Review: As always, the Time Is Now banner is riding high with this top quality six track collection from Nitework providing all the energy a dancefloor needs. We open up with the old school vocal & chord combinations of 'Desire', before the choppy vocal melodic grooves of 'Be There' and colliding percussive underbellies of 'This Ain't Love' take the lead role. Next, a more stripped back outing as 'Lose Control' gives us a moogy drift of a bassline to play with, with the glittering synth work of 'All Night' then arriving for an additional punch of nostalgia. Finally, 'Falling' gives us a killer closer, rounding off this top quality collection with more vocal chopping magic.

Featuring 9 original thumpers, we get to explore a wide range of garage and underground dance flavours here, from the nostalgic 4x4 bass notation of 'Back Again' and glittering synthesiser sweeps of 'Magic Arp', to the more abstract ideas contained in and around 'Who Created House' For us, the highlights across this top quality collection have to include both the ecstasy inducing synthesiser runs of 'Want More', along with the fidget-like bass designs of 'Take It Easy'. Review: Murder He Wrote straight out of Manchester brings a second version to his self titled 'Murder He Wrote' collection of tracks and bangers. Where the first compilation took in some production highlights that dated back to 2016, part two brims with two brand spanking new originals in "Tweet" and "Frozen", while the six others have all been lifted from the guy's massive Roska Kicks & Snares back cat. It provides a step back from the vocal heavy tunes from the producer of late, with the MHW returning to his roots in sub-bass, drums and percussion fully designed for the club.

Review: D'EAUPE, the forward-thinking record label spearheaded by electronic music duo Shermanology, unveils a stacked remix package for their previous Roots EP. Featuring a impressive lineup of artists, each naturally brings a twist of style to the original numbers. Rene Amesz leads the charge with his pumping remix of "Jabula", blending Verseless & King Her's vocals with some heaving beats. Hector Couto pulls out the filter sweep in his remix of "Touch" while SYREETA's dubbed-out breakage of "Jabula" offers a fresh perspective with a flow of dynamic house rhythms and heavy bass weight undertow. WZA's club mix of "Hijos De La Noche" turns the saw waves and garage vibes up to 10 leaving Chico Rose's reimagining of "Coco Loco" to hold down a super solid and techy groove. Sherminated.

Review: Coming in smokey from the Flexout Audio collective, another vibrant compilation collection, exploring the more atmospheric end of the UKG spectrum with the second edition of their 'Waves' series. Featuring a wealth of exciting artists, we see the likes of Trail, Relict, GLM, Able, EVOLVED & more arrive with some fabulous feature work, unloading emotive harmonic structures and smooth drum arrangements for a truly ethereal underground experience. Our highlights for this one would of course have to include 'Halo' from Dominus, a smokey slink through crunchy synthetic gargles and metallic drumlines, backed up by the gnarly LFO work of Vektah's 'Rotation Heavy' and the head-low bops of 'Rhythm Choke' from Theoretical, again demonstrating the range of sonic beauty on display here.

Review: Released midway through November 2022, Desert Sound Colony's 'Fresh One' is a deliciously difficult to pigeonhole affair that combines elements of electro, techno and tech-house. This fine suite of revisions takes the track in umpteen new directions too. The EP-opening CalMCee version is a druggy, low-slung tech-house tweak, the Shli remix a bustling breakbeat affair, and the Stolen Laptop remix a blend of ULG, electro and post-dubstep heaviness. Those seeking breathless techno intensity should check the SDS Max Hammer Drill remix, or embrace the two-step shuffle, warped bass and sparkling synth sounds of the Hunter Starkings remix. Elsewhere, Sosti's revision is a mind-mangling, echoing and acid-fired affair, while Laurdrup's revision is deep, rolling, sub-heavy ad subtly informed by 1990 bleep and breaks.

Review: It's always good to see the DJQ train continuing to run, being one of the true pioneers of bass music in this country. He has once again landed on Local Action for a vibrant collection, this time seeing the past become remade with 'Est. 2003 Remixed'. We are greeted by a host of wonderful garage names, from Todd Edwards & Flava D to Al Wooton & Baltra, giving us a full spectrum of new school garage ideas with a tasty dash of old school to match. The project is an undeniable success in celebrating the endless career of DJQ, with our out and out highlights including the awesome Soul Mass Transit System rework of 'I Couldn't See', originally from DJQ & Wolfie, alongside Jeremy Sylvester's tidy relick of Speedy G's, originally featuring Finn. Awesome work!

They unveil a powerful new collection for their first compilation drop of 2021, including music from heavyweight garage faces such as Champion, MPH, Tuff Culture, Vital Techniques and more, whilst also introducing some of the most exciting new faces in Hans Glader, Oppidan & Zefer. The nine-track selection is seriously impressive, with Shosh's own 'Stick It Up' original proving to be one of the initial highlights, alongside the super colourful melodic slides and scatty drum work of 'Guard The Barrier' from Breaksmiths. Incredible stuff from an incredible team.

Review: As ever, it is a truly exciting time to be a CruCast fan, with this latest christmas compilation seeing some of the biggest names in the business join forces for a ferocious throwdown. The tracklisting itself is made up of non-stop bass stardom, with the likes of heavyweights such as Skepsis, Kanine, Darkzy, Window Kid, Turno, Disrupta, Original Sin and Sub Zero being just a handful that immediately jump out. The project features a range of heaters from across 2023, including the hard hitting sounds of Zero's 'Acting Like ILY', the sizzling synthesiser swipes of Amplify & Nu Elementz's 'See Me' and of course the unforgettable euphoria of AC13 and Grace Barton's 'Mesmerised'. A damn fine way to close off another successful CruCast year.

A hugely successful artist circumnavigating the world DJ circuit, Mirrors sees Seinfeld delve into a melodic world of melancholic synths, UKG and US house associations next to blends of contemporary trance, R&B vocals and pop experimentalisms. Like some kind of neo-Four Tet, Burial and Panthu Du Prince collaboration, Mirrors embraces a sound to perhaps associate with the twilight of summer, and the nostalgic expressions that Seinfeld's keys, strings and vocals bring. It follows Seinfeld's critically acclaimed 2017 debut album - Time Spent Away From U - and his first for Ninja Tune, that sees the artist's sound reach new heights of fidelity.

This complication marks that out perfectly with an astonishing selection of over 30 original creations, featuring high profile appearances from the likes of Jaguar Skills, Brent Kilner, Pavv, TC4, Inkline, Deadbeat UK and a tonne more. For us the EP highlights the strength in the current UK bass scene, with favourites being Bushbaby & Hadean's long-awaited collaboration release 'Clean Up', the monstrous swinging synths of Tengu's 'Weapon' and of course the wonky wonderings of SaidWho's 'Voices', a truly original compositional idea, focussing on rawcus bass sounds and scattered drum selections.

Review: The Time Is Now team have a real knack for finding unusual yet satisfying releases from a wide range of production talents, with the latest in line being the London, Brighton and Madrid based sounds of Tower Block Dreams. He unveils a spicy six tracker for us to enjoy, kicking off with super groovy chord structures and throwback LFO warbles of 'Wicked Ya No' before the fluctuation percussive drives and catchy vocal slices of 'Keep Coming' come into play. Next, a much more stripped back affair as 'Soundboy' focuses heavily on vibrating sub-bass movements alongside the highly energetic rolling chord melodies of 'Truss We' and the eerie, minimalist rhythms of 'Haterz'. Finally, Interplanetary Criminal arrives to give 'Wicked Ya No' a futuristic, sub-heavy rethink, adding a final dash of variation to a solid selection.

Review: Despite having a new release drop seemingly every week at the current rate, the Time Is Now crew show no signs of slowing down or decreasing in quality, with this new edition to their 'White' series from Tower Block Dreams doing some serious damage. We open up with the breaks infused chops and UKG-influenced LFO sweeps of 'Bare Dubs', setting the pace and style for the project nice and early. We quickly hear the pressure intensify next as 'Street To The Slammer' combines old school grime-style synth lines with crunchy, lofi style drum crunches for a unique sonic adventure, before 'If You Want The Reload' floods our eardrums with piano-driven nostalgia. We then see that nostalgia modernised as the plucked beauty of 'Last One From Me' launches with some tidy sub-exploration and shimmering synthetics above, before 'From The Top' lets the moog loose with a warbling bassline, topped with minimal yet potent drum switch ups, summarising the project nicely with one final dance!

Review: It felt like it was only a matter of time until we saw this one come together, as the super-consistent sounds of Kobe JT finally land on Time Is Now for the 11th edition of their fabulous 'White' series, exploring white label themes with four brand new sizzlers. We open up with 'All I Do', a blast from the past with its colourful organ chords and mellow drum sweeps, closely followed by 'Next DJ', which sees The Phat Controlla join the party for a more niche-inspired look at 4x4 flavour. From here, a more moody combination of sparkling chord pulses, 808 bass drives and haunted synth incursions arrive on 'Lost In The Club', which leads into a tidy finale as 'Hope' combines chilling synthesiser pads with punchy drum rhythms in style. A scrumptious selection indeed!
