Review: Following a great run of house/dubstep bangers that have seen big love from Skream, Benga, Toddla T, Redlight and more, UK producer Dismantle effortlessly kills it with these two new tracks on Wheel & Deal. "Computation" is a pacey, upfront bass classic in the making, with retro synth shots riding a Dutch-style beat, while "Word Dance" carries on in the same vein with some slowly rising, pitch-shifted vocals over a Buraka Som Sistema-style beat. Anyone feeling Crookers latest Dr.Gonzo output will definitely want to get hold of this pronto.

Review: Out on N-Type's Wheel & Deal imprint, London duo Soap Dodgers build on their recent support from Skream and Youngsta with these two new tracks. The huge, kuduro-rhythmed "Rachel Went South" is perfect for spinners who like to rise up into the 140bpm zone and proves a very solid worker with some scratchy bleeps and thick kicks keeping every second thrilling. On the flip, the equally sharp "Belly" dips low for a polyrhytmic half-step snare but keeps the adrenaline pumping thanks to plenty of itchy 808 hits and addictive acapella shots.

Review: Having thoroughly re-established himself in the wave of re-appropriated juke on last years Rooms album, Machinedrum steps up with this rapid fire EP of sliced samples and R&B brightness. "SXLND" distils some serious auto-tune mangling into a broken rhythm, while "Van Vogue" captures the feel-good flavour of early nineties chart dance in a strange, understated soca groove. "DDD" is almost outright house music, albeit with plenty more snippets of vocal getting jiggy with each other, but the smooth shuffle is hard to resist despite its prevalence in these times. Machinedrum's versatility can't be argued with, but more impressive is how he maintains his sonic identity throughout. Highly recommended.

Review: Following Jacques Greene's superlative entrance into the art of releasing music last year for Night Slugs and Luckyme, the Montreal resident serves further notice of his clear talent with another drop for the Glaswegian crew. "Another Girl" has been a staple of the Greene DJ set for a while now and it finally arrives - expertly teasing out warm tones of bubbling melodies and heart yearning vocals over some typically next level beat programming. In less words: A certified anthem! Just to make a good thing that little bit better, Luckyme throw in remixes of Greene's last release from UR legend Mark Flash and Rinse uber talent Braiden as well as digital only refixes from Koreless, the Glaswegian whose been branded the new Joy Orbison, and Machinedrum. Big tip.

Review: Excellent release here from Deadboy on Glaswegian imprint Numbers, who returns to the imprint after dropping their first ever 12" in early 2010. The Brighton based producer serves up the epic "Wish U Were Here", which locks into a 4/4 pulse with euphoric Virgo-style synths and a deftly tweaked vocal snippet - solid end of night tackle right here! Up next you'll find "Here 4 U" and "Ain't Gonna Lie", with the former's rolling congas and snare patterns complemented by the latter's syrupy vocals, pinball percussion and straight up garage rhythms. Serious heat once again from the Numbers crew.

Review: The latest release from the Glaswegian imprint adds a further sheen of excellence in a year where Numbers has really knuckled down and concentrated on a schedule of multi faceted releases. Such has been the demand for Mosca's debut on the Numbers imprint, the London based producer cheekily took to touting advance DJ copies of Do Me Wrong via Facebook. Both tracks here are fully poised for the floor, priming a throwback Bassline / UK G swing dipped in a nowness from Mosca that's been evident on drops for Night Slugs and Fat City. Unusually, it's the B Side that's garnered the most attention, which is odd as "Done Me Wrong" is excellent, reigning in vintage female hollerations over clipping rhythms, swamping basslines and parping synths that pay homage to the classic "RIP Groove". Flipside, the more celebrated "Bax" is a dual assault on your senses, murky sub bass jabbing at your ribs, whilst the sweet cooing vocals whisper sweet nothings in your ears. All this is underpinned by a skipping mid 90s flex heavy on the neon stabs that has warehouse jam written all over it.

Review: Commonly regarded as the centrepiece of Night Slugs first year as a label, Girl Unit's incendiary ode to dirty south hip-hop is pretty much the epitome of a track that needs no extra embellishment. However we guess you can relent when Dirtybird deity Claude Von Stroke reveals an interest in tackling it. Thus Night Slugs present two of three Von Stroke remixes of the track - expect the third "Fully Dressed" version to appear on a forthcoming remix compilation. Strains of both the "Undressed" and "Butt Naked" remixes were heard several times over the Sonar weekend, and the titles lend some clues as to the stripped down nature of the results. The former slowly reveals an 8bit soaked variant on that distinct synth refrain over skeletal drums which explodes into brilliant colour at just the right moment. The Butt Naked remix is a far darker affair but no less potent.

Review: Stepping up for the next installment from the pioneering grime, dubstep and funky label Rinse is Royal-T. First up is "Inside The Ride", a rough and ready swinging stepper, with booming bass, funked up 2-step beats and plenty of East End attitude in the bleepy SFX, stabs and snapping snares. "Cool Down" pairs a hypnotic garage rhythm with cooing, silky smooth vocal and pumping dancefloor beats to enormous effect. Another legendary release from the Rinse crew!

Review: It's quite a turnout for the books to see Zinc delivering a release for Rinse, and he weighs in heavy from the off with 'Sprung'. Deploying a fat breakbeat reminiscent of 'Fat of the Land' era Prodigy, he rinses out a fat mid range riff against a sample intoning 'let's go' repeatedly. It's not the most original material, but Zinc makes this irrelevant, with an ability to make the masses move in ways that other producers can't. Elsewhere, 'Unlike Me' utilises lots of loud tricks and plenty of gusto, while "Unlike Me" sounds like the perfect hybrid of big room electro and UK funky, with a hollow bassline that mines grime for its sound to great effect. Finally "Recovered" utilises a similar formula, utilising an ascending melody and aggressive vocal looping to round off a bombastic EP.

Review: The near unstoppable run of xxxy continues with Kerpow on Irish label All City (responsible for that massive FaltyDL release this summer), complete with fantastically adorned, pop-art referencing sleeve. It's clear that his style has matured over his prolific run of productions; "Kerpow" is arguably one xxxy's most balanced productions to date, eschewing the day-glo garage of his recent tracks, and combining a pounding breakbeat and techno stabs with warm organ chords in just the right quantities. "Down Wit U" is a juke influenced cut, combining a relentless bass slam and restless 808 rhythms while the titular vocal sample adds a hook worthy of footwork contemporary Addison Groove.

Review: London imprint Pictures Music has swiftly aligned itself with the ever growing wave of talented young things making genre spanning music from machines - impressing with releases from Dark Sky and the perma fringed Seams. They reach out to Glasgow for their latest release, with 19 year old Koreless - currently being feted by the Young Turks and Hessle Audio stables - matching the labels previous output in terms of quality. Whislt there's been an overabundance of music revolving around steppy breaks, emotive melodies and almost orgasmic female vocals - the Hyph Mngo Formula if you will - "4D" impresses via the simplicity in production, eschewing layers of emotive musicality for a basic fairytale chord wrapped in snapping percussion, insistent bass and that all important vocal refrain. B Side excursion "MTI" is perhaps the stronger track, fuzzed out textures bubbling amidst the plughole drip of bass textures and subtle rhythms. It's hard to pin a musical style on the two tracks here, which is what makes so much music these days so exciting.
