completely. Finally, the moody half-time drum slams of 'Open Letter' brings the EP to a close, having showcased an incredibly wide-range of electronic music themes. Awesome!

Review: Bristol continues to lead the way when it comes to mutant strains of bass music, as this debut EP from newcomer Lamont on the city's Durkle Disco imprint proves. "Far Away" is a strong debut, with sharp synth strings, exotic sitars and subtle chords riding jaunty sub-bass and hard-to-pigeonhole post-dubstep beats (somewhere between 2-step garage and dubstep). The remix package is particularly strong, too, with Zed Bias delivering a warped and heavy two-step interpretation, and Foresaken dropping a sparse but intense, bruk-meets-breakcore rework. Throw in similarly impressive remixes from Hi5Ghost (discordant vocal samples and skittering beats) and Oh91 (grime-meets-two-step), and you've got an excellent EP.
