Review: Well what a year 2017 has been for Skepsis. The simple fact is there are very few DJs or producers that have taken part in such a rapid rise to infamy in recent times. The original composition of 'Goes Like' was an absolute storm come release day, with the track receiving incredible DJ support from UK heavyweights such as My Nu Leng, TQD and even the likes of Diplo. On remix duty, Skepsis has brought together a powerhouse selection, with Darkzy providing an vibrant bassline rework whilst The Prototypes and Frazah supply high energy drum and bass redesigns of the track. As well as this the release is blessed with his own official VIP, which has been damaging dances for a hot minute. This is a fantastic way to round off a fantastic year for the CruCast collective.

Review: Belgian badmen Fanatics unleash more data spinning grot on their spiritual home Walking Dead. Four moments of stripped back fire; it's all about the riff and weirdo toxic bass designs from start to finish. "Quasar" will have you jittering in your own sweat, "Blanka" will have you sweating in your own jitter, "Duel" is all about the air-slicing karate moves you'll want to pull every time you hear this while "Bug Lite" pays tribute to a cool combo of techno, frogs and joyous insubordination. Essential.

Review: Seriously respected for his abilities in the studio as much as his stage presence, Coppa's status is golden across the game. And he's about to show exactly who shiny that gold is with his new album "Poetry In Motion". Courtesy of Shimon's Audioporn, it features a premiership producer rollcall and it begins here with man of the moment Benny L. Hitting Coppa with another signature low blow, his moody fog is sliced through by Coppa's direct flow. "Bring War" murks up the mix even more as Shimon and Trimer lay down a wretchedly sparse groove that rumbles and shimmers in equal measure. Pure poetry; we can't wait to hear the whole album.

Review: Damage Report returns to Twisted's recently revived Grid imprint with another absolute shredder-fest. Six-tracks deep, it's mean, it's raffish, it's toxic, it's rolling, it's hooky; ain't nobody messing around right here. "Frankenstein" is every bit as freaky as its title suggests, "Don't Offend Me" ignites with an almost trancey feel before dropping into a late 90s Bristol steppy sound, "Banana Tree" is a bongo-busting rattler that purrs with subby goodness, "It's Alive" is a stripped back spook-fest that wouldn't go amiss in a Serum set while "Rope Swing" leaps through the jungle with a truly chest-beating bassline and "Message Of Doom" signs out the EP with the deadly intention it deserves. Damage Report has been smashing it for several years now. This is the sound of him levelling up once again.

Review: Tici Taci regulars the Long Champs return to action with something different: an EP that contains three original cuts, rather than one plus remixes. They begin Tone Test with a chunk of feverish, foreboding creepiness: a kind of 21st century drug-chug take on the original 1988 version of the KLF's "What Time Is Love" with added low-end sleaziness ("A Postcard"). Wisely, they dip the tempo and leave a little breathing space in the mix on downtempo nu-disco throb-job "Araf", before brilliantly mangling Balearica, dub disco and cosmic disco on the simultaneously fuzzy and glistening closer "Punk Episode". The latter reminded us of Mushrooms Project, which is no bad thing.

Review: Straight out of Kingston, Jamaica, Moonshine Recordings team up with the unstoppable force of Bukkha for a melodic masterpiece of an EP. Featuring multiple original vocal performances, this EP entitled 'Unity' sees Bukkha delve deep into his dub roots, especially with the vibrancy of the first track 'Unite' featuring Clinton Sly. The combination of dub-style drum arrangement and airy woodwind melodies on this and 'A Burial' featuring Don Fe makes for very enjoyable listening. The stripped back dub-reggae stylings of 'Peacemaker' alongside Blind Prophet and the murky drum and bass switch ups of 'Dark Future' round the EP off perfectly. This is another fantastic look at dub music from a different angle, a scenario that Moonshine Recordings have become synonymous with in recent times!

Review: Wolverhampton's own Jedi has joined forces with the illustrious vocals of Joe Blow for a brand new EP entitled 'Raw' on the Dubstomp 2 Bass imprint. This release is a straight jump up jamboree, featuring four original creations, all stuffed with bass driven energy. To start 'Hit The Deck' and the title track 'Raw' both draw crunked out hip hop infused influences across their introductions which then descend into bass mayhem! Following this we have the metallic rolling sounds of 'My Vapour' rounding off the EP with the electrifying sounds of 'Down Deeper'. Overall this is a great package, jam packed with energy designed to dust off any dance.

Loaded with vibrant dub skanks, if you've caught any of his recent sets, you'll know how much this kicks off. Flip for "Time Out". A bubbling dub odyssey rolling at halftime tempo, it's Digital showing his roots and more reflective side with rich, precision sonic science. Pure class.

Review: His first fresh material to land since his powerful debut LP document Negative Space, Homemade Weapons returns to Samurai with four more outstanding 23rd century jungle compositions. "Heiress" impresses instantly with jittering breaks, scorching textures and molten reese basses. "Street Cleaner" is a rifle-like militant drum assault while "Pyrosome" rattles with an unusually funky shuffle for the Canadian artist, hitting in a way that's not dissimilar to Paradox. Finally "Nabilone" rounds off with a brutal fusion of breaks, spliced savagely over densely pressurised atmospheres. This heiress's throne awaits....

Review: More fusion from the elusive Manny soundboys Think Tonk as they continue to melt down the essence of jungle, drum & bass and bashment. "Ride Out" is their shiniest dancehall stepper to date with an autotuned vocal that's almost foxy in its male prowess. The remixes pay full respect as Benny Page gets his sunshine D&B skank on while Zed Bias gives V two slinky 135 garage jams. Strap up, this one's riding for a long time to come.

Review: Thanks to recent releases on Hotflush and Stroboscopic Artefacts, Yotam Anvi is a producer on the rise. Here the Israeli DJ/producer makes his debut on Dixon and Ame's Innervisions imprints, suggesting his place in the big time is secured for some time to come. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of lead cut "Midas Touch" is the track's intoxicating late night atmosphere, a mood created via the use of drifting Middle Eastern vocal samples, psychedelic acid lines and a thrusting, low-slung tech-house groove. Anvi's Arabic influences once more come to the fore on "Jorniel", where exotic melodies and gentle acoustic guitar solos weave in and out of another bustling, bass-heavy rhythm track.

Review: dBridge & Skeptical: do we even need to say any more? Two natural bass innovators repping two separate generations colliding once again to create two singular slices of 170 rawness. "I've Seen" hits heavy from the off with a very Book Of Bad style heads-down gurgling bass roll and an ace sample about a whole other deadly type of material. "Poor & Poverty" flips a whole other CPU of switches as we're taken deep down the digidub rabbit hole. Rolling at halftime speed but punching with soundclash weight, in some ways it takes us back to their first collaboration "Move Way" from 2013 but with less bashment feels and more technoid paranoia. Kindred business.

Review: Here is the alter ego of Millionhands big cheese Tom Mangan. As Tee Mango he has had releases with Will Saul (and released on his Aus Music imprint earlier this year) and he's next up on Mad Mats & Tooli's Local Talk imprint. There's some splendid expressions in nu-jazz deepness on offer on the Dadhouse EP. Beginning with the emotive and chill groove of "Don't Worry Everything's Going To Be Alright" with some mad syncopated rhythms: hear the drummer get wicked! "Trying Times" is smooth and jazzy deep house reminiscent of classic Nick Holder with its smoky Rhodes. dusty rhythms and sexy soul vocals. On the flip, the reduced tribal-dub-DJ tool "The Rhythm" (Drums 3) was particularly impressive and reminded us of Kerri Chandler's more esoteric moments. Finally "Your Love" ends this fine EP on a bittersweet note on this Arthur Russell style jam.

Review: Faze Action teams up with Nina Miranda for the jazzy disco tones of "Vamos Pintar", and the results are magic. This is unabashedly joyous, flamboyant dance music rich with vibraphone licks, synth stabs and a catchy vocal hook about painting, which Max Essa then slows down to a Balearic strut on his "Slo Mo Bubble Dub" mix before offering up a more energetic "Extended Club Mix". The real gem on the record comes with "Paradise 90 Dub", which faithfully champions the Larry Levan school of party music, and everyone knows that means guaranteed club heat.

Review: What an ambitious effort Aksel Schaufler's Golden Ravedays project has been. For some of us the project has been a quite a reference point for charting the progress of 2017, as he released a respective edition every month. Here we have the second last instalment which features two long cuts that have you sorted for functionality, long mixes or just long sessions of drift worthy bliss! First offering "Brothers" is a loopy disco house cut that calls to mind the French Touch sounds of the late '90's: as popularised by Cassius or Motorbass et al. That hypnotic disco lick, driving bass and dusty drums all work in perfect unison. Also on offer is the fittingly titled downbeat piece "Sleepy Head" which is yet another tripped out ambient piece to join many others during the series. This psychedelic journey featuring whirry synth textures, new-age elements plus sombre pianos and Shauffler's creepy vocals - all kind of clashing but in a not altogether unpleasant fashion!

Review: While he's called his new EP Save The World From Bad Music, we could argue that DJ Kaos has been on that mission for the best part of two decades. Happily, his latest chunk of cheekiness on Jolly Jams contains another quartet of party-starting treats. He begins with the wide-eyed, cut-and-paste brilliance of "S", which somehow joins the dots between squidgy late '80s Euro-house, "Long Train Running" and Italian house pianos, before getting busy with an obscure proto-house jam on "A". "V" is a killer rework of an early '80s tune that sits somewhere between AOR disco and proto-house, while brilliant closer "E" sticks a rocket under an obscure, psychedelic-era funk-rock gem.

Review: For this project which explores the intersection of science, music and art, Max Cooper was influenced by varying interpretations of time. For the inspiration behind the EP, he said he was trying to find an explanation for our experience of time - a growing physical dimension that we experience in the present, but on the cusp of inflation. Pretty deep stuff! Furthermore, the visual and musical ideas were conceived during train journeys, then taken into the studio to form each track, and finally a collaboration with Kevin McGloughlin created video representations that will feature in their upcoming live show. The sombre and introspective ambient journey "Veil Of Time" starts things off until "Resynthesis" kicks in with the groove on this lush deep tech house journey backed by superior sound design. "Stacked Moments" takes things up a notch yet again on this hard hitting effort - possibly the most most aggressive we've ever heard from the Irishman. Its broken rhythms approaching near industrial moments, backed by some abrasive sonic textures. Finally his collaboration with Rob Clouth entitled "Corporeal" (heard previously on Cooper's Essential Mix) features the sound of a synth run through a radio transmitter!

US producer Truncate delivers the loopy, big-room techno goods with his steely, percussive take on "Innocence", while Running Back boss Gerd Jansen turns "Call Me" into an early-90s themed hardcore meets house affair, its sirens wailing over raw break beats. FaltyDL is on hand to transform "Erdmond" into a spaced out, low-profile techno groove, replete with a command centre count down, while Raster Not on regular Kyoka goes for an frazzled, stepping take on "Call Me".

Review: Durban producer Sandy B is a giant of the Kwaito scene. Even so, his post-Apartheid set Amajovi Jovi - considered by many diggers to be one of the defining releases in the history of the distinctively South African style - has long been impossible to find. Rumour has it that even Sandy B doesn't own a copy of the original cassette. Happily, the team behind Invisible City Editions managed to find one and here give the set its first official vinyl issue. It's a brilliant set, all told, full of "township party music" that joins the dots between rolling U.S house, bottom-end heavy hip-hop, native zulu rap and the kind of sparkling, colourful synths that were once a hallmark of South African bubblegum pop.

Review: London nu-disco imprint Bearfunk are back with a smashing tune from the mysterious Matt Kenny. My Malaise" is classic Detroit techno - hi-tech soul if you will, but not at such a blistering tempo. Kenny somehow makes it work in a downbeat fashion which we could really appreciate. From what we can tell, the track is around five years old but sounds as fresh as ever: we're glad that Stevie Kotey and Co. could help this sleeper hit see the light of day and bring forth his first release in nearly 10 years! His last release was on sub-label Hairy Claw way back when. It also gets a wicked remix by Reverso 68 main man Pete Herbert on his absolutely electric Brick Lane version, and is followed up by another original offering in the form of the evocative "Back 2 Basement". It's yet more soulful and evocative techno business that will appeal to fans of first and second wave sounds from the Motor City.

Review: Since launching in the spring of 2016, the Ourselves label has barely deviated from its tried-and-tested blueprint. As with previous offerings, this EP serves up a quartet of cuts from deep house producers on the rise. Our highlight is probably the rubbery disco-house jazziness of "Sisters" by Snacks, which offers a perfect balance between horn-heavy sample manipulation and fluid new instrumentation, though Jan Ketel's Rhodes-heavy roller "Charles De Gaulle" isn't far behind. Elsewhere, Siggatunez layers attractive vibraphone solos over a swinging late night house groove on "The Chase", while Luvless pepper a tactile deep house groove with late night riffs and glistening guitars on opener "Cluster Love".

Review: Rod Modell is about to release his fifth album for Soma, and as a taster, delivers Northern Shores. Like the empty beach and distant sea on the cover, opening track "Cirriforms" is an evocative piece of electronic mood music whose breathy chords ebb and flow before crashing in on the gentle, stepping groove. "Sky Maps" is more dance floor focused, with a rolling, supple groove supporting Modell's melodic twists. Listen closely and you can hear the sound of sea birds chirping over the dub shanty. "Crystal Horizons" sees him reverting to the light, breezy sound of "Cirriforms", while closing track "Sand and Shore" reinforces the US producer's reputation as a purveyor of esoteric electronic music, delivered in a windswept, ethereal style.

Review: It looks like Punks are at it again. This time London's Alex Session steps forward alongside the fantastic Graziella on 'Move'. This one is built for the dances for certain, taking in styles similar to that of 2008-2010 crack-house fused with more modern darkened UK bass sounds. Punks have had a fantastic run of bringing new artists to the forefront of bass music, and that trend appears set to continue into 2018 with fantastic original recordings such as this!

Review: Mano Le Tough's label isn't the most prolific, but 2017 has been a busy one for Maeve and Adam Marshall's Low Poly Nature is its fourth EP. Best known for his releases on his New Kanada label and Mike Shannon's Cynosure, the Canadian's debut for Maeve sees him go down a more melodic route than usual. "Core Dub", with its atmospheric keys and lithe rhythm and the mellow, melancholic "Illusions of House" are exactly the type of tracks that the Maeve owner would play out, while on "House Shipping (Jammed Mix)", Marshall delivers the kind of wiry, lean groove that one would normally associate with Isolee. Despite all of these surprises, "Espics Drop" is the most unconventional track in this release, as a mellow foghorn is fused with snappy breaks.

Review: Last spotted busting some dope moves to Compost's "Brexit Jazz", Athens' 160-splicer LeTryp makes his debut on London's Modern Ruin with more groove-based steppy switch-ups. Highlights can be found in every moment of this juicy juke jam: the Detroitian wave bends and emotion on "Let Me Hit It", the deep dark analogue bubbles and laser-flexing stabs "In The Heat", the soulful shimmers of "Move Operator" and the unabashed euphoria of the title track "Crossover". Time to take tryp...
