The Chronic / Straight Up
The Chronic - (4:08) 175 BPM Hot
Straight Up - (4:15) 175 BPM
Review: Bladerunner back on Philly Blunt baby! You already know this one is going to be special. Two massive cuts laced with big V funk and exciting, unpredictable twists, 'The Chronic' is an immense piece of work that's just as much disco as it is jungle thanks to some lavish synth blasts mid-way. 'Straight Up' goes for something even ruffer as the main bassline revs up a storm like a can of coke on your bike's back tire. Grizzly ain't even the word, this is savage. Go on Bladerunner!

Review: Man like Kublai returns to Total Science's label with some of his darkest, dankest, dirtiest designs to date. 'Big Talk' takes the lead with a big old b2b2b in the studio as Kubbie, TS and Minor Forms all get mucky in the action. Elsewhere 'The Imposter' goes for a classic wormy bassline tension, 'Trippin' is pure filth laced over scattershot drums (with more filth thrown in for good measure) while 'Sullied' closes the EP on a pranged out drone tone. Exceptional drum & bass craft here.

Good Luck (Remixes)
Good Luck (Circadian remix) - (3:32) 174 BPM Hot
Good Luck (IYRE remix) - (3:54) 174 BPM
Review: 20 years old this summer! Basement Jaxx's anthemic string-drench good riddance anthem 'Good Luck' gets two incredible drum & bass remixes on Friction's Elevate right here. First is Circadian who continues to smash things up post Prototypes with this wild dancefloor turbo boost. Think Breakbeat Kaos with added diesel power, it's an absolute monster. Sri Lanka's IYRE meanwhile brings more of a housey type of touch with big filtered chords and a rising sense of momentum that pays off more and more with every 16. Good vibes.

Review: The legendary DJ Hybrid is back in business with another top quality collection, unloading four garage-inspired bumpers on this brand new EP. The title track 'Flex Ya Chest' takes centre stage from the off, exploring old school garage vocal overlays and hard hitting sublines to kick the EP off in serious style. Next, a 140 VIP mix of 'Big Four Five', utilising a hard hitting vocal line atop a bed of quivering LFO lines and choppy drum textures, before the super smooth sub notation of 'All For You' gives us another thunderous display in close pursuit. Finally, 'Area Code' ups the pace significantly with a dancefloor-ready rumbler, focussing on fidgeting synth lines and smooth pads to give us a slightly alternative closer.

Review: Montenegro-based rework maestro Mitiko (real name Sasha Mitich) has been a busy boy this year, with this EP-turned-mini album marking his sixth missive of 2024 to date. There's plenty to get the blood pumping and the feet moving across the seven tracks on show, from the lightly housed up vocal disco rush of 'Along With You' and the filter-sporting Afro-disco joy of 'Fungi Mama', to the slow-motion disco-funk headiness of 'Ghost' and the build-and-release excellence of the stomping, string-laden peak-time disco of 'Peak At You'. Those seeking mid-tempo thrills are catered for via 'Get Up and Boogie', while 'Latin Hustle' is a memorable revision of a Spanish language dancefloor gem.

Review: 2024 was always going to be a year of surprises, and the latest release on Rekids is testament to that. Man Power hooks up with the Paris-based Louisahhh for an unexpected anthem in waiting. The title track is an expansive deep house track. At its heart is a pulsating bass combined with Louisahhh's freeform narrative about the state of the world. As befits such a modern classic, Rekids has commissioned Deetron to deliver three remixes. The dub version is a joyous UR-style deep techno version, while the main version follows a similar trajectory, powered by thunder claps and outer space tones. Keeping the audience guessing, Deetron also delivers a 'Drum & Bass' version that focuses on high-paced techno, while the 'Bleep Tool' ends the release to the sound of glistening tonal bliss.

Decon - "So Simple" - (4:11) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Paul SG's soulful stable just keeps on serving up the good stuff as two long time members of the Jazzsticks crew roll up with two no-nonsense dancefloor gems. Carter dusts off his keys and trumpet for a silky smooth strut into sunset on 'Outlined' while Decon takes things back to darker, stripped-back ravey edge with some classic stabs and vocal samples on 'So Simple'. Two very different vibes for two very different times of the night; one crucial single. Big up the Jazzsticks massive.

Review: As always, the Deep, Dark & Dangerous crew are out in full force with this latest drop, welcoming the ever-ready sounds of Isded inside for four swampy stompers, destined to set dances alight in the murkiest of settings. We open up with the haunted LFO slams of 'Dig It', a super potent roller that leads us nicely into the hypnotic sub designs of the title track 'Swang', setting the tone nicely across the first half of the EP. from here, thing get even more minimal as the creeping melodies and clunky percussive pips of 'El Affair' give us another smokey backdrop to admire, before the hyper-wonky synth work of 'Shitfire' closes off the EP with a blast. Another collection of heaters for the DD&D crew.

Arkum (Remaster) - (7:09) 123 BPM

Review: Nick Curly showcases his mastery of the underground house scene with the "Come Right Back" EP, released through Cécille Records! Hailing from Mannheim, Germany, Curly's influence spans two decades, with his imprint 8bit shaping the city's distinct sound. "Come Right Back" kicks off the EP with Curly's trademark swinging drum groove, fused with a filtered disco loop and choppy stabs, crafting a dance floor-focused workout. On "Arkum", Curly delves into deeper, darker realms, blending organic percussion and gritty bass stabs with tension-building strings and spoken word vocal chops, resulting in a loop-driven, subtly unfurling peak-time tool with its subtle intricacies.

Drummer's Dance - (5:36) 120 BPM Hot
Review: For the latest missive on his long-running Internasjonal imprint, Norse disco don Prins Thomas has turned to first-time collaborators SONNS (AKA South Korea-based Frenchman Timothee Victorri) and Mexcian maverick Inigo Vontier, a producer renowned for the psychedelic nature of his dancefloor workouts. The headline attraction is arguably title tracl 'Mascara De Tigre', a pleasingly percussive, offbeat and mind-mangling affair that wraps hazy piano motifs, trippy electronics and tactile vocal samples around an unusual but addictive beat. Prins Thomas remixes, giving the track a sleazy Italo disco-meets-weirdo house flex, before the pair offer up two more tracks: the acid-flecked nu-disco shuffle of 'Dreamers' and the post punk-goes-dark disco flex of 'Drummers Dance'.

Review: After a flurry of activity in 2023 for Suara, Sleaze and Planet Rhythm, long-established producer Axel Karakasis returns to his own imprint with Source Of Data. Fans of tough, lean techno will find much to love here, particularly "Objective", with its combination of tight claps and powerful, looped bass. But the release also yields surprises by following other paths: "Asphalt" sees Karakasis venture down a Millsian route, guided by dense, visceral kicks and an atmospheric undercurrent. On "Inner Voice" he also pursues a more unconventional approach. While the track is based on tough kicks and a cacophony of nagging percussion, it is also swathed in swirling atmospheric synths.

The Breeze (original mix) - (7:54) 124 BPM
Review: Kerri Chandler continues to mine the untapped depths of his musical vaults and here serves up a third dose of previously unreleased gems. Chandler first offers up 'Let It (Give Me Back My Love)', a typically joyful, hip-swinging and effortlessly groovy chunk of vocal deep house featuring Abbie Lee, before reaching for fluid piano motifs, super-soulful male vocals (possibly his own) and Kenny Dope style broken house beats on 'Another Dawn'. 'The Bassline (Kerri's Dark Mix)' is a moody, percussive and infectious slab of early morning house, while 'The Breeze (Original Mix)' is a drum machine driven box jam that deftly showcases Chandler's immense skill as a beat programmer.

Review: Foundation Audio have once again emerged with an absolute firecracker of release on their hands here, welcoming the enigmatic production wizardry of Teffa to the table with four gorgeous stepping originals. Opening up with the glitchy synth work and crunchy drum arrangements of the title track 'EOZ', the bar is set very high from the jump, being closely followed by 'Come In And Do Not Be Shy', a much swampier affair, jam-packed with bulbous bass action. From here, the hard hitting percussive punches and more subtle LFO action of 'G Wagon' roll into play, before the more 2-step inspired grooves and warbling bass notation of 'Flash' closes us off in style.

Review: NYC combo 79.5 are, like Midnight Magic and Escort before them, a live outfit whose trademark sound and output is shaped by the rich musical history of the city they call home. That superb sound was outlined on last year's eponymous debut album, tracks from which appear in remixed form on this must-check EP. There are two takes on previous single 'Feel Like Dancin': an extended deep house take by Malik Hendricks with added Afro-house percussion, and an impressive low-tempo chugger titled the 'Generalisation Dub'. 'B.D.F.Q' also comes in two contrasting variations: the spacey electro-meets-ghetto-house flex of the Jubilee Remix, and an extended version of FSQ's Midnight Magic style neo-disco interpretation. A percussive and joyous J Kriv house revision of 'Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way' completes a fine package.

Review: Shabi's DOBRO jams continue with Happy Jams that are undeniably exactly that, much what these times need. Pushing a classic house tip with good vibes pads, sample selections, loops and tricks, Shabi gets '90s old school and French touch in his kicking title track. "Let's Talk Dancin'" offers some similar tricks, holding down a groove with a vocal hook to boot, while "I Feel It Comin'" does something some more soul and R&B. "Disco Party" throws down some classic percussion and a walking bassline while "C'mon Let's Fly" may as well be Fred Falke back in the mix. French house style!

Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.

Collaborating with Theo Kottis and Kassian for remixes on his own label (Last Night On Earth ), Sasha continues to redefine the boundaries of sonic intrepidation. The original track is a deeper journey, meticulously crafted with evolving synth layers and hypnotic drum patterns that culminate in a euphoric breakdown. Theo Kottis injects his remix with dynamic energy, featuring tech-leaning drums and glitchy textures for peak dance floor moments. Kassian's rendition then offers a quicker pace, blending funk-infused drums with soaring synth tension, promising to transport listeners yet more electronic bliss fit for a final night on this world. Review: Fresh from outings on 8Bit and Dirtybird, Audiojack return to the label they established way back in 2010, Gruuv. In keeping with the Yorkshire-raised duo's outings on the imprint, it's a tightly focused and club ready two-tracker. First up is 'Somebody', a rumbling, body-moving slab of 1997 speed garage revivalism - all Armand Van Helden 'dark garage' bass, dark synth strings, echoing vocal snippets and chunky house drums - which sounds like a genuine peak-time anthem in the making. They continue the "arms aloft" vibes on the similarly large title track, 'Release Yourself', which mixes vintage UK garage influences with nods to contemporaneous big room NYC house sounds.

Formula - (5:22) 144 BPM
Review: Veteran producer Dolby D teams up with emerging artist MarAxe for a release that is anything but formulaic. "Subdue" is set to a high pace -one that the rest of the EP emulates. However, despite the fast tempo, its rhythm is lithe, with subtle filtered builds combined with dense percussion. "Expel" is also powered by a relentless groove and percussive elements. On this occasion, the percussion alternates between delicate shards and powerful snare rolls that provide the back drop for a ponderous vocal sample. The title track maintains this fast tempo, but the sound takes a darker turn. Sheet metal riffs are fused with rattling hi hats , making for a furious finale.

Review: Like previous instalments, the twelfth Senso Sounds split release delivers fresh techno from some of the scene's most talented new producers. Sinisa Tamamovic's "Sand" is a prime example of this innovation, as gritty analogue textures are teased out over dense kicks and steely hi hats. Neither Nor's "Mess" is powered by a similar aesthetic. At the heart of the arrangement is a dense, brooding bass, with mysterious tones unfolding against this back drop. Fabrication's "Blotter Spotter" doesn't deviate from the overall mood, but it is more club focused. Led by a warbling acid bass and jittery percussion, it completes this adventurous release.

This time around, DJ Pooch is on hand to unleash four high energy creations, opening with the 2023 mix of 'Mind, Body & Soul', a thumping, carnival ready ramp up that focuses both on gritty bass notation and eerie vocal overlays, before 'Rush On Me' takes a classic 'Dibby Dibby Sound' vocal and lets it loose over an old school hardcore arrangement. Next up, 'I Need U' unloads a more old school feel, focussing on organic drum sounds and euphoric synth lines, before the chirpy chord progressions and acidic basslines of 'Hypnotising' close us off with a bang.

We begin with the slumberous rhythmic twists and packed out sub sections of 'Hunting Season', a technophone's nightmare, stuffed to the brim with bleeps and crashes. Review: Twenty-three years since he initially released Dispatches on his own Geophone imprint, Mike Parker's debut album gets a timely reissue on Field. Listening to his debut album is a reminder of how it remains the corner stone for much contemporary techno. Parker's use of sparse rhythms is audible throughout, as is the cavernous, at times all-encompassing sound scapes he designed. While there are references to some previous techno canons - a hint of Plastikman acid in places, or echoes of Sahko's repetition - Dispatches really is in a field of its own. That it manages to still sound not just relevant but also revelatory is testament to Parker's unique talent.

Review: Running Back boss Gerd Janson has been a fan of Raphael Schon for some time. Last year, he reissued the German producer's 2021 breakthrough hit, 'Fiesta 2000', on the Misfit Melodies offshoot. Now he's gone further still, offering up an expansive EP of brand-new music by the producer, all of which is shot through with references to dance music's storied past. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the sparkling positivity of the 303 bass-powered 'Bearhit', the riff-happy retro-futurist smoothness of 'Do You Like That' - whose breakdowns and drops are suitably excitable - and the kaleidoscopic, near techno-tempo joy explosion that is 'Distant City Transport'. The more nu-disco and maximal house influenced 'Sometimes I Miss You' is also superb.

Together they serve up two tracks that draw heavily on 70s Afro-funk for inspiration, with 'Faith' coming with a slightly mellower remix courtesy of Medlar & Dele Sosimi while 'San Diago' gets two rerubs, with Rahaan giving the track a slightly jazzier, more leftfield makeover while Prins Thomas's Diskomix transforms it into a slab of percussive, slo-mo disco. Review: Next up on LDH, a shimmering nod to the more stripped back side of 140 & dubstep flavour as Slimy Ape touches down with a shimmering display of synthetic wonder across these chilling three originals. The title track 'Northern Winter' sets the tone perfectly, with icey LFO manoeuvres and minimal drum lines giving us a fabulous introduction. From here, a dive into deeper, gritter LFO expressions as 'Warehouse Rocker' gives us a pulsing crunch of original dubstep flavour, before the subtle dubwise chords and more system-inspired bass notation of 'Sound The Alarm' closes the EP off with a more old school feel. A very enjoyable selection!

Here he comes to Citizens Of Vice with three tracks of (mostly) heavily electronic nu disco, with the title track a jaunty, lolloping affair sporting some Daft Punk-esque guitar flourishes, 'Just Think About That Feeling' a slightly deeper, spacier number built for late-hours play, and 'At The Beach' the quirkiest and least synth-tastic cut of the three with its sampled seaside sounds, insistent hand percussion, Spanish guitars and kiddy vox.

'Hit The Tracks' features a very pop-oriented vocal from Sansy but also sports some excellent sax work, the Kria McKenzie-sporting 'This Feeling' has something of the lounge-y vibe of late 70s Brazilian disco but also comes accompanied by a significantly more house-ified remix from Birdee that for this reviewer is the standout track on the EP, while finally 'Dance' features Carla Sceno on mic duties and rocks crisp 4/4s and a fat funk bassline.

Review: French electronic duo Kimshies, comprised of Peo Watson and Mika Frojman, make a striking debut on Roam Recordings with their EP, End of Love. Known for their fusion of dark, gritty tones, the duo navigates through haunting melodies and intense sonic textures with finesse and grace. The title track, featuring S//Rose, immerses listeners in a raw, visceral take down, while "Spiders in My Head," enriched by CLO's vocals, maintains the EP's dark allure. With remixes by Moderna and Modular Project adding fresh perspectives, End of Love goes the distance.

Review: The Occupants series is a split release project from Science Cult, the label that artists like Carl Finlow, Cygnus and Umek's Zeta Reticula project all call home. This first volume covers electro, but in the broadest sense. Thee J Johanz' "Woodpecker" is an acid-fried break beat track. At the other end of the spectrum, Aura Nox's "Mutiny On The Voyage To Azimut" sees the Science Cult artist voyage to the sound's outer limits. Remaining in that space is Blixaboy's dub-tinged "Bushido Initiative". St. Theodore presents a more ominous sound on "No Future", an arrangement that is led by a punishing sub-bass, and for a pure futuristic hit, it is hard to better the skeletal rhythms of Arsonist Recorder's "Heat Seek".

The Rhythm (Cani remix) - (6:01) 130 BPM
The Rhythm (Factory Setup remix) - (6:40) 127 BPM Hot
Review: Nine months on from the release of the throbbing and pulsating 'Zombie Dance' on Permanent Vacation, Zombies in Miami return to their Creatures of the Night label - the Mexican duo's first appearance on the imprint since 2022's fine collaboration with Lauer, 'Michelada Brothers'. On 'The Rhythm', the duo takes a different tack, dispensing with nods to Italo-disco in favour of weighty tribal house beats (think late '90s Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia), restless electronic bass, echoing vocal snippets and mind-mangling effects. It's genuinely fantastic and comes backed with two tidy reworks: a pots-and-pans-percussion propelled dancefloor dub by Cani, and the sleazy, low slung and stretched-out 'Factory Setup' remix.

Where I Hide - (4:31) 120 BPM
Review: A typically varied three-tracker here from Flevans, whose output has spanned breaks, nu disco, soul and more. The EP opens with 'Dreamer', which brings the authentically 70s-sounding disco vibes. Next up is 'Carry Them', a sweeping, dramatic but hard-to-pigeonhole concoction made up mostly of breakbeats and delicate pianos that comes topped with a soulful male vocal. And then finally there's 'Where I Hide', which again has a piano front and centre but this time in much more sprightly fashion, accompanied by a female vocal and underpinned by a solid but unassuming 4/4 kick. 'Dreamer' takes the gold for yours truly.

This release introduces fresh perspectives from Balam, Tyu, Mufti, and Hermetics, each infusing the original tracks with their distinctive takes, introducing fresh approaches respectively. Balam kickstarts the compilation with a pulsating remix of acid-infused energy and trance elements, while Tyu's hypnotic rendition of "El Jockey "blends deep drums with psychedelic nuances. From Guadalajara, Mufti delivers a break-driven remix of "Cicatriz" while Argentinean artist Hermetics closes with a captivating version of "Sternana" - luring listeners in with its potent kick and entrancing vocals.

Falling - (5:29) 123 BPM Hot
Move - (5:44) 124 BPM
Review: This Falling EP, a collaboration between Adana Twins and Upercent on TAU, epitomises the seamless synergy between these seasoned artists, delivering a strong statement within the melodic techno domain. Featuring tracks "Falling" and "Move," the EP blends emotive vocals, pulsating basslines, and a refined mix of electronic elements that err toward the TAU sound. Adana Twins' dynamic range and Upercent's avant-garde soundscapes converge here at large, showcasing a deep emotional resonance and meticulous attention to sonic detail in the project. "Falling," the titular track, sets the tone with its undulating bassline and poignant male vocals, while "Move" offers a more urgent tempo and powerful kick drums, crafting a dance floor-ready anthem of romantic yearning.

Review: Amentec have done a great job in assembling this top level collection of new school breakbeat action, welcoming no less than 14 artists inside across 13 hard hitting creations. The exciting thing about the project is that it leaves no breaks-inspired stone unturned, featuring the likes of Sound Synthesis, Inkipak, DAWL, Flatliner and more. From the intense, arcade style arrangements of Sub Oscillator's 'Ketzer' remix from Difool, to the more abstract acidity of Bobo's bulging 'Club Proxima', we see such an exciting range on display. Our highlights therefore have to include both the classy club-ready bops of Ova Doce's 'Keep On', next to the cloud-lining euphoria of MOY's 'Jovian Sunrise'. A truly top quality collection.

Review: Since establishing the imprint during the first COVID-19 lockdown, Lauren Ritter has used the Rift Vision imprint as a vehicle for her progressively more impressive productions. This two-tracker is the first of two EPs she has slated for release on the label in 2024. There are two original productions to savour, each backed by an accompanying remix. 'Antigone' is a fine slice of dreamy, immersive, sub-heavy deep house tailor-made for summer sunrises and sunsets, which is later given a snappier, faster and jauntier spin by Zone+. Ritter continues to mine the more melodious, colourful and loved-up end of the dancefloor spectrum on 'Sarus'. Powel provides the remix, re-framing the track as a spacey, druggy and gently acid-flcked tech-house roller.

Review: If your leisure time activities tend towards herbal remedies and Rizla origami, then you're gonna love this new EP from Underground Canopy, a self-described "hip-hop-fed, groove-infused jazz band" from Paris who serve up a track that's tailor-made for late night, sofa-based chillin' and that comes in three equally headnodding mixes. The original's a midtempo, meandering affair with occasional bursts of frantic percussion that also sports some seriously wibbly analogue synths, the Ceylan Cut smoothes things out a little while the Barion Cut brings D&B flourishes, but you should probably just play all three back-to-back - 'Pearl Express' really is that good.

Review: It's no surprise that Baldo's "Ride the Night" has become a dance floor favourite. Drawing on acid and Italo influences that play out over a throbbing techno groove, it is the ultimate contemporary club track. Its stature poses a challenge for those whom Permanent Vacation have tasked to remix it, but each version succeeds in delivering a fresh perspective. Red Axes bring some industrial force and day glo psychedelia on their version. Alex Neri opts for a different approach, re-positioning the original amid flowing deep house textures. Jennifer Loveless' take follows a third alternative, as a pulsating bass supports dramatic builds and drops.

Review: Trip-hop/downtempo veterans The Deadbeats return with what by our reckoning is their sixth album, and their fifth on their own Space Hopper label. 'Butter Notes' opens with the Massive Attack-esque 'I Don't Believe' - all luxuriant strings and looping rap vocal snips - then moves on through six more slices of prime mid-paced chillage, blending influences from Balearica, broken beat, lo-fi hip-hop and funk before concluding with the suitably epic and expansive 'Am I Eternal'. If you've enjoyed any of their previous albums you're highly likely to enjoy this one as well, with the standout for this reviewer being 'Dark Forest', which adds some dubby flourishes to what it otherwise a fairly standardised blueprint. Still, if ain't broke, etc...

Review: Next up from the awesome Wot U Sayin imprint, a vibrant collection of dancefloor ready bubblers, seeing five artists land with their front foot forward. We open up with De Flurb, arriving with a crunchy combination of neurotic synthesiser twists and 2 stepper rhythmic feels, followed by both the breaksy abandon of Lexiecode's 'Skanky Girl' and heavily syncopated subby sinks of 'Spicy Dust' from Outselect. Finally, two additional rollers make their way forward, with Littlefoot's square-bass driven pulsar in 'Final Hourz' and Haavo's super spacey soundscaping on 'Outcome' providing the EP's final tasty touches. The EP embarks on a sonic journey, naturally, beginning with the gritty, lo-fi textures of "Modular Dance", where a paranoid lead synth winds through an urban soundscape. "Follow The Time" delves into more stripped-back territories, boasting kinetic kicks and dry basslines, intertwined with chopped-up vocals and freaky sound designs. Closing the EP, "Jump On The Floor" introduces an irresistible garage shuffle in its drums, accompanied by futuristic melodic phrases that cascade down, infusing cosmic hues into Rubin's stellar debut.

One word of warning, prepare for the unexpected as we dive into 10 tracks of sonic surrealism, from the uber-eerie percussive melodies of 'Plugs' with Quiet, to the stunning synthetic soundscaping of 'Nightcrawler' and high octane drum bops of 'Vampire Tints' alongside Riffs. Review: Only the third release here from DKOI - the name stands for 'Different Kinds of Idiots' - a fledgling label headed up by a pair of Glaswegian DJ/producers, Tiptoes and Bowfingers. For DKOI003 they've recruited a fellow Scot with a much longer track record, Milton Jackson, who serves up a brace of very fine cuts. 'Bad Decisions', with its cut-up vox, organ parps and monster of a bassline, brings the retro UK garage vibes, while the accompanying 'All Got Game' is another garage-leaning affair that sports a sampled "they all got game, they all complain" rap vocal and some great stabby keys. Review: The latest split release on Analogue isn't designed for the faint-hearted. Dax J's "Ares" gets the EP off to an intense start. Powered by the hardest drums this side of Synewave, there is some relief in the form of the moody house organ that is woven through the arrangement. On "Kal", Kaiser dispenses with musical elements in favour of a relentless tribal rhythm - like a high-paced take on vintage Octave One. Meanwhile, ANFS' "Amete" is centred on a brooding, ebm-style bass and cavernous sound design. Maintaining the same energy but utilising a different approach is Jerm's "Kaki", a pounding rhythm track.

Review: Hot on the heels of releases for Soma and Sleaze, James Bong returns to his own label. "Hood Plus" is based on a swinging groove and resounds to subtle melodic tones. While it doesn't deviate from this pattern throughout, its sound is still captivating. "No Time" and "Untruthful" both see Bong explore more intense territories. The former is a hard techno track. Led by dense, rough kicks, this backdrop provides the basis for Bong to weave in noisy textures. "Untruthful" features similar soundscapes - this time wave upon wave of electronic sounds play out over an abstract backing. "FFF" could be Bong's homage to Mills's soundtracks, with the jittery keys creating an atmospheric sonic whirlpool.
