Review: What happens when you get the iconic broadsword vocals from MC Spyda, the cricket bat-buckling riffage of man-of-the-mo Serum and a little love for the sticky-icky? This, basically. Hookier than a fisherman's convention, vibier than a whole cinema of massaging chairs, warmer than a picnic in the oven at gas mark six, this is guaranteed to get all the G-man and G-women singing along in harmony. The first track from BassLayerz' brand new imprint, this is the way you launch a new label!

Review: Roller King and all-round G Bladerunner returns on his own Hi Resolution imprint with four more fat slammers. "Power Up" is as close to neuro as you'll find the London artist. All rasping and waspish, it's a high voltage scenario from the slippery breaks to the sinewy reese. "The Crazy Dragon" flips the coin for a riffier jam where the bassline provides a strong melodic bullishness to the blend. "Electric Dreams" is the naughtiest monster of the set with its savage distorted reverse bass warps and wry 2000s-era BC stabs. Last but not least "Bulldozer" brings the curtains down with more of a junglised break and a no-nonsense 1.21 gigawatt bass sizzle. Power moves by name, killer moves by nature.

Review: Ripping up the rules at every opportunity, JTR returns to the ever-ready Cre8 stable and he's rolling deep with his own crew of emerging names. First up comes Manchester's Solix who co-pilots a stinking rampage jam where the bass croaks and the beat pokes. Deeper into the EP we find the prolific young producer tagging in with US, Germany and NZ collective BlackMask for theatrical string-scorcher "The Monster" and Woodz helps bring a little Charge power to the party with the laser-blazing "Get Your Own Groove". Finally, we see Southend happy slapper Alphaze getting mucky with the alien stabs on "Tribe" while "Warfare" brings us to a white knuckle finale with previous collaborator L>SP. Five d8s with Cr8 m8s, this ain't no b8.

Review: Push it higher! Scene OG Benny V tags up with k Warren for this heavyweight, party-pulverising EP. The heat so tangible you can genuinely feel it, "Feel The Fire" hits with a slew of lively stabs, a scorching vocal, a gully switch midway and a perfect refix by King-of-the-moment Bladerunner. Elsewhere "How Ya Feelin'" busses up with an infectious, not to mention venomous bass riff while Erbman & Verdikt get all slinky and wobbly on the remix. Pure fire.

Review: One of V's strongest partnerships, Paul T & Edward Oberon strike gold once again. "Sleepwalkers" brings out the woke in you with its precision balance of shades thanks to a lingering soul vocal and big boom tunnel drone bassline. "Stomp" explores the contrast furthermore with a stampede build and a coin-flipping high-toned rabbit punch riff. Distinctive, heavy but powered with soul, PT & EO are cooking with a fine alchemy right here.

Review: Kiu D's debut long-player The Journey was something of a hit for Masterworks Music in the summer of 2017. Here, tracks from that well-received set receive the remix treatment from various label affiliates. Rising star and Glitterbox regular Dr Packer steps up first to turn "Dynamite" into a hybrid chunk of orchestral disco/funk-fuelled house bliss, before Bachgenaur recasts "You Don't Have To" as a Red Rack'em-esque wonky disco-house anthem. Elsewhere, Fingerman steals the show with a mid-tempo boogie take on "Good Luck", while Hotmood's version of "Sweet Is Better" is a bouncy, life-enhancing deep house bumper.

Review: Part two of a picture sleeve, special release for Record Store Day 2018, featuring new and exclusive remixes of American legend D.C. LaRue. "Overture" (Folamour Orchestra mix) sees the French rising star deliver a glimmering boogie-down perspective for the late night, while Crazy P main man James Baron dons the Ron Basejam alias again - for a sunny dub of "Do You Want The Real Thing?" from the 1978 motion picture Thank God It's Friday. The always reliable Idjut Boys lend their deft hands to a remix of "Let Them Dance" from 1978's classic Confessions LP and closing out this fine remix package on the flip is the Razor-N-Tape affiliated J-Kriv: serving up another 'respectful edit', this time of "Cathedrals".

Review: Our great old Uncle Junodownload taught us three things: always stick to a deadline, stay off the breadline and watch out for rising Dose Radio junglist DJ Redline. He was right about the first two, and guess what? He's right about Redline too. Following two cracking EPs on Kevlar and Manic Beats comes this tight trio on Dutty Bass. All lean, all mean; each cut thumps with some exceptional well-spaced drum work, tuned subs and thick toxic grooves that you can imagine going down well with the likes of Randall or T>I around 3am in a rave den near you. Don't take our word for it, take great old Uncle Junodownload's.

Review: The Furney fires keep burning as he makes his debut on DJ Slap's WOC. Marking the seventh release on the label with the title "Seventh" even though there are actually eight tracks (we won't tell trading standards if you don't!) each cut shows a different side to Furney ranging from restrained, stripped back timeless rolling soul to much darker subversive adventures. From the classic samplecraft on "Trading Minds" to the precision balance of shiny synths and moodier bass on "Jah Quero Down" via the brilliant string sample and rubber ball rave bassline on "Seventh", this is a deeply detailed and diverse collection from one of the most consistent men in the dark soul game. Feeling lucky?

Review: John Talabot and Axel Boman released their debut album as Talaboman last year, and now R&S are issuing remixes of tracks from The Night Land. First up is Superpitcher, who is tasked with reworking "Dins El Llit". The Kompakt star uses a stripped back, bleepy groove as a basis to conjure up blurry vocal samples and pulsing 303s, making for a subtle, tripped out affair. The same can be said about Samo DJ's take on "The Ghosts Hood". While it is more pacey than Superpitcher's rework, the break beats are understated and the acid line keeps niggling away. The final remix comes from Luke Slater under his LB Dub Corp guise; on his version of ""Brutal Chugga Chugga", the UK veteran delivers a superb, low-slung, jacking Chicago workout.

Review: There's naturally plenty of high-grade material to be found on Jolly Jams' latest round up of previously "promo only" material from their regular vinyl missives. It's a thrill-a-minute ride through illicit underground dancefloor pastures that touches on a variety of styles, from the "Buffalo Gals"-sampling early Chicago House flex of Promo Only's "Promo Only" (track 9) and the pitched-down jazz-funk/disco-funk re-edit brilliance of Conor's "Sure Thing", to the Ron Hardy style grooves and dub delays of new wave/proto-house rework "Sake of Nothing" by Slaves of Love, via DJ Kaos's sought-after dancefloor tweak of an infamous Italo disco-era cover of Eric Clapton's "After Midnight" (here re-titled "Midnight Patrol"). The latter, now near impossible to find on vinyl, is simply essential.

Review: For his first album since 2016's acclaimed A Minor Thought, Sebastian Genz AKA Moonin has upped-sticks from Smallville and resurfaced on Wolf Music. Musically, little has changed, meaning a heady and intoxicating blend of sumptuous, organ-heavy dancefloor dustiness, muddy lo-fi house, jazzier workouts and the kind of sample-rich, hip-hop influenced deep house jams that are currently all the rage. There are a few curveballs dotted throughout, too, most notably the head-nodding instrumental hip-hop deepness of "949494" and a couple of wonderfully deep and evocative, liquid style drum and bass rollers. In other words, it's an excellent album that exudes smoky deepness from start to finish.

Review: It would be fair to say that Tom Dragebo isn't one of Oslo's better-known producers. The How Long EP is his first release for six years and could well contain his strongest work to date. There's a druggy and dubbed-out feel to opener "How Long", where grizzly, rock style vocal samples and ragged acid lines ride a groove partly inspired by Prins Thomas classic "Fehrara". Fittingly, Thomas makes the track looser, warmer and more loved-up on his accompanying "Discomiks". Dragebo's love of TB-303 acid lines and LFO style bleeps comes to the fore on "Perler For Svin", which comes backed by a ridiculously wild, wayward and distorted Prins Thomas interpretation. Great stuff all told.

Review: According to the man himself, Graeme Clark's latest long player as the Revenge - his first since 2016 - is "the sound of a producer reaching maturity". While that makes it sound like Clark is ready to don a pair of slippers and craft needlessly noodly ultra-deep house numbers, When The Thrill Comes is actually full to bursting with high quality, analogue-rich peak-time bumpers. Highlights include the throbbing, delay-laden basement grooves and clandestine atmosphere of "Nasehorn", the dense broken house beats and lo-fi melodies of superb album opener "Top Buzz" and the sweet, saucer-eyed synthesizer motifs and Metro Area drums of "Another Illusion". Check, too, the epic title track, which sounds like slowly building, Innervisions-esque deep house/tech-house fusion after a fistful of happy pills.

Review: For their 5th release the London label born of the clubnight of the same name make a b-line straight for the dancefloor. The title track of Desert Sound Colony's latest EP is equal parts anthemic vocals, stabbing guitar lines and a motorik backbone which combining for a hefty slice of post-punk inspired dancefloor churn. The last two tracks take the themes found in Lose My Rhythm and head down the rabbit hole to drown you with a flurry of breaks led rhythms on Suffocation and put you to rest with the pitch black basslines of The Blacksmith. On the remix front local hero Scott Fraser delivers an acid drenched expansion of the title track.

Review: Hirsure, Star Wars-loving scalpel fiend Chewy Rubs is one of the disco scene's more reliable re-editors. Over the years, he's delivered superb floor-friendly re-rubs for most of the scene's most checked labels, often prioritizing percussive grooves and low-slung basslines. That's exactly what you get with "Garage Disco (Chewy Rubs Dub)", the opening gambit from the disco Wookie's latest EP. The track is built around heavy, rubbery punk-funk style bass, dense pots-and-pans percussion and some mind-altering dub effects, but retains a strong link with peak-time dancefloors throughout. Elsewhere, Moke lends a hand on the driving, dub disco-meets-disco-house bounce of "Keep Improving On (Bubble Dub)", while "Somebody That Loves You (T&B Perc Dub)" is low-slung, bass-heavy dub disco delight.

Review: Having previously released on a wealth of labels including Marco Dionigi's Quantistic division and mighty Dutch imprint Bordello a Parigi (the latter in cahoots with legendary producer Alexander Robotnick), it would be fair to say that Tulioxi is one of the rising stars of contemporary cosmic disco. Further evidence to back up this theory can be found on the Italian producer's latest EP, from the rubbery bass, wild electronics and mind-altering effects of Baldelli-esque opener "The Outside", to the alien electrofunk madness of "The New Acid Funk", which reminded us a little of DC Recordings sort Arcadian. Spacey Italo-disco throb-job "You Are Bad Luck" is backed by two remixes, of which the bouncy, echo-laden Younger Than Me re-fix is our pick.

Review: Legendary British producer Simon Mills is back on Birmingham/Ibiza based Secret Life under his own name this time. He's been a staple of the imprint in recent years, under his nu-disco alias Napoleon with several releases including one of our all time favourites - the Moogie Wonderland EP a few years back. As part of the acclaimed duo Bent with Neil 'Nail' Tolliday, they released a couple of genre defining albums including the LP Programmed To Love, released at the turn of the millenium. On Harmonic Jigsaws Vol. 1, the scene veteran serves up a fine collection of neon-lit, boogie down grooves for the late night. From the bittersweet and melancholic deepness of "THIFOL" featuring close collaborator Joel Hood, the cute candy funk of "Scorchio!" (which features a touch of sweet flamenco) or the sweet sunkissed balearica of "Rainbow Groove" - this is one of the finest albums we've heard all year.

Review: It's landed! Two highly iconic and tricky-to-trace funk breaks from the 70s get the treatment from the mysterious new US series B Boy Funk Breaks. Blackrock's psychedelically twinged "Yeah Yeah" gets a slight shuffle and refocus while retaining the all the instrumental drama and swashbuckling drop that's led with JB-level bandleadership while the edit of Richard's People take us straight to church, front row centre. Again laced with another clean and killer break, this is powermove gold.
