Review: It's always good to see the DJQ train continuing to run, being one of the true pioneers of bass music in this country. He has once again landed on Local Action for a vibrant collection, this time seeing the past become remade with 'Est. 2003 Remixed'. We are greeted by a host of wonderful garage names, from Todd Edwards & Flava D to Al Wooton & Baltra, giving us a full spectrum of new school garage ideas with a tasty dash of old school to match. The project is an undeniable success in celebrating the endless career of DJQ, with our out and out highlights including the awesome Soul Mass Transit System rework of 'I Couldn't See', originally from DJQ & Wolfie, alongside Jeremy Sylvester's tidy relick of Speedy G's, originally featuring Finn. Awesome work!

Review: After an incredible showing at Boomtown with their already renowned takeover performance, the Crucast collective return here with an explosive collab between bassline veterans DJ Q & Jamie Duggan. This one is packed with energy as a collection of bass sounds run riot, bouncing off each other and creating some real rave dynamite. The unnerving vocal additions add something really special to this one as Q & Duggan continue on their 2018 killing spree.

Review: Now when we saw the lineup for the latest CruCast selection, it was a pretty excitable moment here at Juno Download HQ as we see DJQ, Jamie Duggan and Booda link up for a spicy three tracker on the ever-ready CruCast imprint. The title track 'Sirens' is an original we can see tearing raves to pieces come the end of lockdown, with its viscous synth designs, satanic horn stabs and rolling drum patterns giving us some seriously energetic vibes. Next, 'Chimes' arrives with a more niche approach, using warbling LFO's to give us a bit of a different feeling, before 'Melody' lets loose more grizzly bass thwacks and jumping rhythms to see out the project in style. This one also comes complete with an official speed garage edit of 'Melody' for good measure!

Review: Sinden and DJ Q touch down on Night Bass which, unsurprisingly, means a barrel-full of dread-out low frequencies and crafty dance moves. The two-tracker kicks off with "Bigger Than Jaws", unleashing a sidewinder of a bass, all wobbly and grime-friendly, filtered through a bumpy garage riddim for maximum floor damage. "The Original" is even nuttier in its apparoach and harmonic mannerisms, unloading some pure mutant bass over chilly rave stabs and another magnetic drum rhythm that's utterly club-friendly. Badass!

Review: What a legendary link up we find ourselves looking into here as the UK & US combine in infinite majesty. The legendary pioneering sounds of DJQ finally arrives for a full length drop on AC Slater's Night Bass imprint, showing us a different side to his character, away from his more typical niche inspired sound. We begin with 'Zip Zap', a bubbling techy roller, driven by well rounded drum designs and a perfectly placed vocal line from Robbie Rue, before 'Concentration' gives us a more raucous approach, allowing lethal synthesizer lines to take the lead. Finally we get to take in an interesting creation, showcasing Q's garage roots as 'Show Me Love' unleashes a chord driven arrangement, giving us a soothing throwback to close out the EP.

Review: Not to be confused with the Strength Music boss, or Glasgow's infamous house producer, this DJ Q is known as Shollen Quarshie to his friends, and has been heavily associated to the UK garage sound since the early 2000's. He's finally back to grace us with some of his magic, and it's London's Local Action that picks him back up from the depths of the underground. Thankfully, he's still very much in the mood to make garage these days, except that "Rocky" contains a thick layer of UK grime wobble, something which was subtler in his past tunes. "Poison" is on the same kind of tip, but its drop contains broken vocal samples that add to that killer drop feeling in the club. Bangahs!

Review: Following on from the super well received release of 'All That I Could', Local Action are bringing back the DJQ flavour to unleash two extremely enjoyable remixes, kicking off with Octo Octo giving a wonderful relick to 'It's You'. This is exactly what we wanted to hear when remixing this type of tune, altering the rhythms and instrumentation slightly but never moving too far away from those super catchy vocal lines. On the flip, Lavonz arrives on the scene with a mind to get choppy as the title track of 'All That I Could' is given a complete overhaul, stipping the track back into a spacey dancefloor killer!

Review: It's fair to there's currently nobody in the business making proper garage with the same flair that DJ Q currently does, and his new single, entitled "Trust Again", featuring the vocal talents of Brit School alumnus Louise Williams, is possibly his most classicist piece of 90s-leaning garage to date. Those who heard the producer's excellent vinyl-only track "Brandy & Coke" last year will know what to expect - strong vocals, clipped 2-step rhythms and razor-sharp production. Serious remixes are included too, withthe first remix in some time from from Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown, member of the old school garage outfit Tuff Jam, a bassline remix from DJ Q collaborator TS7, and a 4×4 mix from DJ Q himself.

Review: The Local Action crew are back at it again, revisiting one of their most popular original releases in recent times as DJQ & Hans Glader join forces once again, this time to celebrate their 'Thief In The Night' original with two scorching remixes. First up, Salute arrives with a blissful recreation, unleashing his super-uplifting style of dance music production with a tasty rework indeed. The second remix comes to us from the ever-dependable Al Wootton, who mellows the whole vibe of the tune out with a down-tempo, chord-laiden rethink, taking it to a different dimension entirely. Review: The instantly palatable grime and garage of DJ Q has been satisfying bassline lovers for many a year, not least with his appearances on Local Talk. Now Shollen Quarshie follows up on the mixtape showcase he did for Unknown To The Unknown with a full length album proper, and its packed full of the plush production and catchy hooks you would expect. There's a whiff of techno about the dreamy synths that open the album, not least with the spiralling notes that hover over the trap-rave stylings of "Two Faced", but elsewhere there's a wholesome dose of sugar-coated jungle with the pop vocal stylings of Kassandra and Louise Williams. It's a diverse album with a broad appeal to those who like their beats immediate and colourful, and might just be one of the unlikeliest pop albums of the year.

Review: Now this is a link up that we hadn't imagined, but now we see it, boy does it make sense. The team over at Local Action are known for being some of the most creative when it comes to building releases, so to see them link together DJQ and Hans Glader for a super tidy new single makes perfect sense. The track itself takes the title 'Thief In The Night' and is a certified belter, focussing on some genius vocal sampling and placement alongside a smooth, well rounded combination of soothing chord and lively drums to give us a tasty dish indeed. It's an international collaboration that once again shows just how popular garage music has become around the world in 2021!

Review: The thing we love about the Local Action imprint is that they genuinely keep us guessing every single time with where their next release is going to take us. This time around, they pull together a monumental collaboration as the ages of UKG collide in style. DJ Q & Hans Glader, two of the most talked about names across different eras of garage music, are joined by the unmistakable vocal marvels of Shola Ama for this wavy singalong entitled 'I Can't Stay'. There is something so appealing about this one's combination of organic sounding percussion and ethereal pad textures, in between which Shola's magnificent vocal sits perfectly. It's a summer singalong for sure!

Review: As always when we see a new DJ Q drop land into the store, we are filled with excitement, with this latest release back a fantastic nod to his garage roots across two summer-fueled firebombs. We kick off with 'All That I Could', a glistening singalong, perfect for warm evenings and a bubbling party atmosphere, assisted by some extremely well crafted vocal sampling and floating atmospheric textures throughout. On the flip, the party intensifies somewhat as 'It's You' deploys a combination of moogy bass textures with vibrant 4x4 rhythms to get the dance jumping. It's a fabulous look into the direction DJ Q is taking, and we simply can't get enough!

Review: It's been a hot minute since we last saw a full length DJ Q project, who returns in style here for this vibrant new 11 track collection entitled 'Est. 2003'. Featuring a host of fabulous guests including Hans Glader, Todd Edwards, Finn, Shola Ama, Sharda, Lily Mckenzie & Star.One, this project is a fantastic showcasing of UKG in 2022, combining the sounds of the old and new into a fabulous collection. Despite the majesty of the collaborations involved, DJ Q impresses even more so on his solo additions, with the quirky vocal twitches of 'It's You' giving us a unique flavour, next to the super emotional harmonies of 'Close Your Eyes', the nostalgia-inducing drum bounces of 'I Couldn't See' and the unforgettable vocal overlays of 'All That I Could'. It's a pretty monumental collection, that even with it being a garage project, we would recommend taking it in via long play format!

Review: UTTU have a cast-iron reputation for releasing cutting edge work by a wide variety of acts as disparate as Legowelt, Sinden and Capracara. Here we get a selection of their more bass/urban-oriented talent. Classified delivers vintage cut-up UKG on "Say To You". The latter is given a wobble heavy remix by DJ Q, who also provides the warm, Ayia Napa sounds of "All You Have To" and "You're Not Around". Zibba contributes the squelchy, string laden "Say To You (2006)" and Mooney goes all loopy funk on "Hey Hey".

Review: In three years the Get Twisted operation has put out as many compilations, and on this one DJ Q delivers some thumping pop-step in "Dreams". Furthermore there's the deep and dark bassline house of "Cut It Push It" by Riddim Commission and Taiki Nulight, while H Two O's "Need You More" is a sublime slice of haunted electro-house. And for some tropical acid and warped R&B vocals check out "Gossip" by Nick Tee.

Review: As one of the figureheads of the bassline garage scene, DJ Q has produced a massive amount of material since 2003, and this massive compilation collects 25 of his tracks from across nearly 10 years, including the bassline staple "Tea Bag". Of course there are plenty of other gems on the compilation, including the furious squelch of "Watching You" and the irresistible chipmunked vocals of "Old Flex". If you've even a passing interest in proper UK garage this collection is quite simply essential.

Review: Ahead of the imminent release of his much-anticipated debut album, UK funky megalith DJ Q drops a tantalising taste of things to come. With Robbie Rue on the mic, "Soundboy Connection" sounds like a UK Funky-era update of Groove Armada's "Superstylin" - all electro house pulses, UK funky bass and midtempo 4/4 shuffle. "Heaven" is a classic chunk of wide-eyed UK funky goodness (check those classic US garage organs and vocal cut-ups), while "Wreck It" is a ballsy romp through swinging bass-house territory. AC Slater lends a hand on "Oh Yeah", a rave-ready chunk of bassline-propelled peaktime goodness. A handy acapella of Rue's vocals from "Soundboy Connection" completes an impressive package.

Review: Where do we start with DJQ? Since the rearrising of the UK's bassline scene nationwide, Q has been at its forefront, both as a solo DJ/ producer and as ? of the infamous TQD outfit. He has played a massive part in shaping the audio texture of bassline itself, and his brand new album 'All Night' is a homage to that input, There are a lot of tracks on this project that are direct throwbacks to the more old school 'Niche' style of bassline, including the emotive sounds of 'My Bae' and the super skippy 'Arkham'. We also here more modernized creations from Q across the project, especially tracks such as 'Dirty Deeds' and 'Our Sound' which take more reese-like bass sounds and more rounded rhythmic patterns. This is a fantastic project in its entirety, showcasing why Q really is at the top of the game!

Review: The Q-miester is done powerdressing: now he's back in his trackies and jumping around to the springiest two-step you've heard since the last MJ Cole fanclub meeting. A premium balance of sweet soul from the vocals, big belly bass grit and concrete-smashing drum work, this on-point bassline/UKG hybrid marks the start of a whole slew of Q burners due to roll out in the coming months. We can wait.
