Goldie's classic track "Inner City Life" gets a new lease of life with the Break remix. The original track was a groundbreaking fusion of drum and bass, jazz, and hip hop, and Break's remix takes it to new heights. Expect heavier and more driving drums, funky bassline and jazzy samples for a timeless, fresh and stand out result. Goldie has annouced a remix package of his seminal 1995 album, Timeless in July this year so stay awake for more gems.
Vol 134 finds DJ Laurel back at the controls as he serves up three more reversionings of classic tracks. First to get the treatment is Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers' 'Berro E Sombaro', an irresistibly danceable, Latin-flavoured cut from 1979's 'Bustin' Loose' album that recently saw a Record Store Day reissue and that was also revamped by Chewy Rubs a year or two back. Then it's the turn of Tomorrow's Edition's 'U Turn Me On' from 1981, before Laurel turns his attention to Chanson's 'Don't Hold Back' from 1978. All three will get 'em moving for sure but 'Funky Sambaro' stands out.
Earlier in the year, Good Vibrations music founder Sean McCabe offered up his interpretations of tracks from Blak Beatniks main man Harold Matthews Jr's excellent debut album, 'Peripheral Visions'. For this second selection of 'Re-visions', McCabe has assembled a crack team of remixers. Rising star Piers Kirwan steps up first to rework 'Into You', placing the spoken and sung vocals above a dreamy and sun-soaked fusion of deep house and broken beat. Wipe The Needle fuse bruk and jazz-funk sounds on their excitable take on 'Love And Hate', before Haze City delivers a genuinely atmospheric and ultra-deep interpretation of 'Deep Into My Sleep'. To round things off, we're treated to an instrumental version of Kirwan's superb, EP-opening 'Into You' remix.
Turkey-based twin brothers, Emre & Mert Altinok aka Lunar Plane's highly anticipated return to Stil vor Talent comes in the form of the EP 'Waiting'. Embracing their musical roots while showcasing their evolved precision, this release harmoniously blends youthful artistry with mature sophistication. The title track and lead single "Waiting" captivates with its infectious blend of arpeggiated basslines and captivating vocals, offering an immersive experience for both club enthusiasts and daydreamers. "Je Danse" delves into the duo's darker side, accompanied by haunting vocals from Sezer Uysal. Concluding the journey, "Above" seamlessly merges melancholic melodies, energetic rhythms and enchanting flute accents.
Hypercolour reaches its one hundredth release. To celebrate this milestone, Jamie Russell and Alex Jones' label enlists the services of KiNK. The title track is a high-paced banger, featuring a dramatic vocal loop and rousing rave synth lines. It sounds like KiNK has distilled the energy of early 90s dance music into "People". "Ta" isn't as dramatic, but still hits hard, thanks to the interplay between a rough bass and airy melodies. In contrast, "Kazan" sees the storied artist go down a more considered route, with glitchy percussion melded with a dubby groove. Rounding off this 100th release is another dance floor banger, in the form of the heavy stabs and dense kicks of "Vacation"
Berlin's Superlover's hit track 'Piano Pump, blending house and Italo disco, was originally released in 2019. This time, the esteemed Italian duo NiCe7 takes the helm. Renowned for their releases on respected labels like Crosstown Rebels, Snatch!, and DFTD, as well as their remarkable remixes for artists such as Claptone and Jon Cutler, NiCe7 brings their signature touch to 'Piano Pump.' The remix retains the original's irresistible charm while breathing new life into the composition for modern-day soul-seekers yearning for the dancefloor.
