Review: Those with an encyclopedic knowledge of house history will tell you that 4th Measure Men was one of a number of alternative aliases used by Mark "MK" Kinchen during the early '90s. In fact, "4 You" was first released way back in 1993. This much-needed digital reissue not only includes a swathe of versions from the original 12" - the rumbling, proto-UK garage vibe of the original mix and Kinchen's own bouncy garage Dub tweak of B-side "Given" included - but also 2011 remixes from 2000 And One (bustling, MK garage-on steroids) and Maya-Jane Coles (woozy '90s garage meets deep and slinky tech-house). There's also what appears to be a fresh 2018 remix from DJ Steaw, who wisely layers even more vintage, basement-bothering garage elements to Kinchen's killer original groove.

Review: Up next for Defected's In The House series is the UK's DJ Haus, 'a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator.' The Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs boss has received big props from the underground house community and in Defected's opinion: he's an ambassador for the future of house music. Quite a compliment there! Serving up a a wicked collection of raw and jacking sounds that encompass electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage: and all very much on the lo-fi tip. The supporting cast on DJ Haus In The Haus is quite a remarkable one and musical highlights are not limited to: NYC hero X-Coast (who is fresh off a killer release on Underthesea) with last year's sleeper hit "Mango Bay", Aussie larrikin and Steel City Dance Discs boss Mall Grab with the wicked "Pool Party" through to stateside jams by Justin Cudmore - who gives us a taste of the acid life on "Forget It" and so does the master Matrixxman on the epic "The Spell" (Original Mix).

Review: One half of Hot Creations Chicago's Lee Foss sure is a rolling stone. Not content with running the label, there's Hot Natured as well as his other project with MK known as Pleasure State and he's now started another label named after his famed White Isle shindig: Repopulate Mars. In the words of the man himself, its mission is "alien funk for the generation that will repopulate Mars"and we couldn't have thought up a more apt description. 4th Measure Men & Sonny Fodera's "Don't Touch Me When I'm Dancing" is going to be anthem on Ibiza this summer with 'that' bassline and it's deep, sexy and overall sleazy vibe that'll make the walls sweat. The deep and boompty tech house of Eskuche & Nu Sky's "Ninety Nine" is reminiscent of the classic Jamie Jones/Freak 'N Chic sound that's made a comeback due to young guns such as Jey Kurmis while Flavio Acaron's "Matters Of The Soul" is indeed quite soulful with its mild Detroit aesthetic, mainly in the funky acid bassline and emotive strings that has great dancefloor impact.
