Review: Fire in the hole! Twisted Individual continues his return to the top of gully mountain with this collection of re-rubs of early-mid-2000s classics. Taking the lead himself with a rasping, gurgling take on his sweary, lairy "F Word", he sets the scene for the remix ruckus that follows... Damage Report will have you spitting your lls and your ffs with his riff-celebrating twist on 2002's classic "Wales", the omnipotent T>I adds a yummy swing and zest mouthfeel to one of Twisted Individual's trippiest delicate creations of all time "Swan Cake" while DJ Limited busts up a bloodclart or two with his subtle sharpening of "Galloping Elephant". Total version disturbance.

Review: Power up! Turno lets rip with the second part of his debut album. Once again it's an all-out sesh of the most eclectic order with a firm focus on the heavier side of his repertoire. Kicking off with a classic roughhouse Turno jump-up sound on the title track we're then hurled into a tech-teased bassline hurricane on "Covenant" while "Decapitated" genuinely lives up to its name. Finally we hit "Jekyll & Hyde". A deep Shogun-style stepper with lean elements and an iced soul, it's a fitting way to end the second powerful instalment of an artist who's absolutely smashed this year to pieces.

Review: The only problem we've had with Dawn Wall so far is not being able to work who they are. Until now... "Problems" is the anonymous act's most diverse and far-reaching EP to date. The title track adds even more mystery to the Dawn Wall story as it bombards us with a shredded bassline that's not dissimilar to SpectraSoul at their heaviest. "Never Say" plays a cool contrast with lush soulful breezes, spiritual feels and a light-footed feel to the riddim while "Shy" is all about the head trip with its soft harmonic keys and shimmering pianos. Further into the journey we're struck with overwhelming, soaring textures and skin-bubbling bass on "Nomad" and the triumphant soul finale "Lemon Dogs". Impeccable, once again.

Review: Achtung baby! Cologne's Brain Brainstorm returns to Liondub with this powerful seven-piece collection. Dubby flavours, hazy skanks, junglist beats and toxic levels of bass all play a lead role throughout: "Kill A Drum Pan" hits with tidal textures, "Forward" strips us back even further to the drum groove, "Moving On" fuses some expert cosmic drum work and sensual soul from Lady D-Zire, "Inside The Vaults" is all about the contrast between the euphoric pads and sizzling Lomax-style bass riffs while "Red Eyes" hits with an emphatic and heavily conscious vocal. Finally we're treated big horn magic on "Let It Go" (don't worry it has nothing to do with the Frozen song of the same name) before concluding with the rippled waves and tightly plucked guitar of "Brooklyn Dub Pt 2". An impeccable collection of modern jungle - this is close to a whole album. No filler in sight.

Review: Headed up by Brighton's Fingerman, Hot Digits Music return with London's Steve Gladdis aka Smashed Atoms - who after some spectacular releases on his own Magic Circles imprint and Paper Music, explodes onto the label with "Cut This Way". Sounding like it takes it cues from NYC disco legends Blondie as much as it does from American rapper Dimples D. "Wonderlust" (extended version) goes for more of a lo-slung deep house vibe which we found pretty sweet, while the bleepy "Lost Someone" gets back to the program with some sunny party vibes. Also featuring some superb remix action from Get Down Edits featuring Micko Roche and the Chopshop regular from Montreal: Dave Gerrard.

Review: Ten Ton Beats was started in 2011 by Rekless, since then the imprint has discovered many exciting debutants and become a gallant stepping stone for many artists. 'Flat Earth' is slow moving and raw with sharp drums, a disgustingly low sub and maybe one the funniest vox samples we've heard in a while. 'Addict VIP' is (for want of better words) an absolute banger, the slow, understated wavy sub is just so naughty you become totally transfixed by it, it's a good job there's a handful of whistles and drum crashes thrown in to wake you up. Damageman's remix of MQ's 'Slammin' sees simple breaks layered with early rave chords, wails and vox. 'Deadly Force' is deep and dark, bleeding the dirtiness jump up, with eloquent techy elements mixed with the occasion snip of soft female vocal, we are rating this track highly.

Review: It's a good time to be a Leaf fan right about now... Hot on the heels of his double-whammy "Pick N Mix" EPs on Serial Killaz, he steps up to Biological Beats with six more heavers. We kick off with a trio of co-labs: Manchester mandem Bou joins the fray for a rolling skank-up on "Selecta", man-of-the-moment T>I gets mucky on the iced-out stepper "Roller Derby" while Too Greezey brings a little bass slime to the sharp and stabby "Ghetto". Leaf finalises the deal with three killer originals: the sub-stacked cymbal-slammer "Yeah Bassline & That", the grotty sniper "Woobie" and the EP's most out-there scud missile "It's A Jungle". Massive.

First up comes a devilish twist on Aweminus & Danger's "Get Ya Respect" as the bassline gets flipped harmonically into a much more hair-raising experience while Syndicat's "Illusions" is turbo-charged into a brass blazing beats with a bassline so abrasive it also acts as an exfoliator. Review: It's a first class trip from Manchester to Bristol on the Ruffneck roller express as Hocus Pocus heroes Dawn Raid deliver four on-point work-outs. "Four Shots" disarms with a jazzy swing and some on-point words from the big guy himself. "Captain Confusion" sees them pairing up with K Jah for some flute-fired dream-laced soul while fellow Manchester man Bou twists up a little darkness on the soulful surges of the Jinx collaboration "Strife". Finally "Grotti" brings the heat as a classic jungle happy ending; ghostly, spacious and just a touch of the Cycle to it, we told you this was first class.

Review: Long-serving disco-house fusionist Hot Toddy (AKA Crazy P co-founder Chris Todd) is in a loved-up mood on this rather tasty three-tracker. Surprisingly, it's his first solo single for some five years, and his first for House of Disco. It's the breezy, funk-fuelled A-side "In The Genes", in which Todd expertly fuses together elements most often found in proto-house, NYC boogie, early house and disco-funk records, that stands out, though the standard naturally remains high elsewhere. "Love Music", for example, is a wonderfully sauced-eyed stroll through dreamy deep house/disco fusion, while closer "Love Can Set You Free" sits somewhere between stripped-back disco-house, percussive boogie and Idjut Boys style dub disco.

Review: Up next for Defected's In The House series is the UK's DJ Haus, 'a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator.' The Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs boss has received big props from the underground house community and in Defected's opinion: he's an ambassador for the future of house music. Quite a compliment there! Serving up a a wicked collection of raw and jacking sounds that encompass electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage: and all very much on the lo-fi tip. The supporting cast on DJ Haus In The Haus is quite a remarkable one and musical highlights are not limited to: NYC hero X-Coast (who is fresh off a killer release on Underthesea) with last year's sleeper hit "Mango Bay", Aussie larrikin and Steel City Dance Discs boss Mall Grab with the wicked "Pool Party" through to stateside jams by Justin Cudmore - who gives us a taste of the acid life on "Forget It" and so does the master Matrixxman on the epic "The Spell" (Original Mix).

Review: Time for a freshness flex: Shogun return to their new and rising talent series Point Of Origin and once again it's a big deal with 15 crucial cuts from 20 outstanding and future-shaping artists; from the already established and massively respected such as Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon, who follow up last year's massive "Take My Breath Away" with the deep space slinker "Burning", and Paul SG with his decidedly wobbled-out drumstick snapping roller "Holy Moly" right the way through to exciting new energies in the dance like Phaction, with his ghostly-vocalled soul-out "Distant Lovers" and Neve & Crimson's beautifully blue-notated jazz drum dark-out "Solar Rain" and so many stunning cuts in between (Mitekiss, Gerra & Stone, Was A Be, Macca & Loz Contreras, the list goes on) this is Shogun at its most exciting and forward-thinking.

Review: Launched at the end of 2015, Kent based Profound Beats is still very much in its infancy as an imprint, but this five track EP from Bou featuring his regular collaborator Dutta shows they're ready to play with the big kids. This EP is massive! 'Ganster Whistle' will have you pulling all types of bass faces while bussin' the one foot skank, trust us it's not optional the low end is just magnetic. 'Landscape' is one of those tracks that really stands out in a set, its distinguishing feature is it's high pitch, modern jump up melodic pattern, but the metalic, gritting grind between the bars brings something fresh. "New Beginnings' is our favourite track of the release, it's all about that pulsating low end. 'For The Moment' is stripped back dancefloor, cowbells, train horns and a dirty sub. 'Midnight' builds with a head bobbing, clapping and tapping drum pattern, but the glory of this track comes with melody, it's fun and party ready.

Review: Five years of pure filth flinging: Birmingham's highly respected Dubstomp 2 Bass crew celebrate this half decade milestone of murkery with an incredible 20-strong collection of tracks from their current collective of dangerous souls. Everyone is packing their a-game: from the swooning sexy R&B vocals of Jedi's "Oh Slow" to the jazzy twangs of Tomoyoshi's "Monochrome" to the jaunty loose limbed breaks, sly subs and orgasmic breakdown of Lymitless's "Silence Of Sound" to the brittle laser Qs and grotty groaning As of Subside's "Blast 'Em", every track here is primed for peaktime slappery, not only representing the label's presence and strength now... But hinting at an even bigger future.

Review: Feel the Power! Turno begins to wrap up his biggest year to date with his debut album on Low Down Deep. Delivered across the course of several EPs, the action starts right here as Franco fires up in all directions: "BMT" pays homage to the big men with a bouncy early 2000s-style bass riff and rapid chats from the MC like Kombo. "1989" rolls us back to the foundations with iced-out hardcore textures while "Lucifer" is a straight up sandpaper funk with enough grit to exfoliate you down to the bone. Finally we hit "Iris", a piano-laced moment laced to the core with breezy, soul-shuddering vibes. Power up.

Review: Hate to state the obvious, but Levela has well and truly levelled up with his debut album "Genesis". Longstanding operator across the spectrum for many years, both with his own productions and his label Multi Function in general, this is the document that really brings his message home. From the classic Xample & Lomax style breathtaking drone of the brilliantly titled "Brobots" to the TC-style damaging and arresting vocals of "Concrete Walls" by way of the vicious laser-firing neck-snapper "Cowabunga" and the Darrison-splashed bass house twister "Ride On" and the raw euphoria of "I Keep Going", this is Levela revealing every shade and style that makes him tick and drives him. A stunning debut album.

"Always" is a respectful edit of a certain legend - a wonder of Motown, if you will, and this timeless anthem gets wonderful resplice by Leali here. Next up "Nightlife" (Lego Classic edit) is another disco classic from the late seventies that will appeal to all those lo-slung crusaders out there. We said it last time and it must be stated again that this guy from Bologna has been in overdrive throughout the last year, hammering out a few dozen releases already in 2017. Review: It seems as if 15 years have just flown by since Berlin institution Watergate first opened their doors at the base of the famous Oberbaumbrucke, overlooking the River Spree and where long queues run down the street every weekend to get into one of the best clubs in the world. To celebrate their journey over the last decade and a half, they have put together a special anniversary release of 25 new, exclusive and formerly unreleased tracks. Residents of the superclub all appear, such as Hamburg native Matthias Meyer who teams up with Ryan Davis on the evocative "Hope", famed local duo Tiefschwarz deliver the slow burning and moody tech house of "Control", Sweden's La Fleur (of Power Plant fame) delivers the acidic bump and shuffle of "Femton" and former Stattbad resident and Beste Modus boss Cinthie gets deep on the classic house sound of "Hatschi Hatschi" which has a whole heap of swing to it!

"Feel The Beat" stretches and flexes with a nice amount of elasticity in the groove and some crafty use of a heritage rave sample while "Minimal Dance" provides a stark playground for some of the most disarming bass textures JTR has ever conjured. Deeper into the EP we hurtle for the grunting funk of "Glory" and the creepy twisted chimes and toxic bass of "What's Up". Deadly.

Just from gut-kick drone on "The Box", the opener on this killer six-track EP, you know you're in for a treat. Elsewhere "Don't Talk" plays hell with your senses via its spaced-out drain bass, the reverse bass weirdness on "Starkiller" gets you all tripped-out, warped and paranoid, and the precision percussion and classic speed garage samples on "Serious Riddem" hit hard with a Dread-style roll-out. For added darkness just on the Charge-style riff monster "Talkin" while "Wormhole" closes the show with some stripped back minimal mayhem. Stompz isn't messing around here.

Review: This expansive eight track EP/MIni album from the consistent Running Back label arrives with no information about the identity of the previously unknown Younger Rebinds. What we can tell you, though, is that it's really rather good. As the title hints, it's something of a retro-futurist treat, with the mystery outfit laying down a range of club-ready jams inspired by the rich history of house music. Highlights include the hands-aloft piano house simplicity of "Hite", the proto-house-meets-acid-house hum of the decidedly druggy and psychedelic "Retro7", the bounding, heavily electronic deep house bounce of "Oorgel" and the pitched-down, saucer-eyed Balearic house bliss of "Moonday". Those who enjoying playing around with percussion should also check the sweaty drum workout that is "7Beat".

Review: Strahil "Kink" Velchev may well be the hardest-working man in dance music. Each new-year brings a succession of fine singles, with little in the way of fluff or filler. Even so, the vast Playground is only his second album to date (his first, "Under Destruction", appeared in 2014). It is arguably his strongest collection of tracks to date, though. Over the course of the 12 tracks, he brilliantly demonstrates the depth and variety of his influences, variously turning his hand to cinematic downtempo beats ("Samodiva", "The Universe in Her Eyes"), warehouse-friendly peak-time anthems (stab-heavy smasher "Russian"), DJ Sneak/Dj Duke-style big room house ("Perth", 'Organ"), mind-altering experimental dub ("Peter Piet Pete"), Industrial ("Tate of Metal") and, of course, angular analogue techno ("Five", "Teo Techno").

Review: When Eskimo Recordings approached Bill Brewster with the idea of putting together a compilation exploring his epic record collection, the acclaimed journalist and DJ decided to take a widescreen approach. While the CD and vinyl versions are split into multiple, themed editions ("Post-Punk", "Balearic" and "House"), this vast, 41-track digital edition gathers everything together in one place. Predictably, it's a hugely impressive and eye-opening set, with Brewster serving up largely obscure or long-forgotten cuts that range in scope from trippy, dubbed-out post-punk disco, jaunty jazz-funk, synth-heavy boogie and heavily percussive Afro-disco grooves, to saucer-eyed European synth-pop, the dub techno of Maurizio, Swag's early UK tech-house and the East Midlands deep house bump of Charles Webster's "A Love From San Francisco" project. In other words, it's a cracker from start to finish.

Review: Label boss Luke Solomon returns to Classic with his first original offering in three years. On "Light You Up", Solomon recruits the poetic talents of Queen Rose and his recent disco cohort Amy Douglas - who's no stranger to Classic having collaborated with Juan Maclean on the Peach Melba project. For its live and loose feel, Solomon brings in long-time friend Andy Neal on bass and guitar and Powerdance bandmate Danny Ward aka Moodymanc behind the drums. With its sleazy guitar lick and absolutely fine vocal work over those snaking rhythms and liquid bass: it's already being championed by the likes of Horse Meat Disco. The track was mixed down by West Coast deep house legend Lance DeSardi for Builders Of Paradise.

Review: Champion feels so good he wants you to feel like a winner, too. This has been the way since he emerged eight years ago and proceeded to tear a hole out of the UK funky game. Flexing a sharp 4x4 feel with some deliciously manipulated bass designs and stacks of space between the elements to create a suspended state of funk and groove, every track makes you feel like a champ; the molten toxic bass of "One Time", the pure swamp-bass evil of "Drill", the chugging bassline/grime hybrid "Kill All Dem", the breath-taking textures on the Four Tet collabo "World" and the raw truth of "Young Raiden", the list goes on. This is how you do a debut album in 2017. Champion sound.

Review: As far as active legendary producers go within the Grime scene, there aren't many with the same high level of consistency as Silencer. Fresh off the back of his super popular 'Butcher' EP, he teams up with the electric energy of Maxsta on 'Black Mask'. Silencer goes to work to provide a dark and thunderous instrumental backing for Maxsta to run riot over with his skippy vocal patterns and uniquely creative grasp of multisyllabic patterns whilst describing some of the dark events of his past and present. It's dark, weighty and an instant must for grime DJ's nationwide.

Review: Nuke fire off another cannon of monthly scuds and it's chaos once again as Uncle Grav takes the controls for four blistering work-outs. "Don't You Wanna Dance" hits with a steel-melting bassline that cuts through the mix with alarming clarity, "Get It On" dims the lights for a little rolling healing in a rumpy pumpy bumpy bassline way while "Bath Salts" takes us deep down the wobble tunnel with trippy results. Finally "Atomic Blast" celebrates Nuke's spirit with an outrageous bassline punch-up that's reminiscent of a young Taxman. Boom.

Hardcore Harry - (4:17) 170 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release

Review: Hello darkness S.P.Y's old friend... The third and final EP in this walloping 15-track body of work Alone In The Dark, the Brazilian-in-Bristol has been saving his finest fire for the finale. "Transmission" taps into an old Total Science style Headzy vibe with soaring soul and jaw-breaking textures, "Hardcore Harry" builds a time machine from a classic break and whisks us back to Fantazia 1991, "Dominator Mode" is a percussion-focused batucada badman flex while "Lockdown" stinks of 2008 with its sweeping Xample-style bassline. "Dreaming" brings us a fittingly blissed out end and reminds us why S.P.Y's effortless and beguiling versatility and musicianship. From dark to light and back again, S.P.Y is a true master. This is one of his most important bodies of work to date.

Review: Codebreaking, body-shaking, earthquaking sounds: Bristol's D-Code make their debut on Boylan's On Point Audio with two super-slamming bassline cuts. "Trouble Makers" is all about the vicious sandpaper funk on the bass textures while "Infidel" has a great twist in its tale as it breaks down from a rough distorted bassline into an arm-raising ravey signature before dropping back into the chaos. Killer business.

Review: 20 years old and still sounding 20 years future: Roni and Reprazents' blueprint Mercury award winning album changed the game in every direction and still sounds completely of its own to date. Now polished with a little modern mastering touches without losing any of its rough, rolling Bristol soul, New Forms is an essential addition to any collection for all purposes; get sucked deep inside the likes of "Matter Of Fact" on your headphones, woo your respective other to the ultra-funk of "Watching Windows", blow your mind with the time signature science on "Jazz" or just batter your dancefloor with the likes of "Brown Paper Bag", "Trust Me" or "Morse Code". In fact there aren't many scenarios in life where this album doesn't fit perfectly. If this isn't in your collection yet, now is most definitely the time.

Review: Don Mclean could learn a trick or two from New Zealand's Headland; you could drive a Chevy (or any other brand of motor vehicle) up this "Levy" all day long and it'll never go dry. A true marching tune that gradually rises in intensity without ever losing its stately pace, it's the type of tune that was tailored for nights like System or DJs like Amit. Elsewhere we get seasick with the trippy glitches on "Seen" before going all-out darkside with the haunted humanisations on the foreboding "Cold Warning". Seriously heavy duty stuff as always from Headland. Man's having his pie and eating it right now.

Two Worlds - (4:06) 140 BPM

Review: 2017 has been an incredible year for Zha's White Peach imprint, with a plethora of high profile releases hitting stores at regular intervals. The latest in this impeccable line comes from Bristol's own; Bengal Sound. The title track is a work of art, with heavily swung mysterious eastern sounding samples and rolling hi hats taking the lead. We move quickly from that to dubstep fueled artillery with '2 Worlds' which focusses on tremendously heavy sub frequencies and unpredictably skippy drum arrangements. The EP continues with the dubstep theme as we move onto the B-side with 'Silence Soundboy'. This one is pleasingly reminiscent of early DMZ releases, bringing the combination of subs and space out to play. Finally we wrap up with the haunting dub-infused arrangement of 'Pablo'. This one is ghastly, with plenty of percussive and melodic vibrancy lurking just below the swampy surface. This one is definitely another winner from the seemingly unstoppable White Peach brand!

As yet untitled, each of the four cuts sparkle and shimmy with his signature warm flare. From the belting vocal harmonies on "Track 1" to the loose-limbed percussive and wonked-out bassline of "Track 4", Hotmood has cooked up another superlative vibration fest. Start counting down the days...

Review: Long-standing collaborators Binga and Shafique continue to go pound for pound on this bulbous nine-track EP. Eight originals and one stone cold Perez remix, this one's a danger session as a vibrant, dancehall thrust sizzles throughout. Highlights include the dreamy chorus on "Check Di New", the Carpenter style motifs on "Pot Ah Bubble", the squid bass and textured twist on Rider's smoky vox on "Rootsman Tonic" and the incredible surge of emotion on "Chinchilla" thanks to its beautiful rising chords on the finale. And that's before we even get to Alix's deep space twister take on "Highly Blessed". Nothing short of essential.

Aglio E Olio (original mix) - (5:57) 124 BPM

Review: Alistair Gibbs takes time out from churning out dancefloor gold on his Friends & Relations imprint to make a welcome return to Heist Recordings. Predictably, he's in fine fettle throughout. Opener "Affirmation" is an almost overwhelmingly positive chunk of loose and baggy disco house that's similar in feel - if not sound - to Tom Trago classic "Use Me Again". "Agilo E Olio", on the other hand, is a much more driving and low-slung affair, with key wickedly rubbery bass, cowbell-heavy percussion and fuzzy Clavinet lines providing heaps of dancefloor energy. Laurence Guy gives that track a warm, woozy and dreamy deep house makeover, before Nebraska rounds things off via the jaunty dub-house-meets-Maurice Fulton brilliance of EP standout "Big Plate Chicken".

Review: Many thought that Moonrise Hill Material co-founder Folamour's acclaimed second album, Umami, would only ever appear on vinyl. Happily, Classic has licensed it and here makes it available as a digital download for the very first time. The album boasts few surprises to those who know his catalogue and sees the hyped producer accompany dusty, sample-heavy deep house club jams with a smattering of soulful, MPC style beat workouts. There's naturally little in the way of flabby filler, just a wealth of good grooves heavily influenced by soul, jazz and disco. Highlights include the Theo Parrish/Andres style jazzy deep house of "Look At Me Or I'll Steal Your Eyes", the head-nodding hip-hop soul of "Kickflippin' That Stuff" and the full-throttle disco-house of "Ivoire".

Review: Flexing the likes of G13, Multi Function, Cre8 and Dub Damage between them all, rising riff-wizards Filthy Habits and Jeopardize collide for the first time on Heist's Calypso with six outstanding jams that cross the board into all corners; "Widowmaker" is all about the dagger-like riffs, "Chillum Riddim" hits with a jungle edge due to its heaving ragga call to action, "Infiltrators" rolls with an electrified buzz, "Black Widow" wobbles and scorches in equal measure while the dense, groaning basses on "Respawn" drag us all back down into the swamp where we all belong. Finally we have "Nothing To Lose" where a plucked one note bassline hammers a stern message beneath some star-lit euphoric synth textures. Time to say goodbye to the wife!

Review: Almost four years have passed since Survival & Script first got together and the beats continue to keep flowing at a staggeringly consistent and a-class rate. Capturing the raw, rolling essence of drum & bass with every production, here are four more examples of their on-pointness: "Twisted" is a tunnelling slab of 1999 with a bassline that purrs from here to Omicron Persei-8, "Break It" is straight up tribal funk while "Native Girl" is a shaker-rattled roller with beautifully alluring vocal textures. Finally "Wake Up" bids us cheerio with a twisted two-step and a rampant technoid slap. Scarred for life.
