Review: Aeon Musk has nothing to do with the Tesla founder, and is in fact a collaboration between brothers Adam and Daniel Hignell. The pair's aim is to make 'analogue synth space pop with a hint of WTF' and on Sunrise, it sounds like they have succeeded. The title track is a wonderfully low-slung electronic disco groove, supported by crashing drums and crisp claps. Even more impressive is "The Polyverse Is Revealed To Olaf". A truly cosmic, widescreen affair, it is led by epic synths, crashing guitar chords and a hint of Carpenter-esque sound track atmospherics. If left of centre electronic music is your thing, you should switch on to Aeon Musk.

Review: Midnight Riot's latest label debut comes from Alex Zuiev, a floor-focused producer and re-editor who has previously released music on FKR, Cherry Cola, Whiskey Disco and Editorial. There's naturally much to enjoy here, from the throbbing, Moroder style arpeggio lines and camp orchestration of title track "Moon Dream", to the sparkling Italo-disco revivalism - think screaming space synths, clipped Chic style guitars, crunchy Clavinet lines and mazy organ solos - of standout "Soul Train". The fun doesn't stop there, though; both the delay-laden, 60s soul-plus-synths vibe of "Don't See" and baggy disco-funk roller "Nobody Can Stop You" are tried and tested treats.

Review: It's disco, Jim, but not as we know it. On his two original cuts here, 'Ascension' itself and 'Vendetta', Andrem - whose previous work has graced Roam, Nein and other labels - blends disco and progressive house/melodic techno influences in a way you'd never think was even possible, with 'Ascension' an uptempo, peaktime-friendly affair and 'Vendetta' more of a druggy, slo-mo chugger. 'Ascension' re-rubs from Rigopolar and DaWad emphasise the track's electronic elements, with DaWad also introducing a hint of Eastern flava, while Teniente Castillo gives 'Vendetta' a space rock twist and Roe Deers take it towards Orb-ish territory.

Review: If the tongue-in-cheek press release accompanying last year's first Apparel Music release is anything to go by, Apparel Wax is a "vinyl-faced artist" who "tears dancefloors apart". There's certainly no denying the club-ready status of his or her output. For proof, check the artist's fifth release, which begins with a wonderfully celebratory chunk of breezy, sunshine-ready disco which has been slightly pitched up up satisfy the demands of house-loving dancefloors. "005A2" sees our vinyl-faced hero make merry with a chiming chunk of '80s soul rich in slap bass and sweeping strings, while "005B1" is a bouncy, piano-heavy workout crafted from bits of another '80s workout. Closing cut "005B2", on the other hand, is a fairly "straight" edit rich in sweaty drums, jammed-out electric piano solos and bustling bass guitar.

Review: This is an interesting one. One track each from Comma & A.Fruit with an accompanying remix both from Itoa and D&R favourite TMSV make up a classicly Rua Sound release that combines halftime, jungle, and D&B flavours perfectly. 'Gasworks' is outstanding, but the Itoa remix takes it to the next level with a furious display of break-based energy, matched only by TMSV's menacing take on 'Gonman', in particular DE's vocal line in combination with a pulsating, visceral bassline. That shouldn't take attention away from the original 'Gonman', which leaves plenty of space for bass stabs to interject the vocal line, creating a stuttering yet fluid sense of travel. A genuinely unique release.

Review: Arms & Legs co-head and all round Berlin legend Daniel Steinberg takes up the reins here, following up great releases from the label by Harry Axt, Felix Da Housecat and Kristin Velvet. Steinberg's DJing has been heralded by many, having built a reputation as an artist who delivers serious fun on the dancefloor - he knows what works basically. He presents the moody bounce of "Domingo" here - all thunderous toms, blustering bass and eerie chords. The second offering "One DMC" is a more ferocious affair that uses a fat and dusty groove to power away beneath those catchy rap vocals.

Review: Dream for a "Requiem"? You're in the right place mate. Jinx returns to his new label Straight Up with four more stank attacks. "Dun Know" sets the scene, all loose limbed and bulbous with its tubular bass rolls while "Original" (with Shogun) takes us down a much more tunnelling 97 style route. Elsewhere the title track flexes on a serious elastic vibe with a low swung Moving Fusion feel before Shogun joins the fray once again for the rave-tinged finale. Pitched vocals, rattle breaks and classic detuned synths ahoy, this one's a straight up keeper.

Vertigo (dub) - (5:48) 122 BPM

Review: If this sounds like the work of NYC disco band Escort, there's a very good reason - both the producer, Jason "JKriv" Kriveloff, and guest vocalist, Adeline, were once members. The good news is that "Vertigo" is every bit as good as Escort's finest moments (think "Starlight", "Love in Indigo", "A Bright New Life" etc.), with Adeline providing a stellar vocal atop Kriveloff's killer bassline, pianos, strings and Nile Rodgers style guitars. The accompanying "Dub" rework is naturally a little heavier and more arpeggio-driven, with Kriveloff making great use of carefully placed dub delays and cosmic noises.

Review: The title track to Kenny Beeper's Crown Jewel's EP is a good taste of what's to come. Infectious, flute-based funk rolles down into hip-hop influenced movement that's eclectic yet solid. 'Funky Party People' takes things in a more distinctly funk direction, composed of 80s-esque synths that'll almost force you to get moving, tinged with an acid house influence that injects an element of edge - just ridiculously happy. Finally, 'Let's Get It', which has a mellow, subtle introduction that doesn't stop it from quickly becoming a riot with yet more heavy-weight synths that'll delight the outspoken. A banging finish to an especially good release.

Review: Under the Lego Edit alias, Diego Lelli has a penchant for serving up expansive collections of tooled-up reworks that offer excellent value for money. He's at it again here, offering up 18 finger-lickin' "Chicken Edits" that are far more tasty and satisfying than your average 3am fast food takeaway. Naturally, the material on offer is largely peak-time focused, with highlights including the glassy-eyed, filter-heavy disco-house of "Paris By Night", the wiggling, Maceo Parker style funk fun of "Gnomo Gnomo (Lego Re-Funk)", the breezy Brazilian samba-disco bliss of "Latin Maria (Lego dub 5am)", the sweaty loop-house heaviness of "A (BraziLego Edit)" and the percussive, organ-heavy, jazz-wise stomp of "The Crickets (Lego Classic Edit)".

Review: UK producer Matt Cutler aka Lone delivers the final instalment in his Ambivert Tools series of EPs. Like previous editions, The London based producer borrows respectfully from classic house aesthetics while decorating them with a vibrant and contemporary edge - much like the tracks released on his acclaimed Magicwire imprint. The evocative and breakbeat driven "Pulsar" conjures up memories of the late '90s, sounding like an excerpt from Sasha & Digweed's seminal Northern Exposure series. "Oedo 808" goes down a solid electro bass route and the sensual latin house flair of "Blue Moon Tree" intoxicates you with its shimmering chord progressions and hypnotic bongo rhythms.

Review: With roots going back to the turn of the decade and labels like Metalheadz in his discogs Soul Defiance needs no further reference. Neither does DJ Hybrid's Deep In The Jungle seals of approval for that matter. What we're talking about here are five moments of authentic rollage laced with superb choppy fills and powerful production. Highlights in the swashbuckling breaks chops on "Rudebwoy", the synapse snapping steps and alien bass squirms on "Oblivion" and the scattershot 23rd century funk of "Man On A Mission". Primordial super.

Review: Portland based Paul Dickow has been producing music for the better part of 20 years, beginning out at the turn of the millenium creating on experimental imprints such as Kranky, tigerbeat6 and Southern Lord. His main project though is Strategy which encompasses a wide variety of styles such as house, techno, ambient, experimental/noise, dub and more. He operates the Community Library and the currently dormant Archigramophone label too.The Future Shock EP features a wide selection of moods and grooves: from the ravey early '90s techno workout of the title track, the classic deep house vibe of the emotive "Forgotten Encounter" and the hypnotic outsider house of "Monsterzellos".

Review: The UK duo of Paul Withey and Sarah Lazenby follow up last year's Disco Fantasy EP with a single release that comes in a range of mixes. In its Original form, 'Vicious' opens with a familiar-sounding filtered piano riff, then settles down into a boogilicious affair sitting somewhere between nu-disco and Hed Kandi-style funky house, topped with a vaguely Roisin Murphy-esque vocal from Lazenby that's sure to inspire some singalong action on the dancefloor. HP Vince supplies a more overtly housey remix while Limpodisco's rub is the one for nu-disco lovers, with an Instrumental completing the package.

Review: Some proper phat-ass 21st Century funk from The Broker & Funk Reverse here. 'Funk Down' throws everything into the pot from rave sirens to Rodgers-esque guitar chops and Hammond organs, while nodding to glitch-hop in the chopping and stuttering of the beats. 'Funk Up' is an unashamed ghetto-funk party starter: it's big and bouncy, with plenty of squelch in the bassline department, and to be fair that's all that's really required of it. Finally, 'Funky Town' is a slightly pacier, more electronic-sounding affair than the other two, and so may be more easily programmable in a wider range of sets.
