Review: The don Randall continues to smash things to "Pieces".... 16 tracks of serious rolled-out dark groove soul, it's nothing but heads down grit and uncompromised creativity with every track playing the consummate role of lead player; T>I's soul-shaking hip-twister "All I Do", Benny L's epic groaning yes-fest "Dr No", Vapour's sci-fi drama stepper "Looking Back", Trex's cosmic alien lullaby "Short Story" are just some of the highlights as we roll deep to the very end as Seba blesses the collection with a superlative re-touch on Randall, Goldie and Dego's seminal, scene-shaping bomb from 93 "The R". Randall... Still doin' it after all these years. Essential for all drum & bass heads.

Review: Souper douper danger: Serum takes the controls for his label's second release with three more killer jams. "Earth Rot" pings and zips with a high frequency metallic rubber ball bassline while "Ripped Open" lives up to its name tears us all a new one as it stabs hard with a Mampi-style sense of focus and drama. Finally "Pulse-S" represents Serum's more leftfield sense of funk with a tin-of-bees bass buzz that wobbles raffishly off the kicks. Yet another soup filled with at least three of your five a day, once again Serum smashes it in his own unique way.

Review: They're back! Following a year or so of bookings, Sub Zero and Original Sin's legendary partnership Generation Dub comes correct with two massive back-breaking productions. "Back In Business" says it all. Having been on dubplate with only these guys and Hype to play for several years, its wily riff and chop-burning bass are now available for all of us and the world is better place. "Ya Tink Ya Bad", one of their most revolutionary cuts from 2005, also gets a muscular G Dub 2017 reboot. Massive in every direction.

Review: This EP draws a lot of influence from the noisy modern day jump up, but it's got a groove to it, making it seem more distinguished and grown up. 'Lose Your mind' is a little dark stepper, its rumbling sub is understated and leaves room for the robotic melody. "No Trouble' has a very distinct LLD feeling to it, as does 'Rizla'. 'Revive' is based around very simple drum pattern and like the other tracks has an open vibe to the soundscape, the main melodic synths here are what makes the track special as they change pitch the odd sound provided a great chance to buss a bass face.

Review: Over the years the Midlands duo, Filthy Habits have built a strong and steady following, predominantly revered for their exciting DJ sets the lads promotions are seeing some love on the floor too and this EP shows why This is some shoe throwing shiz right here. 'Abandoned' is as high octane as they come, packed with jump up signatures it's fast and fun. What more do you want? 'The Calling' is another floor destroyer which slots into the noisy jump up box, with its disgustingly low sub and its dog capturing high hook. It also has so creepy critter like samples that we're more used to hearing in dark dubstep, which brings an interesting twist to the track.

Review: Two and a half years deep into their dark star safari Sub-Liminal continue to shred up the dance with a crack team of heavy bass innovators. Bass riffs galore and aesthetics so unforgiving, every track is tailored for the most underground floor... The worming low-end mashery of Too Greezey's "Modulation", Leaf's oddball drum funk and melting trumpets on "Shoot Off", Warhead's brutal technoid mutations on "A'Gwarn" and Tyrant's absolutely annihilating "Nuclear Bomb" are just four of the 14 high level bangers on display here. There's nothing subliminal about the message on this one: not picking up on this is a criminal offence.

Review: Time to get those fingers green once again as Leaf fires off the second part to his "Pick N Mix" series. Once again, it's an all-out assault of skanks, rasps and gnarly gurning dynamics that don't just make a crowd dance but electrify it. With its excellent vocal sample and potty bass "Jah" is the definition of 'fire' and DJs should call the local fire brigade before planning on dropping it, "Riddim" groans under the bass pressure before twisting you with an array of percussive elements, "Get Down" shows Leaf at his more stripped back, steppy and crispy, "Tosh" pays homage to the don with a block-snare bashment serenade while "Inner Connected" reminds us of Leaf's more soulful side. Job done... Just like any good pick n' mix, all flavours are covered - and every single one of them is sweet.

Review: Wonkadelic' is just so bouncy, and yeah, you guessed right... its wonky! It will have you jumping around the dance like a snapback wearing kangaroo, with one leg. The track ticks of the trio of LDD staples; weird vox, check, disgustingly low sub, check and of course our favourite, pneumatic drill and tool kit sample pack, big fat check. 'Illusion' is screwface inducing business. It's been doing the rounds this summer, being dropped in neuro and dancefloor sets as well as the usual jump up dances. A pretty standard beat pattern leaves space for the long running, insanely intense body of the track. You can't miss it.

Review: Brazilian OG Patife took a few years off around the late 2000s but was wooed back to the game with a chance visit to Sun And Bass, one of the genre's most important and beautiful annual events. Inspired, this is his homage, an almost fully Brazilian powered soulful escapade that taps deep into one of V's most famous sounds and histories. From Patife and Vangeliez's dream-weaving shakedown "Flying High" to ArpXP & Level 2's breath-taking stepper "You" via Drumagick's string-stumming sunset session and Simplification & Translate's carnival-melting euphoria piece "Samba Tonight" and beyond; this is 14 slices of brand new Brazilian magic curated and delivered by two of the most authentic sources possible.

Review: Shady power moves from Kanine: Having already taken us "Into The Dark" on Twisted Beatz earlier this year, now he's trapping us in "The Shadows" and there's no way possible way to escape. Not that you'd want to escape, mind; with its orchestrated samples and drop into a dual-textured bassline that both groans and purrs, "The Shadows" has some of the best views of the dancefloor you'll ever get. "Invincible" holds us hostage even more with more of a classic brittle Belgian-sounding roughness to its grotty Q&A riff. Both kill it in two exceptional ways... You gonna bark all day little doggy?

Review: A year has passed since Voltage took us for a "Ruby" on Logan D's Low Down Deep. During that time he's verified himself as a roller king and teamed up with Serum to get souped up and waggle his fat cobra in our faces. Now he's back with more high grade strains and they're all as smelly and potent as the next. "Sticky Vicky" is all about the staccato sandpaper harmonics, "Barbera" does this cool Q&A between higher and lower textures before dropping into a dreamy rave breakdown, "Labrynth" is all about the squelching farty off-beat bass funk while "Boy" shuts us down with weirded-out scary reverse bassline twistery. White widow... guaranteed to spark up the dance!

Review: Fresh from waggling his snake around the gaff, DJ Limited returns with two more phenomenal slabs of riffy gritty bass funk. "Smoke 'Em Out" is a fat 20 skinner with rolling Hazard-style drums and a bassline so bulbous and vital you'd swear it was on its third trimester and about to give birth to septuplets. "Ain't No Love", meanwhile, flexes a classic sample around a savage distorted bass drop before opening up the strings and vocals over the beats. Big up the double negative crew - there's plenty of love around here for DJ Limited!

Delivered over a year after their walloping "WTF" project, the seven-track stack brings everyone up to speed. Highlights include the tongue-in-cheek sampleplay and groove ricochets of "Cowbell", the undulating tech grizzles and electric current bassline of the title track, the gnarled-out halftime toxic funker "Accents" with man-of-the-moment Shield and the jumpy dynamics and sudden eastern switches of "Badboy". Review: Ruffneck Ting has been a prominent name in jungle for the over 20 years, starting life as a night in Bristol in 1993 before morphing into a label in recent years. So it's fair to say these guys know good jungle and, if they put out an extra large EP, we should be listening. Standing out as one of the highlights is 'Buju' with it's slow, low sub. We're also feeling 'Bad Boys' which blends tight, rolling amens with weird sci-fi synths and shorts shots of dirty bass, perfect for the dance. The title track 'Untouchable' combines classic claps, and lasers, with more modern effects and a killer bouncing base.

Bonafide soul badness, everything about this record is bliss as both the iconic vocalists harmonise with total messages of unity. "We Are The People" is almost gospel in its intentions while "Midnite Classic" takes us a little deeper into the night with more of Break's classic roughhouse funk foundation. Fresh from soundtracking many of Sun & Bass's parties this year, this is now yours forever. Give it to the people!

Weird and wonderful just how we like it, the sounds in 'Brain Map' are just so different, it's like a dozen differently pitched tiny springs are uncoiling and pinging all over the dance, and its trippy A.F

Review: Bcee hits album number four and we have many people to thank for... The result of a crowd-funding mission (in order to save label funds for his artists), this was made under more pressure and motivation than any of his previous LPs put together. And you can really feel this energy and focus from the opening salvo of vocal soul cuts "Surfacing" and "Little Bird". Much deeper into the document we dive for the densely textured jazz flurries of "Had It All" (with Logistics), soulful song strength of the Riya-fronted title track and much darker sounds such as the knee-sweeping "Dead Reckoning" and the piano-slapping jungle homage "Keep Moving On". And these are just a small handful of highlights. Bcee has yet to deliver a bad album but this takes his repertoire, energy and sense of focus to a whole new level.

Review: Fresh from flexing the iconic vocals of David Boomah, Dub Shotta bossman (and all-round G in general) Benny Page now locks horns with one of the most distinctive and hype-raising Jamaican MCs in the game $pyda. Wrapping his dancehall damage harmonies to "Gangsta", this is nothing short of an anthem thanks to its sing-along feels, a gut-punching hook and raw energy that will pop any rave into pieces. With its rifle riff, sandpaper harmonics and higher-end tones "Flava" takes us round the back for something a little more illicit and intoxicating. Both absolutely smash the place.

Review: In 2015 DJ Harvey made his hugely anticipated return to Ibiza and made Pikes the home for his Mercury Rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real Ibiza, the incredible history of the hotel (aka The Chelsea of Ibiza) and a genuine love for music. This Balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by DJ Harvey has seen Mercury Rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade. The next step in the story sees him launch Pikes Records - the first record label founded by Pikes owners and Ibiza Rocks co-founders Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle. From his own Locussolus project's slow burner "Next To You" (Marcy Rising edit), to fellow London disco heroes Idjut Boys who serve up "One For Kenny" where they get really deep. There's also party favourite Gatto Fritto with "Invisible College" and Eric 'Dr. Dunks' Duncan, on form as always, with Chris Munoz on the scorcher "Zona De Perigo".

Review: Man of the moment Benny L has had an incredible rise over the last two years, guided and nurtured by Ram Trilogist and Audioporn founder Shimon, Benny's groaning, rumbling basslines have become a benchmark that sit right up there with Serum and Voltage as the best in the contemporary game. Case in point: "Low Blow", a tune that's been unavoidable at festivals throughout the summer and famously made Goldie pull the best bass faces the Mixmag live stream has ever seen. It's backed by three other crucial rollers: the iced-out Headz homage "Route Zero", the thunder-striking drum-shattering "Hold It Down" and the whirlwind sense-zapper "Home." Four absolutely crucial cuts from one of this year's most essential rising drum & bass stars.

Review: If Serum's new label Souped Up was an actual soup what flavour would it be? A minestrone perhaps? Full of chewy textures and a wholesomeness that instantly hits the heart. How about a mulligatawny, all hot and rich? Or maybe a classic oxtail? Intense and beefy. Whatever flavour you can compare it to, like all soups, it does what it says on the tin and it's best served piping hot. Here are two more cases in point Serum and fellow roller king Voltage; the rocket-launching Charge-like chiselled riff on "Mission Control" and the slinky jungle stepper which nods at Full Cycle sound with its mild wafts of jazziness, loose drums and continuous bass mutations. Chewy, wholesome, hot, rich, intense and beefy: Souped Up is every drum & bass flavour right now... Get it inside you!

Review: My Nu Leng are the guys right now, it doesn't matter what bass genre you reside in, everyone respects them. Since the rumours of the release started circulating it's has been something the dnb family have been looking forward to, and as the tracks started to surface there have been rumblings on the forums that this is one of Shogun's best releases for some time, we'll let you judge that for yourselves. 'The Terrace' see the lads join forces with the hugely talented SpectraSoul and the result is unsurprisingly a tough and techy, half time work of art. Partnering with label boss Friction sees a more dancefloor led direction with a thundering mutated sub at the helm, surrounded by crashing drums and catchy vocal. The lead track 'Portal' is a hard hitting and a complete smasher, with killer drones and well-crafted drum patterns, it's a big one. But our favourite track of the EP has to be 'Senses' for a start Iyamah's voice is stunning, but secondly it's just a perfect balance of soft, melodic blissfulness and hard, aggressive grit.

Review: The long awaited, self titled debut album from Irish power duo Bicep is the perfect summation of their career to date. Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson have created a singular and unique album, founded on the blueprint of classic house, techno, electro and Italo disco: but all the time bearing their unique signature. The duo felt that UK institution Ninja Tune was a perfect fit for them and gave them the total freedom to express themselves artistically, describing the label's broad scope that has, in turn, helped them to thrive. They display a strong technicality and a desire to experiment, but still with a melodic touch which runs throughout the entire record. It is this approach to creativity which has allowed Bicep to establish a unique position in the industry, in the face of a crowded global dance stage.

Review: He's back! One of Full Cycle's most high profile new family members returns with his largest EP to date. "The Grand Chapter" leads with an army of happy-slapping breaks and a bassline that taps deep into the Bristol psyche. Elsewhere "Mijushen Style" looks east for inspiration as an oriental intro hurls us face first into a low-end swamp, "Don't Tell Mom" rides bareback on a rolling drumset while a bassline switches in a manner so deviant it should come with an 18 certificate, "Cold Rock Stuff" is a loose-limbed heads-down roller while "Mushrooms" promises to trip you out with its wild drum science and technoid sense of space. Trust us, these jams are so fresh there's no chance of history repeating here (not sorry!)

Review: Got some shoes? Good. Got some hands? Good. Now what we need you to do is use your hands to remove your shoes and throw them directly at Leaf when you see him. Tunes as outrageously dope as these deserve nothing less. "Bumbaclart" is a severe shredder that threatens to leave you skinless, "Wu Style" pays homage to the clan in the fugliest, most toxic way possible, "Rollz" is a space-aged stepper with more tech grease than a rave in a bakery while "Hard To Find" takes the hazy dulcets of Alice Winzar and twists them through the future machine to show you how bleak reality might become if mankind continues being idiots. Shoes off, all off.

Review: Over a year in the making, Southampton's finest Gerra & Stone break their previous "Unbreakable" silence (not sorry) with this immaculate album. A proper body of work, the depth and detail at play here is instant thanks to the alluring ambient intro "Ambivalence" before the duo take us deeper and deeper down the drum & bass rabbit hole. Riddled with touching and gully moments alike, highlights include the lilting piano and breathy textures of "Time Not Wasted", the sunset soul of "On The Outside" and blunt-nosed grit of "When I Fall", the supreme Visionobi-front "Predator" and the melted steel funk of "Blank". 15 tracks deep; this isn't just a debut album, it's a serious statement of intent.

Review: This is a nice collection of tight rollers, which will work across a variety of floors. Our favourite track of the release has got to be 'Right In Front Of You' with is twisted, itchy and glitchy vibe, the vocal shines stunningly bright against a dark and mutated soundscape. Classic vocals seem to be a theme of this release, amongst the crashing drums and slowed sax of 'Back To Reality' we hear the ever recognisable refrain from Soul II Soul's 'Back To Life'. 'Pump This Party' is another highlight of the EP following suit with another catchy and widely recognisable vocal sample.

Review: KiNK's taster for his up and coming album on Running Back is here. We don't know if the title is inspired by the Scottish town that techno larrikins Clouds are from, or the sleepy mining town in Western Australia: it's anyone's guess! The Bulgarian hardware maverick brings us some funked up disco loops, reminiscent of DJ Sneak's Sneaky Trax imprint back in the day. "Perth" is a prime example of his unstoppable knack for good times. Taken from the new Playground LP, the three versions here are dripping with grease. Split between the original, a chord mix (which is brooding and epic) and a funky beat version full of sultry latin percussion: it's all you ever wanted from a single. Perfect house music for techno DJs and techno music for disco DJs.

Review: Swiss mandem Qbig & Zenith B have undergone a total re-focus and re-branding to return as QZB. And this heavyweight, multi-flavoured beast is this is their crucial opening statement. Covering more ground than they have in the past, but all with a consistent signature that's both powerful and stark, across the EP we're treated to space-age minimal rollers ("WYGD" and "Valhalla"), ghetto-busting footwork funk ("Apollo"), gritty riff steppery ("Turning Point") and sublime soul-burning halftime ("Revenant") Make no mistakes: the Basel boys have just upped several gears... This should not be slept on.

Review: Wooiii get your screwfaces and gun fingers ready, loud, aggressive and full of fun, this entire EP encapsulates everything good jump up should be. 'Truth' has a collection of sounds which make it sound incredibly important and almost regal. 'Anything You Say Kid' is an absolute ba-hanger full of weird sci-fi, plinky plunky sounds, if very different to your usual. With anticipation building, horror show worthy glimmer's before plummeting in to dark swaths of pulsating lasers, we know we really are 'In a Special Kind of Space'. 'Degrade' walks us into a more deep and techy realm, with filthy distortion and metallic sounds.

Review: SBM is a new collaboration between Philpot co-founder Micahel Baumann (AKA Soulphiction) and the mysterious Blunted Monkz (an artist who has made just a handful of appearances on EPs and compilations since debuting in 2011). Happily, the quality threshold remains high throughout. Opener "Gotta Have It" sets the tone, serving up a rolling deep house cut built around low-slung dub disco bass, echoing vocal samples and layered percussion. "Tripolis Jam" is an even sweatier and more intensely percussive affair, with restless cowbells and heavier drum hits working in unison with a fuzzy, punk-funk bassline. Finally, they unveil the EP's undisputed banger, "Criticize", a woozy but energy-packed, jazzy deep house jam featuring vocal snippets from the Alexander O'Neal classic of the same name.

Review: Following "Action" and "Before The Storm", System returns with an EP so fat it's borderline album material. Loaded with his signature angular, hooky riffs and devilish energy, bangers hang from every inch of the release rafters. Highlights include "Listen" which fuses church-like synth blasts with an infectious Clipz-like rolling high end bass riff, the broken glass hook on "Program Failure", the twisted Q&A of "Extra Decibel". Lyptikal's remix of "Listen" commands serious attention with its Taxman-style bassline, too. Do as the men say... Listen!

Rather than a frolic in a field of strawberry fields, the title track is a little more intense with its bad trip bass blaring with horn-like menace. Deeper into the trip we flex as K-Motionz & Danger do the rusty robot on "Eyespy", Ironlung takes us all for the fools that we are, LBS twists up the styles with a neuro intro and jump-up drop on the battle-ready "Special Forces" and K-Motionz gets his angular grit on with "Orbital". There's no comedown from this.

Review: The second part of Margaman's broadsword, full-spectrum EP doublet on Ray Keith's still-vital Dread, here we're treated to the darker side of his true inner spirit as we batter our way through the shadows; the murky grimey halftime rolls of "Clip Off Your Wings", the Digital-style wall of sound "I Got A Question For Ya", the dancehall jungle groaner "Pis Pon Dem", the soaring roller "Finesse", the classic rave synths and Full Cycle-flavoured drum slap and tickle and the ludicrously low and rumbling "So Heavy"... Each track reminding us why he's become a go-to producer for some of the most important foundation DJs of the genre. Timeless heaviness.

Review: Time for a freshness flex: Shogun return to their new and rising talent series Point Of Origin and once again it's a big deal with 15 crucial cuts from 20 outstanding and future-shaping artists; from the already established and massively respected such as Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon, who follow up last year's massive "Take My Breath Away" with the deep space slinker "Burning", and Paul SG with his decidedly wobbled-out drumstick snapping roller "Holy Moly" right the way through to exciting new energies in the dance like Phaction, with his ghostly-vocalled soul-out "Distant Lovers" and Neve & Crimson's beautifully blue-notated jazz drum dark-out "Solar Rain" and so many stunning cuts in between (Mitekiss, Gerra & Stone, Was A Be, Macca & Loz Contreras, the list goes on) this is Shogun at its most exciting and forward-thinking.

Review: All Low Down Deep releases are important but this one is especially significant as Logan D unleashes the first of what is likely to be a mountain of unreleased beats by the sorely missed Dominator who sadly passed away on June 8 this year. Both remixes here have Dom and Logan's stamp slashed throughout; Pleasure's 2014 track from The Firm album sees a ramp up in bite and a much more demonic wolf-like bark while "Flight 33" gets a complete tear-down and rebuild with much more brutal, low-swung bassline. The results speak for themselves. RIP Dom.

Review: Birmingham's Jinx hits hard and fast once again. This time with his debut on the fittingly titled Pure Vibez. Busta weighs in for the opening track; a fully cycled jazz-tinged MC-led tear-up "All Of Nothing". Deeper into the EP we ride for the elastic bass funk steps of "Break It Down", the skank-blasted slammer "Hot Pepper", the filtered cuts and grainy soul of "Love Like This", the all-out squelch bass weirdness of "Fall Out" and the subversive star-lit sub-struck danger jam "Soul Thing". Following previous heavyweight EPs on Hocus Pocus and Ruffneck Ting, Jinx has properly smashed this year. Don't miss out.

Review: Since going solo last year, former Onra collaborator Byron Blaylock has yet to put a foot wrong. Each successive EP has brought with it a swathe of killer new jams straddling the blurred lines between soul, jazz, hip-hop, deep house and jazz-funk. There's more of the same on Leaving This Planet, the Alabama-raised producer's first EP for the mighty Eglo. So while opener "Song for a Friend" is a superior, jazz-flecked deep house bumper smothered in killer electric piano solos, the track that follows, "Mind, Body & Soul" is a squelchy tech-jazz masterpiece. It's the same story on the flip, as floor-friendly jazz-breaks ("Blow Your Mind") make way for a heady trip into intergalactic jazz-funk territory ("SSDP"). As the worn-out old saying goes, this is "all killer, no filler".

Review: Essex boy EGO TRIPPIN is jump up's man of the moment he's tracks have been destroying floors for a hot sec and now he's unleashing those VIP's we've been hearing for months. As with all VIPs the tracks stay true to originals with tiny tweaks. 'Filthy Criminals' see's extra layers added to the main melody at different pitches, bringing new textures to the track, and the odd little skip giving illusions of double drops. While 'Two Types' echoes and prolongs, if you're a fan of the first two this is a no brainer.

Review: Shogun soul soldiers Technimatic unleash the parts to some of their best tracks and share them with kindred rolling spirits. The results speak for themselves... Break adds a little dark Brizzle magic to the lads' already on-point west country homage, LSB flips "Parallel" into a seven minute rising feels-lifter while Perez licks up a little switch in the kicks on the bluesy Jono McCleery-fronted "Hold On A While" and Fracture tears "Parallels" a new one with his cutty/shutty break-rattling refix. Complete with two heavy VIPs from Technimatic themselves on red marbled vinyl and you've got yourself a winner.

Review: Having delivered their De-Evolution album over the course of three EPs over the last year, New Zealand's gnarliest bass slappers The Upbeats have now asked some of their mates for the all essential revisions. And they haven't gone in half measures as Malux, Rockwell, Annix, Agressor Bunx, Black Sun Empire, Memtrix and Emperor all deliver fresh chapters.... Empire's subversion of the depths of "Prism", the overwhelming emotional rush on Memtrix's take on "Say Go" and BSE's almighty thrashes and bashes on "DOOM" are just three examples of how epic these versions are.

Review: Animated amen wrestling of the highest order: Kartoon return to Deep In The Jungle with six stone cold slammers that flex back to their earliest releases. "Fire Inna Jungle" takes a classic vocal and brings it kicking into 17 while the VIP of their first single in 2014 "Soundboy Surrender" knocks spots off the original with pure roller power. Deeper into the jungle we swathe for the stop/start snare-rattler "Check It", the surging synth hook hedonism of "Big N Bad" and a cheeky blast back to 16 for the breath-taking brock out "Reece Piece". Not enough bangerism for you greedy junglists? Jump straight on the label boss's rub of hazy hellraiser "Wake & Bake". Spark up!
