Review: What a trip it's been for Alix Perez and his 1985 imprint. Continuously pushing new concepts, sounds and artists, it's swiftly become one of the most exciting and crucially stylised imprints in the beat game, no question. Here Alix treats us to an early taster of his label's next big release with this one track treat. Returning to his soulful roller signature, it's black velvet number that purrs and slinks in such an understated yet mean way. Timeless Perez.

Review: You can always rely on Hamburg heroes Dessous for sexy and slinky deep house that's perfect mood lighting for the late night. This time the groove comes courtesy of one Chocky - the name comes from the John Wyndham novel of the same name, in which an alien utilises frequencies and sounds to communicate to the world. The UK producer appears for the label a second time this year, in addition to releases on Ears Have Eyes and Big Bait Recordings. "Double Dip" is tough yet smoove east coast house in the tradition of Karizma or Mr. V. "Organism" is the kind of hypnotic and dubby deepness you'd expect to hear on sister label Poker Flat - but it's equally at home here, if we do say ourselves! "Soul Alive" with its mesmerising chord progressions would make even Jimpster stand up and notice and the funked up and dusted down disco loops of "Playtime Dub" will appeal to all Robsoul and I'm A House Gangster fans.

Review: Ibiza based Sirsounds are back with a cracker of a release by Corrado Bucci: the Italian DJ extraordinaire and production whizz has worked with labels like Local Talk, Wonderwheel, Compost and BBE Recordings. Bucci's original version of "Sumthin" is sensual and emotive deep house for the late night with gorgeous vocals, creamy Rhodes, sexy sax and tight rhythms. Dessous staple from Hamburg Vincenzo delivers a more hypnotic rendition, featuring one seriously infectious chord progression. Italian production Duo CRS+BRG (Cristian Addabbo and Giorgio Piermattei) show their love and influence from modern deep house by delivering a peak time version - which for sure will be in the playlists of many. Bucci's music has a melodic vein and fuses his signature symphonic sound with afro-latin, jazz and funk vibes. He also explored new musical territories with the inclusion of live instruments and a groove that's out of the ordinary.

The Hustle Parisian - (8:58) 125 BPM

Review: Here's something to set the pulse racing: a hot and sticky, two-track collaboration between 10-piece Parisian disco-funk outfit Cotonete and disco-house survivor Dimitri From Paris. "Parribean Disco", a Latin-tinged take on Caribbean disco rich in expansive jazz piano solos (think "Strings of Life", and you're close), pressure-building grooves and rousing horn lines, is undoubtedly the star of the show, though the high octane and fiendishly heavy disco-funk slammer that follows, "The Hustle Parisian" - all "Spank" electric piano stabs, mazy synth solos and layered trumpet riffs - arguably boasts more dancefloor weight. Both are superb, though, and sound like peak-time anthems in waiting.

Absolutely (Them & Us mix) - (3:42) 156 BPM

Review: Jamie Russell's Sneaker Social Club is one of those labels that just don't give a damn. We love them for that. Across its catalogue, you'll find an array of releases spanning from Bass Clef to Neil Landstrumm, and all sorts of continuous newcomers, such as this latest EP from the unknown Dream Cycle. It ain't really house and it ain't really tech, but somewhere in between, peppered and smoked with just the right amount of UK bass sensitivity. To give you a taster, "Dream 93" is a resurrection of the jungle and breakcore movement, stripped-back and repurposed for the 2017 mentality, while "Start Like It's Hot" takes some lessons from peeps like Leo Anibaldi - pure deep house magic! "Paradise State" is another magnetic jungle reinterpretation, and Them & Us' remix of "Absolutely" floats the waves drone and ambient with a touch of class rarely heard these days. Most importantly, Dream Cycle seems to be all about movement and progression. Two winning tactics.

Review: It seems that there is no end to the brilliance of the Jalapeno output with yet another classic now being released from Ephemerals. This original recording is smooth all over, with the relaxed vocal melodies layering themselves pleasingly over vibrantly orchestrated horn harmonies and drum grooves in an almost Chance The Rapper style of intentional looseness. This one comes complete with a bag of great remixes, including a trippy Asta Hiroki rework of the instrumental backing. Top stuff again from both the Ephemerals and Jalapeno brands!

Review: Based in Washington DC, Breaksy heavyweights Fort Knox Five allow Canada's Stickybuds to send their well received single 'Give It A Minute' to the electro chop shop. This one is packed with dance floor grit, aggressive swing and a fantastic groove in general as Stickybuds layers sections from the original arrangement perfectly amidst his own signature distorted bass synths and crunchy drum work. This one comes complete with the Stickybuds instrumental mix as well for good measure!

Review: Holy Goof winds up his most successful, high profile year to date with another superb collabo on his HG Music imprint. This time tagging up with fellow Bristol basssmith Notion, the vibe fusion is right on point as the pair bring out the funk in each other. "Be Mine" slaps with a house feel as harmonic swoon and sweep in the background while a UK funky style percussion and steel drums develop throughout. "Harder" takes us up a gear with more of a groaning bass-focused jam. Stripped back but constantly evolving with additional bars from Face, it's an instant floor-filler. No goofing around with this one.

Review: Mexican producer Hotmood can usually be relied upon to bring the goods, and so it proves on this tasty new four-tracker for SFSB Recordings. We're particularly enjoying lolloping opener "Let's Get It", where jammed-out synthesizer and Clavinet motifs rise above a supple groove, though loopy, housed-up re-edit "Last Soul" is also rather tasty. "The G Groove" sees him reach for the filters and deliver a slinky, bass-heavy take on a lesser-known disco-funk cut, while "Keep on Dancing" chops and rearranges a punchy, horn-heavy cut previously re-edited by Todd Terje some years back. The edits and loops are quite short, leading to a version that feels more suitable for house dancefloors than straight-up disco ones.

Review: Having spent the last few years quietly building his reputation via decent EPs for ESP Institute, Saft and Keep it Zen, Ian Blevins has had a relatively quiet 2017. This outing on Dave Harvey's Futureboogie Recordings label is only his second release of the year. It is, though, rather good, with Blevins gleefully sprinting between acid-flecked, Italo-disco inspired Balearic house (tidy opener "Round Trip"), rush inducing, organ and acid-driven positivity ("Roland's Rat") and rolling, slow-building late night goodness (the bubbly melodies and elongated chords of "Can You Count My Dream"). The obligatory remix is provided by Lobster Theremin and Uncanny Valley regular Panthera Krause, whose Moroder-on-happy tablets version of "Round Trip" is a warm, hazy and life-affirming delight.

Review: All we could find out about the mysterious J.B. Boogie is that he is from Athens and definitely has credentials - when you consider that he has released on tastemaker labels such as local imprint ChopShop, Springbok, SpinCat and now London's Midnight Riot who present his new Forbidden Kiss EP. The funky disco loops of the title track are evidence of a respectful edit that at the same time does not forego DJ functionality: with that absolutely epic brass section this is your next secret weapon. "Like It" is a lo-slung boogie number for long hot sexy nights and the way he works that low pass filter throughout: gives it an absolute midas touch. Finally "Never Stop" is another fine piece of edit action and this one is a real treasure that was well worthy of a modern revision. Nice one!

Review: Having started his career by making synth-heavy cuts inspired by proto-house, disco and NYC boogie, Jex Opolis has recently moved further towards Balearic territory. Human Emotion, the New York producer's final 12" of the year, smartly touches on all of these influences and more. "Human Emotion (TV Dub)" is loved-up, slick and groovy, with cut-up vocal samples rising above a dreamy, drum machine-dominated groove, while "Fifth Wind" layers saucer-eyed piano flourishes and head-in-the-clouds chords over a killer analogue bassline and near-horizontal rhythm track. Elsewhere, "Botanica" is a Fairlight-wielding chunk of Balearic instrumental synth-pop, "Infinity Room" sounds like Andreas Vollenweider jamming with Moon B, and closer "Human Emotion" is a low-slung, proto-house style treat.

Review: If you pay close attention to deep house trends, you can't fail to have noticed the recent upsurge in interest in "dream house", the late '80s Italian sub-genre famed for its loved-up waviness. At the forefront of this revival stands the Blind Jacks Journey label and their Dream House Tropicana series. This fourth volume is every bit as essential as its predecessors. Italian veteran Deep88 impresses with the tactile rhythms, head-in-the-clouds chords and cascading melodies of "Breakfast Club", while Mozaika successfully wraps gentle acid lines, held-note strings and vibrant electronics around a sparse rhythm track on opener "Eurytmia II". RNr handles the flipside, offering up the Balearic broken beats of "Refresh Your Hair" and the dub-fuelled deep house jauntiness of "Tap4".

Review: Back in 1993, Nature Boy Milo Johnson followed-up the release of his sublime Ruff Disco Volume 1 LP with the two-part Necessary Ruffness EP. This first digital reissue, which comes on the back of a new edition of its in-demand predecessor, gathers together cuts from both of those 12" singles. In "Eurodisney (Unreleased Demo Mix)", the EP also contains a previously unheard, stripped-back take on the Italo-house inspired workout. There are plenty of other highlights across the remainder of the EP, though, including the breezy, sample-heavy chunkiness of "Real (Dubwize)", (Deep House), the bass heavy, jazz-funk fuelled bump of "Whatchusay (Demo Mix)" and the undulating, Philadelphia International-goes-house vibes of the ultra-positive "Philly Bound".

Review: Some say he got his name because he's as driven by detail and as ruthless as a tax inspector. Others say he got his name because he's so hard you can stick tacks in his neck and he doesn't even notice. What we do know is that he's responsible for three precision productions that get right to the gully heart of the matter... "Midnight" is all about the power bounce, "Labyrinth" is a shaken-and-stirred roller with a really cool, almost Skeppy-like vocal twist up and dreamy pads, "Snide" is all about the late 90s Ram sound with its vicious riff that twists in and around the beats in a kind of Shimon-esque style. Complete with a killer VIP from the label boss Hybrid, you'll be playing "Midnight" round the clock.

Review: Any chef will tell you that tasty dishes can be made from offal, so it's little surprise to find that the quartet of "Off Cuts" served up on this Ooft! EP tend towards the delicious. Check, for example, the loved-up, riff-heavy house bliss of "High Hopes", where a marrow-rich chord sauce is lightly drizzled over a sparse and unfussy machine groove, or the retro-futurist sweetbread that is low-slung late night throb-job "Inner Space". Arguably even better is the sugary-sweet slo-mo bliss of tropical dream house shuffler "Choogles", while standout opener "Erotic Ashtray" layers saucer-eyed spoken word samples over an intensely blissful and dreamy deep house groove. It sounds like a long-lost Dream II Science track, which is no bad thing in our book.

Review: Pete La Freq is a Cambridgeshire DJ that heads up Alpaca Edits and its parent label Llama Farm. On "Freq Show" be prepared for a Cameo sounding, neon-lit boogie funk edit that could well have been on the soundtrack to classic '80s films like Beverly Hills Cop or Action Jackson. And that P-funk bassline, manalive! Next up he serves up some lo-slung, deep disco business on "Stuff" that goes for that late '70s NYC kind of vibe. Finally "Changing Transport" is the kind of feel good and sunny 'respectful edit' that will appeal to fans of other equally lauded disco Stus of the moment - such as Perth's Dr. Packer or The Noodleman from Toronto. This follows up some awesome releases on the label in recent times, from the likes of Andy Buchan, RockNRolla Soundsystem and the charmingly titled C Da Afro.

Review: It seems that Trevor Jackson's vault of unheard Playgroup recordings is even more sizeable than previously thought. Here the veteran DJ/producer delivers a second two-disc compendium of unreleased archival gems, presenting a range of cuts that variously touch on post-punk disco, electro, new wave, P-funk (the brilliant "Don't Stop (Dub)"), experimental dub disco, lo-fi deep house, deep boogie, skewed dub and delay-laden, proto-house style workouts. Jackson even turns his hand to wonky digi-dub ("In Riddim") and intense, distortion-rich techno ("No Lube") with predictably impressive results. That the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout is testament to Jackson's production skills.

Review: Local Talk broadens the palette further with new music by Melbourne producer Prequel who has had two fine releases on Rhythm Section Intl. Opening with the dusted down and jazzy MPC-style deep house of "Freedom" which channels urban soul sounds of Detroit's Theo Parrish as much as it does Berlin's Money $ex crew. The second offering "Lefty" takes a left hand path indeed - venturing down a route much more brooding and sinister for this cavernous slow techno experiment. It's reminiscent of Leipziger Kassem Mosse's work. Swedish house label established in 2011 by Mad Mats & Tooli, Local Talk has had a great year with releases by Cuthead, Crackazat, Tee Mango and Marcel Lune thus far.

Review: Smallville has clearly been paying attention to the output of Cosmic Rhythm, the Bari-based imprint renowned for its' futurist infusions of vintage Italian dream house sounds, tropical melodies and the far-sighted ethos of Detroit techno. Here, they've served up an EP from one of the label's rising stars, Rhythm of Paradise, who particularly impresses with the skittish Motor City percussion and swirling deep house aesthetics of "Dreams". Elsewhere, "Into Your Eyes" doffs a cap to Calypso Records on the chunky but loved-up "Into Your Eyes" and wonderfully wavy, sunset-friendly warmth of "U". Fittingly, Cosmic Rhythm boss Cosmic Garden steps up to remix "Dreams", delivering a deliciously glassy-eyed take that sits somewhere between early Italian ambient house and the analogue-rich swing of classic Larry Heard productions.
