This guy knows how to get the groove on and "Save Me" is one of those tunes that'll send your panties in a twist from the first bar. Title track, "Kick This Thing" is a certified boogie tool, whilst The Owl's remix goes into deeper mode and brings out the percussion further. "Never Knew" is just the cherry on top of the cake - beats, bass and funk.

Review: Amazingly, it's 25 years since George 'E.A.S.E' Evelyn and then production partner Kevin 'Boy Wonder' Harper sat down and recorded "Dextrous", their monstrous, bleep-era classic on Warp. A quarter of a century later, Evelyn is still going strong, though the grooves have mellowed a lot in that time. Here, Warp celebrate the producer's epic career with a much-deserved retrospective. All the familiar favourites are present, from the rush-inducing thrill of early dancefloor smashers "I'm For Real" and "Aftermath", to the sinewy downtempo goodness of the decidedly Balearic "Les Nuits", the blazed hip-hop dub of "195 Llbs" and stoner soul of "70s 80s". Review: Originally released on Ed Solo and Deekline's Jungle Cakes booty-brand, both Inner Circle's "Bad Boys" Dawn Penn's "No No No" were previously super-charged and sprinkled with D&B powder to great effect. Now massaged down to a much more stately nu-funk tempo, both cuts still smash it. Ed and Stickybuds' rub of "Bad Boys" struts and swaggers over the top of a well-rounded hollow-tone bass note. "No No No", meanwhile, gets a much more robust bass treatment with a hip-punishing live drum swing. Essential.

Review: Brussels mandem Bredren get all arsonist with this scorching EP debut for Alix Perez's 1985. Four tracks, each one a flamer, we kick off with the forthright headbutt of "Inferno" where T Man holds court with savage bars. Deeper into the EP we hit their classic stripped back rolling sound on "Get Physical" before "Flick Knife" cuts straight to the chase with some sinewy, creepy low end flourishes. Last but not least "Undress" gets everyone naked with some beautiful light-at-end-of-tunnel barbed soul. Four out of four, Bredren are firing right now.

Be prepared for one well funky and soul infused journey on "Talkin Bout Life" which is perfect to bring in the summer of 2017. Review: Ludovic Llorca is clearly a man on a mission. Having largely disappeared from view for a couple of years, this is amazingly his third Art of Tones release in as many weeks. It's also arguably the strongest of the trio. "Take Me Higher" is a soulful, energetic and effortlessly groovy fusion on gospel, classic US deep house and contemporary British bass bottom-end. It's one of those tunes that's nigh on impossible to dislike. "Damped", a foray into fluid, late night deepness, is almost as good. The good news is that there are tons of Dubs and remixes to get stuck into, too, with Lauer's deliciously old skool, but lovingly fluid "Bert Remix" being the best of the bunch.

Review: If you swap the first letters of Judge Funk's name, you get Fudge Junk. We're still trying to work out if that actually means anything at all. However, whilst we all ponder that existential question, lets listen to the music. Yam Who? pack five JF tracks in this single on their Midnight Riot label. Including their own take on "We Want Prince", where the original's crowd-chanting elastic bass hysteria becomes the funkiest disco-funk this side of Minneapolis. Elsewhere "Heads" is thumping mid-80s electro soul, "Rubbanova" is brassy, Loveboat-era boogie and "Deal With This" is deliriously glamorous shimmering disco-house escapism.

Review: On his previous two releases, this shady re-edit guy, only known as 'V', caused many a cough and splutter within production circles over his decision to re-work largely well-known commercial hits. Maybe he's taken this on board, as here his selection is a lot less recognizable. "Miracles" is certainly identifiable as "I Believe In Miracles", but he's used the lesser know original by Mark Cappani as source material. Elsewhere, Betty Everett's "Hey Lucinda" gets almost doubled in length and Natalie Cole debut "Everlasting Love" gets stripped back. Review: Ah yes, "For Your Love", the 1978 Euro Disco classic from Chilly, hasn't that been re/edited by at least 78% of Soundcloud's disco edit community? Correct - it's actually second only to the gazillion marketing tools presented as a remix that are helping to power forward the career of Lana Del Rey. Psychemagik are yet to remix Lana Del Lips so we can forgive them for adding to the slew of edits of Chilly's Yardbirds cover version already released. As it stands the Psychemagik version of "For Your Love" is a commendable revision which beefs up the low end and extends everything beyond the ten minute mark. Much better is the sun blessed take on Joyce's "Aldeia De Ogum" which should come with a Punta Del Esta Approved stamp.

Review: Since the Disco Volante EP first appeared on wax a couple of years back, COEO has gone on to release a trio of sought-after EPs on Toy Tonics. Despite its' vintage, the five-tracker remains one of the Munich duo's strongest releases and sees them blend samples from classic recordings with their own drums and musical flourishes. Check first the breezy Afro-beat-goes-disco cheeriness of "Nigerian Affair", before whacking on the wonderfully rich keys and organic deep house bump of "Pajama Stomp", and the riotous, high-octane disco-house loop-funk of "Long Night Ahead". Best of all, though, is opener "Like It Is", a sweet, dewy-eyed, string-drenched soul revision that achieves the perfect balance between dancefloor grunt, and paying due reverence to the German pair's horn-heavy source material.

Review: Born On Road is one of the new-school of labels pushing the current moment's gritty, jump-up infused sound, the sound that has captured so many new fans to the genre in the past couple of years and which has catapulted the careers of Ben Snow, AC13 and others. This EP comes from the former and it's an excellent representation of where the sound is at right now, a massive, heavy piece of work that features David Boomah on a wicked vocal feature. The title track nails the sample, before rolling out with the foghorn sound on full display. It's top stuff and we're very much into it.

Review: Stillz returns to Gradient with one of his biggest EPs so far. Paying tribute to all the sesh fallen soldiers, the title track pays homage to all those crews who can't find a lighter when they get home for the afters as Stillz and Nick The Lot go full ploughman with the kicks and glitches. Five more fire-ups follow, each one as hearty and heavy. Highlights include the Gino-level slams and slaps of 'Autopilot', the tense eeriness and raw energy of the drop on 'Defect' and the playful horn action of 'Jazz Music'. Rest in peace to all the lost lighters.

Review: Keep away from the panic button! It might feel like you've been surrounded by ghosts of rollers past, you might feel like you've been hypnotised by the sinister gods of jungle but it's only the Utrah brothers and they've packing some of their best work so far... Both "Riddims" and "LowDefign" are up there with Serum and Benny L on that pranged out new groan flex, "Pathogen" is more directly trippy and sinister with its molten bassline and punchy cymbal-slapping drums while "Far" sets fire to your house and stands on the street mooning at you when you run out for safety. Ultrah sound.

Review: VIP time! Souped Up unleash some of the bossman's biggest specials from the last year. If you've seen him or Kings Of The Rollers play you'll already know them... Especially the hype riddled Inja fronted take on "Lumberjack". "Heavy & Dark" gets two crucial treatments, too; one gurning, crying VIP from Serum and a killer version with Carasel who brings a whole new vibe and narrative to one of the biggest tracks of 2018. Essential.

Review: During the 1990s, Chez Damier and Ron Trent's Prescription Records did more than any other label to define the sound of Chicago deep house. The label's reputation is such that it's still talked about in hushed tones, with lesser-known back catalogue nuggets remaining in-demand items with DJs and record collectors. This superb, double-disc compilation from Rush Hour tells the story of the label, gathering together both much-played underground anthems (Trent and Damier's "Morning Factory" and "The Choice", the proto-boompty-via-St Germain jazz-house of Angora's "Enchantment", and so on) and sought-after selections. Thrillingly, the collection also boasts a trio of previously unreleased Ron Trent cuts, all of which are superb.
